Description

Nov. 26, 1968 w. J. FAso PERFUME CONTAINER AND SPRAYER Filed March '7, 1967 INVENTOR. WIlUam J. Faso United States Patent 3,412,907 PERFUME CONTAINER AND SPRAYER William J. Faso, 602 SE. 6th Ave., Deerfield Beach, Fla. 33441 Filed Mar. 7, 1967, Ser. No. 621,328 4 Claims. (Cl. 222-187) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A container for a fluid perfume, cologne or other liquid, the container consisting of a disk-shaped, relatively flat hollow body having flexible side walls which can be compressed between the fingers. The body contains a perfume-saturated absorbent packing and one of the walls is formed with a depressed central opening through which the fragrance of the perfume can emerge. A mesh insert is disposed between said opening and the packing and a spray outlet is formed in one of the walls preferably but not necessarily, near the peripheral edge of the container and through which the perfume can be sprayed by compression of the absorbent material or packing through pressure imposed on the walls of the container by the fingers.
This invention relates to a small and compact diskshaped container for holding cologne, perfume or any other fragrant liquid, and has particular reference to a device that can be worn on the person of an individual or placed in a drawer, jewel box, pocket or pocket book or elsewhere and will distribute its fragrance, and which will when desired, permit of the spraying of its contents.
In the accompanying drawing, wherein an illustrative embodiment of the invention is disclosed:
FIG. 1 is a face view of a perfume holder or container constructed in accordance with the invention and with a portion broken away to disclose construction;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view, taken substantially on the line 22 of FIG. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows;
FIG. 3 is a rear view of the container, with a portion broken away;
FIG. 4 shows how the holder is compressed in order to spray its contents; and
FIG. 5 shows one way in which the two halves of the body of the container can be united with an interfitting or snap engagement.
Referring to the drawing, it will be noted therefrom that the container has a body composed of a pair of similar disk-shaped, concavo-convex halves, indicated respectively at 1 and 2. These halves are united around their meeting peripheral edges by being adhesively joined thereat to produce a circumferential joint as shown in FIG. 2, or by the overlap of their marginal edges 9 and 10 as shown in FIG. 5, or by other suitable joinder.
The two halves 1 and 2 are preferably, but not necessarily, composed of a suitable plastic material of flexible nature. When the two halves are united at their edges as above described they form a relatively shallow or fiat hollow disk. The halves or either of them may be facially decorated or ornamented in any desired manner.
One of the lhalves, or that shown at 1, is provided with a central opening 4 surrounded by an annular raised rib 5, thus maintaining the opening depressed. As an alternative, the opening 4 might be reinforced by a metallic grommet. One of the halves, or that shown at 2, is formed with a spray outlet, preferably but not necessarily located near the peripheral edge of the body of the container.
Contained within the body is an absorbent filling or packing 6 which may be composed of a number of layers of felt, cotton or some similar absorbent material and which fills the interior of the container. Also contained within the body is a piece of foraminous material 7 such as a wire cloth and which is situated behind the central opening 4 and located between the inner surface of the body half 1 and the face of the packing 6.
The container or holder may be made small and compact and thus may be used as a locket, pendant or similar ornament by being suspended from a chain or ribbon extended through an eyelet or loop member 3 provided on the body of the container as shown. The device, if made in miniature, might also \serve as an earring pendant.
When the packing or filling 6 is saturated or impregnated with a liquid perfume, the scent or aroma therefrom can emerge through the central opening 4. The annular rib 5, or a grommet arranged around the opening 4 will protect the clothing of the wearer from coming into contact with the packing or the perfume which saturates it, and the foraminous piece 7 acts as :a diffusing medium.
When it is desired to spray the contents of the container, the container is grasped between the thumb and fore finger substantially as shown in FIG. 4, with the thumb fitting over and closing the central opening 4. When the container is compressed between the fingers the thumb will rest against the rib S, which then serves as a seat for the thumb, and the thumb will then close the opening 4, and the air compressed within the container will expel the perfume out through the spray opening 8, the liquid perfume will be sprayed out of the aperture 8 as in FIG. 4. The flexibility of the two container halves 1 and 2 is such that they can be easily flexed in wardly under finger pressure so that the saturated packing 6 will be compressed and some of the perfume will accordingly be expressed through the spray opening 8.
The perfume or other fragrant liquid can be delivered to the packing 6 through the central opening 4 and replenished when exhausted or when its fragrance is diminished, or it can be applied to the packing by the separation of the two halves 1 and 2, particularly when the halves are held together by the interfitting or snap action as shown in FIG. 5.
It will be apparent that the container may be made in various shapes and sizes and suitably ornamented. The spray outlet can be located other than where illustrated and other changes may be made as comprehended by the spirit of the invention and within the scope of the claims appended thereto.
What I claim is:
1. A perfume container consisting of a pair of concavo-convex, self-sustaining disks connected together to provide a space between them for storing a liquid perfume, an absorbent material contained in said space and saturated by the perfume, one of the disks having a central depressed opening for the emission of aroma from the perfume, said opening permitting filling of the space between the disks by the passage of the liquid perfume through it, the opening being of a size to enable it to be closed by a finger engaged in compressing the container, the container having a spray hole through which the perfume is ejected by the compression of the container between the fingers.
2. A perfume container according to claim 1, wherein the disks have their concave faces directed toward one another, the disks being composed of a flexible material causing them to resume their concavo-concave shape after they have been flattened by compression between the fingers, the central depressed opening being surrounded by a raised annular rib to prevent the absorbent material from contacting clothing, and mesh material contained in the container behind the opening to prevent the absorbent material from protruding through said opening.
3. A perfume container according to claim 2, wherein the raised rib is of a size to constitute a finger rest for a finger covering and closing the opening while the container is being compressed by the fingers to eject perfume -fnom it.
4. A perfume container comprising, a plastic body having opposing walls composed of two normally dished concavo-oonvex disks of flexible nature connected at their marginal edges and capable of being pressed toward one another by pressure between the fingers, the nature of the disks being such that said disks assume their normal concave-convex shape upon the relief of the finger pressure upon them and solely by the flexible nature of the material of the disks. a packing of soft, absorbent material saturated with a fluid perfume and contained within the body, at least one of the walls having a central depressed opening, a sheet of mesh material located within the body between the opening and the perfume-saturated absorbent material, one of the walls of the body being provided with a spray opening through which the perfume is ejected upon the compression of the absorbent material through finger pressure imposed on the flexible Walls of the body, the central depressed opening being in a position so that it will be closed by one of the fingers when the container is grasped between the fingers and is squeezed to expel perfume through the spray opening.
