Description

(No Model.)
A. L. PRITOHETT.
BRUSH OR BROOM SUPPORT,
No. 323,827. Patented Aug. 4, 1885. v
INVENTOR Y Q ATTORNEYS u, Pains. mmuimm har NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BRUSH OR BROOM SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0.323,82'7, dated August 4, 1885.
Application filed January 5, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANDREW L. PRITOHEIT,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Maryville, in the county of Nodaway and 5 State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brush or Broom Supports; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. 15 Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of broom-holder empty. Fig. 3 is arepresentation of broom-holder with broom inserted. Fig. 2 is a representation of broom-holder with broom partially inserted.
This invention has relation to broom-holders; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, all as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the broom-holder, in whichthe brush portion of the broom is placed, the broom being in inverted position and the handle hanging downward. This broomo holder is designed to be made of sheet-metal usually; and it consists of a receptacle having a front wall, B, parallel to its back wall, 0, and its sides gradually flaring from the lower opening, E, to near the upper or broad open- 3 5 ing, F, where they curve inward, as indicated (No model.)
at G. The upper and lower openings are connected by a vertical passage, H, which is of sufficient diameter between its edges I I to permit the broom-handle to beintroduced. When the handle of the broom held in inverted position is introduced into the cavity of the holder, it is drawn downward, and the brush portion entering the holder is also drawn downward, so that the straws are compressed toward each other, and at the brushing-edge, where they are liable to be spread outward in an irregular manner by use, the ends of the straws are, by the incurved portions G of the holder, forcibly pressed inward, so that their outward curvature is corrected by forcible bending in the opposite direction. In this manner it is designed to preserve the brushing-edge in good form, so that it will not wear so rapidly as when the straw-fibers are allowed to retain their end curvature.
Z is a projection of the back wall, having a perforation, V, whereby the holder may be hung upon a nail or peg attached to the wall.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The flaring slotted broom-holder having the side walls incurved at their upper portions, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature 65 in presence of two witnesses.
ANDREW L. PRITUHETT.
