BILLIARD-CUE CLAMP.

.To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN CALLAHAN, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain newand useful Improvementsin Billiard- Cue Clamps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to the repairing of billiard-cues; and it consists in a device for holding the tip iirmly to the end of the cue while the glue which cements them is drying, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of my tip-clamp in use, and Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views thereof.

A is an ordinary billiard-cue, and B tlietip thereof.

C is the hollow shank or sleeve of my clamp, through which the cue is passed, and D is the loop, preferably a strip of elastic steel, though it may be of leather or other material, secured tothe outside of said shank.

E is the set-screw, and F the protectingstrip, of leather or other fiexible material.

When atip is to be fastened to the end of a cue,it is iirst stuck on with glue, and then the end of the cue bearing the t-ip is pushed through the hollow shank C till it touches the top ofthe loop D, as shown in Fig. 2, and then the said socket is pulled downward as far as the elasticity of the loop will permit, and secured to the cue at this point by means ofthe set-screw E; and to prevent the end ofthe set-screw from entering the wood of the cue or defacing or injuring it in any way theproteoting-strip F, of leather or any other suitable material, is interposed, and is crowded against the cue by the screw, effectual] y guarding it against the possibility of damage from the Said set-screw. When the glue is dry, and the tip thereby firmly secured to place, the screw E can be loosened and the Clamp readily removed.

I am aware that a billiard-cue clamp has been employed consisting of aframe com posed lof centrally-perforated end plates united by convergingV rods or braces, the upper end plate having a spring-cap fitted thereto and sliding rubberfaced wedges adapted to be secured to said rods or liraces,for the purpose of retaining the cue in place. claim to such construction; but,

Having thus described myinvention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a device for holding a tip against the top of a billiard-cue in the operation of gluing, the combination of a hollow shank for receiving the cue, a ileXiblest-rap forminga loop to'limit its movement therein, and means for securing the holder to the cue, substantially as set forth. f

2. Ina device for holding a tip against the top ofa billiard-cue in the operation of gluing, the combination of a hollow shank for the admission of the one, a flexible strap forming a loop to limit its movement therein, a setscrew for securing the holder to the cue, and a strip of ilexi'ule material interposed between the screw and cue, to prevent injury to the latter, substantiall y as set forth.
