3,167,873 RECORD FILE Lloyd M. Toms, Crozet, V2,, assignor to AcmeVisible Records, Inc., Crozet, Va., a corporation of Delaware Filed Jan. 27, 1964, Ser. No. 340,321 2 Claims. (Cl. 40-124) This invention relates to record filing devices. More particularly, the present invention relates to record filing devices comprising a holder panel characterized by novel divider elements forming pockets for the reception of cards and the like, in a stepped manner permitting exposure of the upper marginal edge portion of the filed article and thus a visible index to the filed contents.
The invention is further characterized by the internesting and cooperative character of the individual divider elements and their construction and arrangement permitting them to be disposed in an inclined fashion in their holder frame without necessity for fastener devices or fastening operations to hold the dividers or partitions in proper position.
The objects and further advantages of the present invention, its details of construction and arrangement of parts will be apparent from a consideration of the following specification and accompanying drawings, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of a mounting frame or panel embodying thedividers of the present invention, further illustrating items filed therein, and
FIG. 2 is a side elevational'view thereof, with parts broken away.
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary enlarged transverse sectional FIG. 4 is a fragmentary enlarged vertical sectional view of the assembly of FIG. 1, further illustrating the filing of articles therein. 7
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the face of one of the divider elements, and
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the rear of one of the divider elements.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 10 designates the base of a holder frame having eyelets 11 whereby the unit may be hung on a wall or the like in operative use. In the alternative, it willbe understood that the panel 10 can be mounted on a free standing easel or can be pivotally mounted on a longitudinal edge. Secured to the face of the panel 10 are a plurality of vertically disposed channel units generally indicated as 9, each comprising a web portion 12 and legs 13 and 14 disposed normal to the web 12, leg 13 having an inturned flange 15-which is parallel to the web 12. The leg 14 is longer than the leg 13 and further comprises a flanged portion 16 which is disposed parallel to the web 12, and the inturned or return bent leg component 17 parallel to the leg 14. The leg 17 terminates a distance from the web 12 equal to that of the distance between the flange 15 fromthe web 12.
To the flange portion 16 there is outwardly secured the label holder 18. As will be observed from FIG. 1, the mounting panel 10 has a plurality of channels 9 secured Ito and extending vertically thereof in side-by-side relationship as also appears from the fragmentary view of FIG. 3.
units generally designated as 19 may be formed of any suitable material such as plastic or metal, they are desir- 3,167,873 Patented Feb. 2, 1965 ably formed of a sin'gle sheet of'material comprising a facing'20, a foot member '21 extending normal thereto, and a backing 22 which is return bent and folded against the facing 20 on the line 23. This backing 22 terminates in a channel or foot member of substantially truncated .V-shape defined by the web component 24 which is normal to the backing 22 and the outwardly inclined terminal flange 25.
As shown from FIGS. 3 and 4, these divider units 19 are adapted to be disposed in internesting relationship within the channel members 9 between the web 12 thereof and the components 15 and 17. Thus, as will be seen best from FIG. 4, a unit 19 is disposed within a channel member 9 so that the inclined leg 25 rests against the web 12 and the forward edge 23 abuts against the portions 15 and-17. A second divider is mounted so that its foot 21 rests against and parallel to the web 24 with its edge 23 likewise abutting against the components 15 and 17, and so on, with as many divider panels 19 as is desired, the divider units thus being disposed at an incline within the channel members 9 mounted on panel 10.
In this manner also the face of one divider unit is held spaced from the back of an adjacent divider and provides a space or pocket between two adjacent divider units. The spacing between two divider units provides a pocket within which may be received an item to be filed such as the unit 26 which may be a phone dialer card, an Addressograph plate, a credit plate, and the like.
Wheneach of these units is of equal dimension and of height slightly greater than that between the fold line 23 and the foot 21 of each divider unit, the upper edges of the received items 26 are stepped and successively visibly disposed as shown in FIG. 1 to provide a self index. The label holder 14 may have disposed within the channels thereof a cooperative index strip marked with suitable indicia such as the numerals indicated at 27.
It will thus be seen that the dividers 19 can be simply and easily made from a single sheet of material and that these separate dividers are then readily stacked within the channel members and any number may be used, dependent upon channel height. There are no additional spot-welding or other fastening means necessary to hold these partitions or dividers in proper location.
Although I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it will be understood by those skilled in the art that changes may be made in the details thereof without departing from its scope as com prehended by the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a record filing device, a plurality of internested dividers each comprising a panel and a pair of foot members extending respectively from the opposed faces of the panel, a first one of said foot members extending from the lower edge of the panel and being disposed normal thereto, the second being disposed inwardly of said bottom edge and having a first component disposed normal to said panel and a second terminal component disposed at an incline outwardly therefrom, the first foot member of one divider element being disposed within the second foot member of an adjacent divider element.
