F. GADWALLADBR.
HANGER FOR SHAPTING, PI'PBS, 50. No. 325,051. Patented Aug. 25, 1885.
wsTN'EssEs UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK CADVALLADEB, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENXSYLVANIA.
HANGER FOR SHAFTING, PIPES, 86C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 325,051, dated August 25, 1885.
Application filed May Q1, 1985. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, t may concern:
Beit known that I, FRANK CADWALLADER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county ofV Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have inventedv a new and useful Improvementin Hangers for Shafting, Pipes, 'ic., which improvement is fully set forth in the following` specification and ac companying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a hanger embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a partial side elevation and a partial vertical section thereof. Fig. 3 represents a horizontal section in lire x ir, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of a hanger which admits the ready application and removal of a shaft, pipe, &c., to and from the same, as will be hereinafter set forth.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a hanger rod or bar, which is secured to a beam, ceiling,or other suitable pla-ce of service, and has formed with or secured to its lower end a head, B.
C represents a yoke, which is formed of parts or sections C' Cz of different lengths, pivoted together` and has at its upper end a collar, D, which is also formed of sections D D2, which are respectively attached to the sections C' C2, the section D being adapted to enter the section DZ, preserving the continuity of the yoke.
E represents a sleeve, which is iitted over the collar and serves to bind the sections thereof, preventing` separation oi' the sections ot' the yoke.
The section C of the yoke is opened or separated, and the section of the collar fitted to the lower end of the rod. Tile shailing, pipe, &c., may now be located on the lower part ot' the section C2 ofthe yoke, after which the section C' is closed and the sleeve E lowered, thus coupling the sections of the yoke and retaining the yoke on the head B, and preventing opening of the same, as well as disconnection of the yoke from the rod or bar A, the shafting, pipe, &c., thus being reliably sustained.
By raising the sleeve E the section C may be opened and the shafting, &c., removed from the section C2 through the space occasioned by the open section without displacing the yoke from the rod or bar A.
The inner face of the section D' of the col lar is adapted to abut primarily against the head B, so that the sleeve E will draw said section tightly over said head, and thus iirml y clamp the collar to the rod or bar A.
The yoke may be readily removed from the rod or bar A by raising the sleeve E and opening the section C of said yoke, thus leaving the other section, C2, free to be disconnected from said rod or bar.
The head B has a squared portion, B', whereby it may be screwed to the rod or bar A, which, as is evident, may be tubular. The side of said head is convex and supports the shoulder` D of the yoke, the interior ot' the yoke acting as a socket to receive the head B and lower portions ot' the hanger. The top opening ofthe collar D is flaring, the widest end being above, thus providing the hangers and yoke with a ball-and-socket ljoint, which permits the yoke to roll on the head for adjustments or positions requiring` the saine.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The sectional yoke C, having sectional collar D, the latter composed of the parts D' D2, respectively connected with the sections of the said yoke, in combination with the hanger A, having a head, B, and the loose sleeve, E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The hanger A, having the head B, with a convex side, in combination with the yoke (l, havinga collar, D, and sleeve E mounted on said bar, the said yoke C having a shoulder, D, andthe collar D having a flaring' opening, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
A sectional yoke provided with a sectional collar and a coupling-sleeve, in combination with a hanger rod or bar having a head, to which the yoke is clamped and by which it is sustained, substantially as described.
el. A yoke supported on a hanger by means of a ball-andsocket joint, formed by a convex head, B, on the hanger, a shoulder, D3, of the yoke, and a collar, D, having a flaring opening, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
FRANK CADVALL ADER.
