(Ci. 229-27) This invention relates to a one-piece partitioned packing box, and has particular utility in packaging vegetables and fruits, and, more specifically, tomatoes.
A primary object of this invention is the provision of an improved box construction adapted for the packaging of such vegetables as tomatoes, which may be simply and expeditiously formed from a single stamped blank, the blank being folded to provide a compartmented box having an integral central partition.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a unitary box structure formed from a single blank which is adequately reinforced at those points of greatest stress, particularly the bottom and ends thereof.
Still another object of the invent-ion is the provision of a box of this character which is sturdy and durable in construction, which affords adequate protection to the relatively soft contents thereof, which may be quickly and inexpensively manufactured and assembled, and which may be readily stacked, stored and transported.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed ont as the description of the invention proceeds, and shown in the accompanying drawing wherein there is shown `a preferred embodiment of this inventive concept.

`Referring to the drawings and particularly to FIGURE l, there is generally indicated at a blank from which the box of the instant invention is assembled, and which `comprises an outer bottom section 11 of a size commensurate with the over-all extent of the bottom of the box. Side wall portions 12 and 13 are separated from the outer `bottom portion by fold lines `14- and 15 respectively. Connected to the side wall 12 are outer end wall portions 16 and 17, fold lines 18 and 19 being provided for the proper formation of the box. The opposite side wall 13 is separated from the en-ds thereof by fold lines 20 and 21 and inner end wall portions 22 and 23, while extending inwardly from each inner end wall portion and separated therefrom by fold lines 24 and 25, are inner bott-om portions 26 and 27. The inner bottom portions have extending from the side thereof opposite the inner end walls central partition portions 28 and 29, fold lines 30 and 31 being provided between the partition portions and the inner bottom portions.
The inner bottom portions and the partitions lie adjacent the ends of the outer bottom portion when the blank is formed, and are separated therefrom by severance lines 32 and 33, which are slightly offset outwardly from fold lines 18 and 20 and 19 and 21. Fold lines 18 and are `longitudinally aligned with each other, as are fold lines 19 and 21. Severance lines 34 and 34 separate the sides of partition portions 28 and 29 opposite the fold lines 30 and 31 from the immediately adjacent outer end walls 16 and 17.
Inner end walls 22 and 23 are provided with hand hold openings 35 and 36 respectively, and outer end walls `16 and 17 are provided with similar hand holds 37 and 38 which are adapted when the box is in assembled relation, in a manner to be described more fully herein-after, to be aligned with hand holds 35 and 36. Outer end walls 16 and 17 are also provided with finger openings 39 and 4@ respectively, while side walls 12 and 13 have Ventilating openings 41 and 42 extending therethrough, which may be also employed as linger openings if desired.
The blanks may be stamped from heavy cardboard or other desired material in a single opera-tion if desired. In the assembly of the device as shown in FIGURE 2, side wall 13 is first folded upwardly along fold line 15, and inner end walls 22 and 23 are folded inwardly relative thereto so that inner bottom portions 27 and 26 overlie outer bottom portion `11. Simultaneously, partition portions 28 and 29 are folded upwardly along their respective fold lines 30 and 31 to provide a central transverse partition which extends across the center line of the side walls. Subsequently, opposite side wall 12 is yfolded upwardly along its fold line 14 as shown in FIG- URE 3, and outer end wall portions 16 and 17 are folded inwardly over inner end walls 22 and 23 to form a completed box as shown in FIGURE 4. A suitable cover may be provided, as indicated in dotted lines in FIGURE 4 at 45.
Preferably, the container is so dimensioned that its width is approximately equal to the sum of one-half the length plus the height, `or the length should be twice the difference of the width minus the height. With these dimensions, the accurate lit of the components is assured.
The contacting parts, such as the central partitions `28 and 29 and -outer end wall portions 16 and 17, may be secured in related assembly in any desired manner, as for example by suitable adhesive, or alternatively, by machine stapling.
The folding assembly may be done manually in small installations, or completely achieved by suitable machine ope-rations in larger installations, such mach-ines forming no part of the instant invention.
From the foregoing, it will now be seen that there is herein provided a packing box which accomplishes all of the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.
What is claimed is:
1. A one-piece box having a central transverse partition formed from a single blank comprising an outside bottom section, iirst and second side sections foldably Aconnected to opposite sides of said outside bottom section along fold lines between said side sections and said outside bottom section, inside end sections foldably connected to opposite ends of said first side section along fold lines between the inside end sections and the first side section, inside bottom sections foldably connected to the sides of said inside end sections along fold lines between said inside bottom and said inside end sections adjacent the fold line connecting the first side section with the outside bottom section and lying adjacent the ends of the outside bottom section, partition sections foldably connected to the sides of said inside bottom sections opposite the inside end sections along fold .lines between the partition sections and the inside bottom sections,
severance lines being provided between the inner edges of the pa-rtition 'sections and inside bottom sections adjacent the edges of the outside bottom section, said partition `sections extending parallel to said end walls in abutting relation centrally of the box, outside end sections extending from the ends of the second side section and fold lines between the outside end sections and the second side section, land there being severance lines ybetween the adjacent outside end sections and the partition sections.
2. The structure of claim 1 wherein Ithe width of the side sections, inside and outside end sections, and partition sections are all substantially equal so as to provide a box of uniform height when the blank is folded.
3. The structure of claim 1 wherein the width of the outside bottom section and hence the box is approximately equal to the sum of one-half the length of the outside bottom section plus the height 0f the side walls and hence the height of the box.
4. The structure of claim 1 wherein the inside and outside walls have finger openings therethrough so positioned as to be aligned when the box is folded.

A ONE-PIECE BOX HAVING A CENTRAL TRANSVERSE PARTITION FORMED FROM A SINGLE BLANK COMPRISING AN OUTSIDE BOTTOM SECTION, FIRST AND SECOND SIDE SECTIONS FOLDABLY CONNECTED TO OPPOSITE SIDES OF SAID OUTSIDE BOTTOM SECTION ALONG FOLD LINES BETWEEN SAID SIDE SECTIONS AND SAID OUTSIDE BOTTOM SECTION, INSIDE END SECTIONS FOLDABLY CONNECTED TO OPPOSITE ENDS OF SAID FIRST SIDE SECTION ALONG FOLD LINES BETWEEN THE INSIDE END SECTIONS AND THE FIRST SIDE SECTION, INSIDE BOTTOM SECTIONS FOLDABLY CONNECTED TO THE SIDES OF SAID INSIDE END SECTIONS ALONG FOLD LINES BETWEEN SAID INSIDE BOTTOM AND SAID INSIDE END SECTIONS ADJACENT THE FOLD LINE CONNECTING THE FIRST SIDE SECTION WITH THE OUTSIDE BOTTOM SECTION AND LYING ADJACENT THE ENDS OF THE OUTSIDE BOTTOM SECTION, PARTITION SECTIONS FOLDABLY CONNECTED TO THE SIDES OF SAID INSIDE BOTTOM SECTIONS OPPOSITE THE INSIDE END SECTIONS ALONG FOLD LINES BETWEEN THE PARTITION SECTIONS AND THE INSIDE BOTTOM SECTIONS,
