WMM @oo eo UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
GEORGE H. PARDEE, OF MARSHFIELD, MISSOURI.
SCRAP-CASE.
n SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,316, dated July 26,1887.
Application filed March 29, 1587. Serial No. 282,898. (No model.)
paper, where it is of great advantage to have a general receptacle provided with different compartments for articles on different-subjects, as Religiom Politics Commerce, Science, Educatiom Poetry, Sto.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my case. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section' thereof. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line w x, Fig. 2.
Referring byle'tter to the drawings, A designatesthe body of the case, polygonal in crosssection, having any desired number of sides,
. with the interior space divided int-o compartments B by the partitions C @,disposed on radiating lines from the center of the body to the angles between the said sides.
E E are'drop-doors, one of which is placed in each side of the body at the lower end thereof, the said door being hinged at the lower edge to the bottom of the body and having the llexible side pieces, F, to hold the door when open in an inclined position and prevent the contents of the compartment from falling out, the said position being clearly shown in the figures; The said doors are held in their closed position by the spring-catches G on the upper edges' thereof engaging in the hasps on the side of the body, or by any other suitable means.
H H are narrow slitsformed in the upper end of the body, one of which being at the upper end of each of the'compartments B, and I I are pivoted covers or caps to cover the said slits or openings and adapted to be turned aside when desired to allow the insertion of a scrap or contribution. Although the said pivoted caps are preferable, any other suitable covers may be substituted therefor to close the said slits in the upper end of the body of the case.
compartment, each slit being labeled with n the naine of the kind of article to be placed therein, preferably on the cover or cap, and whenit is desired for any purpose to extract the said scraps or contributions, thelower door, E, is let down, thus enabling the contents of the compartment to be easily reached.
K is a standard passing up through the center of the case in an opening provided therefor, the said standard being secured at the lower end to the base L, comprising the table or plate N andthe legs M thereunder, the said body of the case being adaptedV to rest and rotate on the said plate around the standard K in the center thereof. On the upper end of the said standard K is rigidly secured a support or table, O, a short distance `above the upper end of the body and sufficiently large to support a lamp or any desired article, the same being thus held out of the way of a person using the case.
It will be seen that the case as described is very complete, and will materially facilitate the classification under distinct heads of the different kinds of articles received by the editor of a newspaper, periodical, &c.
The device also is'very simple, and may be very cheaply made, while the unquestionable utility thereof should be sufficient recommendation to secure for it a place in every publishing office.

A case for scraps, articles, Snc., comprising the body A, divided into vertical lcompartments, slits or openings having suitable cov: ers in the upper ends of the said compartments, doors at the lower ends of the said `compartments to open outwardly into inclined positions, and the dexible side pieces secured to the sides of the said doors, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
ends of the said compartments, and the central above the case, substantially as and for the 1o rigid standard, K, on which the said body ropurpose set forth. 1
