AWNING-FRAM E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 312,898, dated February 24:, 1885.
Application filed October 22, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES READ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Middletown, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Awning-Frames, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel, economical, and efficient frame-support for awnings; and to-such ends the invention consists in a slide provided with lugs carrying a pivot-pin forming the fulcrum for one of the side bars of an awning, said slide being also provided with an extra or supplemental lug having a hole or opening to admit the end of the fulcrum-pin, whereby space is furnished for the inner edge of the side wing of the awning, and the side wing can be connected to the awning-frame by providing it with asuitable hole through which the ful crurn-pin is passed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical section of an awning. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the slide and one of the side bars of the awning-frame on a larger scale than the previous figure. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the same in the plane w m, Fig. 2.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
In these drawings, the letter A designates the slide, which moves up and down on the guide'bar B, secured to one side of the window-frame. C is one of the side bars of the awning-frame, and D is one of the sidewings of the awning. The slide is provided with two lugs, a b, to admit the end of the side bar, C, and with an extra lug, c, to form room for the inner edge of the side wing, D. The pin d extends through the lugs a b 0, through an eye, 6, formed in the inner end of the side bar, 0, and through a hole, f, in theside wing, as shown in Fig. 3. The edge'of the holef is by preference protected by an eyelet, so that it is not liable to tear out.
Heretofore the slide A has been provided with two lugs only, and the inner edge of the side wing had to be secured to the side bar, C, by a cord. This fastening requires time in putting up the awning, and it is liable to work loose in a comparatively short time. By providing the slide A with the extra lug c, I am enabled to connect the side wing, D, to the awning-frame by means of the fulcrumpin (1, and thereby a safe and durable conneetion is obtained; and, furthermore, the inner edge of the side wing is brought closer to the window-frame than it can be by the old mode of fastening.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The slide A, perforated, as shown and described, provided with the lugs a b, the fulcrunrpin d in said lugs, and the extra lug 0, having an opening to admit the end of the fulcrumpin, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES READ. [L.
