Coleman Attorney-Ernest G. Montague ABSTRACT: A dispenser comprising a resilient outer container including a yieldable jacket, a compressable exchangeable container adapted to hold a predetermined amount of a cosmetic preparation therein positioned in the outer container, adjacent the compressible jacket, and the jacket including a bottom portion having a bottom opening including screw threads adjacent thereto, the exchangeable cartridge adapted to be inserted and removed, respectively, through the bottom opening. A screw threaded bottom member is removably screwed into the bottom opening and includes a yieldable support part on which the exchangeable container is supported, and the support part comprises a long cylindrical neck resiliently pressing the exchangeable container against the jacket.
Fig. 2
DISPENSER FOR DISPENSING A PREDETERMINED QUALITY OF A COSMETIC PREPARATION BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a dispenser for dispensing a predetermined quantity of a cosmetic preparation.
Synthetic-plastic containers holding a portion of a hair preparation, for example, are known in the prior art. These very cheap containers, which are opened by cutting or tearing off the cap, or closure, and are discarded after being emptied, have the disadvantage that they are extremely unpleasant looking; and for this reason beauty parlors, and similar establishments, are reluctant to show them to their customers. These establishments prefer to use crystal decanters, which must be continuallyrefilled, since they are too expensive to discard. But it takes time to refill the decanters, which therefore are disliked by the establishment owners.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide a cosmetic dispenser which combines the advantages of known dispensers, while avoiding their disadvantages.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a dispenser having a replaceable, discardable refill container housed within a hollow holder.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIG. 2 is a side elevational view of a refill container suitable for the holder illustrated in FIG. 1.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to the drawings and more'particularly to FIG. 1, the dispenser for a hair preparation comprises an attractive outer holder 1 and an exchangeable refill container 2 fitting in the holder. The refill container is a known conically-shaped, synthetic-plastic receptacle containing a portion of hair shampoo. To empty the refill container of its contents, the container cap 3 is cut off and the sides of the container are squeezed. Since the container 2 is not attractive, it is held concealed in the holder 1 until emptied, as illustrated in dot-dash line in FIG. 1.
The outer holderl comprises a slightly conically-shaped body or jacket 4 made of a suitable, elastically flexible synthetic plastic, such as a highor low-pressure polyethylene, a polypropylene, a copolymer, or some other flexible or rubberlike material. The inner surfaceat the lower end of the body 4 is provided with threads 5, into which is screwed a bottom member 7 having mating threads 6. The bottom member embodies a support part comprising a centrally disposed, vertical cylindrical projection or neck 8 that supports the refill container 2. The upper part of the holder body 4 is formed with a radially inwardly extending shoulder 9. A container 2 is inserted into the holder 1 through the lower end thereof, and
thereafter, the bottom member 7 is screwed into place, and a narrow annular section of the upper part of the wall of the container 2 is pressed against the inwardly directed shoulder 9, as shown in FIG. 1. The upward pressure of the bottom member 7 causes the latter and the bottom of the container 2 v .When the container 2 is to be emptied, the cap 10 is screwed off, the cap 3 cut off, and the flexible holder body 4 is squeezed. Afterwards, the empty container 2 is removed and discarded, and a fresh refill container is loaded into the holder 1. The jacket 4 has a bottom portion 12 which is substantially cylindrical to provide the interior screw threads 13 which engage with the screw threads 5 of the cylindrical bottom member 7. However, the bottom portion is slightly of convex shape, pressing inwardly at its lowermost portion 16 against the lowermost portion of the bottom member 7. The bottom member 7 includes an outer cylindrical portion 14 having the outer screw threads 5 therein and a circular disc 15 thereof is connected to and adjacent the lowermost portion 16 of the outer cylindrical portion 14. The cylindrical neck 8 extends vertically upwardly from the center of the circular disc 15. The bottom member 7 further includes a central downwardly projecting extension 17 depending from the lower side of the circular disc 15 as well as a frustoconical leg 18 extending downwardly from the periphery of the disc 15 and widening in the downward direction. The diameter of the cylindrical neck 8 is substantially smaller than its length, and is substantially smaller than the diameter of the outer cylindrical portion 14 of the bottom member 7.
Even though it is necessary to replace only the very inexpensive refill container 2, the container is always housed, and ready for use, in an attractive holder. This is particularly advantageous for hairdressers, and similar establishments, which have a fastidious clientele. The holder is advantageously decorated with designs in color or with suitable lettering of a pleasing appearance.
It will be understood by those in the art that the present invention is useful as a dispenser for all fluid cosmetic preparations that can be dispensed from a container by squeezing the sides thereof.
I claim:
1. A dispenser, for dispensing a predetermined amount of a cosmetic preparation, comprising: 7
an outer container made of an elastic yielding synthetic material and including an elastic yielding compressible, jacket;
an exchangeable container adapted to hold a predetermined amount of a cosmetic preparation therein and made of a flexible plastic material, and removably positioned inside said outer container, adjacent said compressible jacket;
said exchangeable container including means for providing a dispensing opening through which said cosmetic preparation is to be dispensed;
said compressible jacket for being compressed, squeezing said exchangeable container, thereby forcing said cosmetic preparation through said dispensing opening;
said jacket including a bottom portion having av bottom opening including screw threads adjacent thereto;
said exchangeable cartridge adapted to be inserted and removed, respectively, through said bottom opening;
a screw threaded bottom memberrem ovably screwed into said bottom opening and including a yieldable support part on which said exchangeable container is supported;
said support part comprising a long cylindrical neck resiliently pressing said exchangeable container against said jacket thereby providing a shake proof holding of said exchangeable cartridge in said outer container;
said bottom portion of said jacket is substantially cylindrical and cooperatively with said screw threaded bottom member is rigid in the axial direction;
said cylindrical neck of said bottom member is axially;
yieldable;
said bottom member includes an outer cylindrical portion having outer screw threads thereon and a circular disc said outer cylindrical portion;
said cylindrical neck extends vertically upwardly from the 7 center of said circular disc;
lowermost portion against the lowermost portion of said frustoconical leg; and
the diameter of said cylindrical neck is substantially smaller than the length thereof as well as substantially smaller than the diameter of said outer cylindrical portion of said bottom member.
