PATENTEI] FEB 2197:
INVENTOR SALVAD OR L UNA COMBINATION SUPPORT'AND HOLDER FOR PAINT CAN This invention consists of a single piece of stiff wire, formed to encompass the upper portion of a round paint can, as well as to extend down one side and be formed into a U-shaped member on which the paint can rest when the can has been placed within the confines of the invention. Each outer end of the stiff wire is formed into a horizontally disposed U-shaped member, adapted to be clipped onto one of the upright members of a ladder. The outer portion of the top horizontally disposed U-shaped member is adapted to rest on top of one of the rungs of the ladder, thereby holding the invention in its desired position on the ladder.
It is the principal object of this invention to provide an inexpensive and efficient combination support and holder for a paint can; a device that is formed from a single piece of stiff wire or the like.
Another object of this invention is to provide a combination support and holder for a paint can which can in a few seconds be clipped on either side of any ladder.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a combination support and holder for a paint can that can be configurated to support and hold any size and shape of paint can.
Other objects and advantages reside in both the details of construction and in the detailed configuration of this invention, as will hereinafter be described as the reading of this specification and its appended claims proceeds and the accompanying drawing is examined.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a pictorial view of this invention in actual use.
FIG. 2 is a top view of this invention.
FIG. 3 is a side view of this invention.
FIG. 4 is a front view of this invention.
In the several views of this combination support and holder for paint cans, like reference numbers indicate like parts of the invention throughout the several views of the device shown in the drawing.
The reference number 5 indicates this invention in its entirety.
The invention embodies a single piece of stiff wire that is round in cross section and which is formed into a loop or circle 6 that is slightly larger in diameter than that of the paint can which it supports and holds. The outer portion of the aforesaid stiff piece of wire is formed into the already described loop or circle 6. The outer portion of the looped or circled piece of stiff wire is formed into a horizontally disposed U-shaped clip 7 having square or nearly square corners and parallel sides 8. The outer and upper end of the wire is bent downward at 9 in order to prevent this portion of the device from slipping off the rung of the ladder which is drawn in phantom lines in FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawing.
The inner portion of the stiff piece of wire of the aforesaid loop or circle 6 is bent downward to become the upright 10 that has its lower portion bent or otherwise formed at right angle to the aforesaid upright 10 to become the horizontally disposed U-shaped support 11 of this invention. The outer horizontal portion of the aforesaid support 11 is formed into a U-shaped clip 12 that is under and parallel to the aforesaid clip 7, as one can see by looking at FIG. 1 of the drawing.
It is to be understood by those experienced in the art of forming articles from stiff wire that this invention can be configurated to support and hold any size and shape of a paint can or the like. Only a device for a round paint can is shown in the accompanying drawing.
While this invention had been made for a paint can, it may also be adapted to hold cleaning buckets or carpenters or mechanics tool containers or the like.
I claim:
1. A combination support and holder for cans comprising a stiff piece of wire formed to circumscribe the upper portion of a can as well as to support the bottom of said can while the two ends of the said stiff piece of wire are formed into spaced horizontally disposed clips adapted to be attached onto either of the vertical uprights of a ladder to which it IS desired to secure a can, the said support being U-shaped in configuration and its outer end is formed into a horizontally disposed clip that is adapted to be secured onto one of the vertical uprights of a ladder, the last mentioned clip being substantially parallel to the first mentioned clip.
2. A combination support and holder for paint cans which comprises a stiff piece of wire formed into a circle to encompass the upper portion of a paint can, the outer portion of said circle of stiff wire formed into a horizontally disposed U- shaped clip having substantially square corners and a downwardly turned outer end, a portion of the stiff wire formed into a vertically disposed member whose lower end is formed at substantially right angles thereto to form a support for a paint can, which support is of a U-shaped configuration and has its outer end formed into a second horizontally disposed clip adapted to be secured onto either of the vertical uprights of a ladder, with both clip portions being in substantially parallel relationship.
3. A device as in claim 2, wherein portions of the support member and clip members are disposed in substantially parallel relationship.

Claims (3)

2. A combination support and holder for paint cans which comprises a stiff piece of wire formed into a circle to encompass the upper portion of a paint can, the outer portion of said circle of stiff wire formed into a horizontally disposed U-shaped clip having substantially square corners and a downwardly turned outer end, a portion of the stiff wire formed into a vertically disposed member whose lower end is formed at substantially right angles thereto to form a support for a paint can, which support is of a U-shaped configuration and has its outer end formed into a second horizontally disposed clip adapted to be secured onto either of the vertical uprights of a ladder, with both clip portions being in substantially parallel relationship.
3. A device as in claim 2, wherein portions of the support member and clip members are disposed in substantially parallel relationship.
