Be it known that I, WALTER F. Towns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented. a new and useful Device for Beating and Mixing Egg-Lemonade, (for which I have not obtained a patent in any country,) of which the following is a specification. I

The object of my invention is to provide a tumbler having an open screen or partition placed therein between the bottom and top thereof, for the purpose of quickly and thoroughlybeating up and mixing an egg with bler.

The nature of my invention will be understood from the description which follows.

In the accompanyingdrawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view illustrating my invention; Fig. 2, a vertical section through the line 00 a2, Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a perspective view of the open screen or partition, and Fig. 4 shows another construction of said screen.

A is atumbler, made of metal or other suitable material, and having its sides contracting suddenly to form an annular internal shoulder or support, a, for the screen B,which rests thereon.

The screen B, as shown in Fig. 3, is made of a disk of metal provided with slots b. In forming these slots the metal cut away is not removed from the disk, but is formed into vertical flanges 0, extending above the surface of said screen, and 0, extending below the same. Said screen has its sides provided with the notches or recesses c, which permit the same to be passed over the internal projections or lugs, d, of the tumbler A.

The mode of operation is as follows: The screen B, constructed substantially as described, is passed into the tumbler A, the notches e permitting said screen to pass over and below the internal projections, d, of said tumbler, and thus to find a bearing on the annular support a. The screen is now turned somewhat on a vertical axis, and thus locked liquid are now placed in the tumbler.

The contents are shaken up, and the cohesion of the egg and its stringiness are quickly and thoroughly overcome by being cut up on the edges of the flanges cc, and being thrust back and forth through the slots 7) of the screen B. In short, a few shakes are sufficient to cut up and beat the egg thoroughly and mix it with the lemonadeor other liquid, thus making a perfectly smooth beverage, whereas by the ordinary method of mixing the egg is rarely deprived entirely of its ropiness, even by a good deal of shaking.

Fig. 4 shows a simple method of constructing the screen B, which in this case consists of a ring or rim, h, provided with wires 0', attached thereto as shown. These wires may run parallel to each other, as shown in the figure, or be arranged at right or other angles to each other, in the form of a sieve, orin any suitable manner adapted to cut up the egg forced through or between them.

I do not herein claim, in an egg beater, a screen consisting, essentially, of a tubular ring with inclined slats or bars as wide as the length of said tube inserted therein, as that is not my invention.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The screen B, struck from a single piece ofmetal, and provided with the slots b and the flanges c c, said flanges projecting, respectively, above and below the general surface of said screen, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The screen B, provided with slots and flanges, as set forth, and having its external edge provided with notches 6, formed by cutting away a portion of the disk composing said screen, substantially as and for the purpose described.

3. The tumbler provided with the annular shoulder a, formed by expanding the upper portion of said tumbler, and the internal locking-projections, d,above said annular shoulder, substantially as and for the purpose described.
