Description

Nov. 18, 1969 A. v. M BRIDE LAMP UNIT MOUNTING RECEPTACLE Filed May 12, 1967 INVENTOR. ANTHONY V. MC BRIDE ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,479,636 LAMP UNIT MOUNTING RECEPTACLE Anthony V. McBride, East Northport, N.Y. Emil C. Herrmann, 158 3rd St., Mineola, N.Y. 11501) Filed May 12, 1967, Ser. No. 637,983 Int. Cl. H0211 1/02; H01r 33/08; A47h 1/10 US. Cl. 339-125 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of holding electric light bulb sockets such as Christmas lights which can be readily insertedand removed without the removal of the mounting fixture, such fixture being comprised of a base and a partially walled cylinder afiixed or made a part of such base to receive the light socket, with a slot through the cylindrical portion of the fixture to receive the electrical wiring.
The present invention relates to a lamp unit mounting receptacle for the purpose of holding either individual or multi-light strings, such as the type employing decorative 0r miniature light bulbs used for Christmas tree lamps or commercial displays. Presently, when using such lights for outdoor house decorations during the Christ mas season or holiday affairs, it is necessary to afiix the lights to the buildings or posts by some sort of permanent fastening, such as a staple. The present invention provides for permanently fixing a receptacle in which the light bulb socket can be easily inserted and removed.
The invention consists of a single unit, a receptacle holder made of any of various materials, but preferably an insulating plastic, such as polyethylene, bakelite or phenolic. This single unit receptacle or holder is cylindrical in shape with a partial cutout for ease in receiving the light bulb socket and the wiring attached thereto. The portion remaining after the cutouts is more than half the circumference and the upper portion may be made either thicker or be depressed, so as to better secure the light socket when it is put in place. The receptacle may be mounted in position either permanently or temporarily or by means of adhesive, a screw or similar device.
An object of the invention is to provide a light socket receptacle which can be fastened in a stationary position on a building, post, display board or other place that will permit electric lights to be aflixed temporarily in such receptacles in such a way that they may be readily removed and replaced at will.
This and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be fully apparent from the following de- Patented Nov. 18, 1969 scription, when taken in conjunction with the annexed drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 shows a top view of the invention with the light socket and lamp fixed in place;
FIGURE 2 shows a back view of the invention;
FIGURE 3 shows a perspective view of the invention with light socket and lamp removed; and
FIGURE 4 shows a perspective view of the invention mounted on a backboard with light socket and lamps fixed in place.
Referring to the drawings, the invention is therein illustrated as a single lamp unit mounting receptacle in which:
(1) is the entire unit,
(2) is the edge of the slotted portion of the unit which provided access for the light socket,
(3) is the light socket,
(4) is the electrical wiring attached to the light socket,
(5) is the lamp shown secured in the socket,
(6) is a hole for mounting the receptacle by means of a screw or other device,
(7) is a mounting board,
(8) is a cutout to secure and provide a seat for electrical wiring.
What is claimed is:
1. A light socket mounting receptacle or fixture comprising a round base, an integrally formed turbular or cylindrically walled extension thereto partially and more than one-half way around the circumference of the base, having a slot in such Walled cylinder extending below the center thereof at right angles to its length and parallel with the base and parallel with the exposed edges of the partial wall to receive a light bulb socket together with the electrical wiring attached.
