HENRY NADORFF, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
HAM E-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,409, dated December 15, 1885.
Application filed October 27, 1855. Serial No. 181,065. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern Be it known that LHENRY NADOREF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame-Fasteners; and IV do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Thisinvention has relation to improvements in hame-fasteners; and it consists in the peculiar construction, novel arrangement, and adaptation of devices as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a representation of a perspective view of the device in an inverted position, and Fig. 2 is a view of one of the sectionsdisengaged.
Referring by letter to the said drawings, A'
indicates a box-section of theV fastener, which is preferably cast with integral sides, top', and bottom in a longitudinally-curvilinear form. The top plate, a, terminates at one end in a downwardly and inwardly turned hook, B, and the sides C are beveled at this end, as shown at D, to facilitate the engagement of the said hook with 011e of the llames, and the opposite end of this top portion or plate is slightly extended at its opposite end beyond the ends of the sides, as shown, to afford the ready attachment of one end of a dat spring, E. The sides F of this section are cut away longitudinally from a central point to one end beneath the top plate to form a slot, G, and the upper edges are provided with vertical teeth for a purpose that will be presently explained, and the under side of this section is provided with a longitudinal slot, H. The section L is provided at its outer end with a hook similar to that on the section A, and its longitudinal portion is designed to lnove Within the side walls of the said section A, as shown, with the flat spring E bearing againstits upper side, near its inner end. This section L is provided at its inner end with a short downwardly-extending arm, b, which is designed to pass out through the slot in the under side u of the section A, and is also provided nearits inner end with opposite lateral lugs dd, which are designed to engage the teeth ein the opposite vertical walls of the section A.
In operation it will be seen that when pressure is exerted by the thumb or fingers upon the end of the short arm b the lug projections of the section L will be cleared from engagement with the teeth, and when the respective sections have been drawn apart or moved together, as desired, the said lugs may again be brought in engagement with the teeth by simply removing the pressure from the arm b, allowing the spring to act upon the section L.
Having described this invention, what I claim isf As an improved article of manufacture, the hame-fastener herein described, consisting of the section A, having its under wall longitudinally slotted, its upper wall extended at one end for attachmentof the spring and provided at its opposite end with a hook, and its side walls cut away longitudinally at their upper edges and provided with the teeth, and the section L, provided at its outer end with a hook, its inner end having a downward branch passing through the slot in the underside of the section A, and lateral lugs to engage the teeth of the said section, substantially as specied.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY NADORFF.
Vitnesses:
JOHN BECK, VINZENZ SCHMITT.
