(Cl. 2-237) This invention relates to waistband fastening devices for trousers, skirts and the like.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a waistband tightening means which is superior in some respects to many known arrangements.

According to the invention waistband tightening means for trousers, skirts and the like comprises a belt in two halves adapted for their forward ends to be adjustably coupled together in front of the garment or to be secured to the waistband towards the front of it, the rear ends being anchored to the waistband at the sides thereof, and bands secured to the waistband towards the rear thereof, extending freely forwardly to points rearward of the anchorage points and adapted slidably to engage the belt halves to create bights in the belts extending rearwardly of the anchorage points.

The bands may be resiliently flexible strips anchored on the waistband towards the rear thereof and are provided with eyes for engagement with the belt halves.

To illustrate the invention an embodiment is described hereunder with reference to the accompanying drawings in which FIGURE 1 is a front elevation of a pair of trousers incorporating the invention, and FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of the waistband area, and FIGURE 3 is a rear elevation of the waistband area with a portion of the waistband cut away.

Referring to the figures, a belt 3 is formed in two halves 4 and 5 each of which is anchored to the waistband 6 towards the sides thereof, the anchorage points being indicated by the references 7 and 8.

Extending forwardly from an anchorage area 20 towards the rear of the waistband there are two resiliently flexible bands 9 and 10 each of which has an eye 11 through which the belt halves are threaded. After passing through the eyes 11, each band is doubled back on itself, and the two sections are stitched together at points 21.

The length of the bands is chosen so that a bight 12 is formed in each belt half, the bights extending rearwardly from the anchorage points 7 and 8. When the belt halves are coupled together as in FIGURE 1 the trousers are held firmly in position on the wearers waist, with the added advantage that at no time does any puckering of the forward waistband zone 13 between the anchorage points 7 and 8 occur. This is due to the fact that when the belt halves are drawn together at the buckle ends the anchorage points 7 and 8 are drawn towards the eyes 11 associated with the bands. This situation will prevail until the eyes reach the anchorage points, i.e. until bights 12 no longer exist.

3,038,166 Patented June 12, 1962 The form of buckle used in the embodiment is of no critical importance. Belt half 4 is threaded through a buckle 15 and may have its effective length altered by pulling the end 16 forward of the buckle. Half 5 is connected to the buckle through a hook 17 engaging an eye 18 at the back of the buckle, and the effective length is altered by the clamp arrangement 19.

In a second embodiment each belt half is coupled to the Waist band at one or more points forward of the anchorage points '7 and 8 instead of through buckle 15. For instance two spaced buttons may be provided on each side of the waistband and the halves are coupled to the buttons.

Many other embodiments of the invention exist each differing from the other in detail but in no way departing from the principle of the invention.

I claim:

1. Waistband tightening means for trousers, skirts and the like comprising a belt in two halves adapted for their forward ends to be adjustably coupled together in front of the garment, the rear ends being anchored to the waistband at the side thereof, and bands secured to the waistband towards the rear thereof, extending freely forwardly to points rearward of the anchorage points and adapted slidably to engage the belt halves to create bights in the belts extending rearwardly of the anchorage points.

2. Waistband tightening means as claimed in claim 1 in which the bands are resiliently flexible strips anchored on the waistband towards the rear thereof and are provided with eyes for engagement with the belt halves.

Waistband tightening means for trousers, skirts and the like comprising a belt in two halves adapted for their forward ends to be secured to the waistband towards the front of it, the rear ends being anchored to the waistband at the sides thereof, and bands secured to the waistband towards the rear thereof, extending freely forwardly to points rearward of the anchorage points and adapted slidably to engage the belt halves to create bights in the belts extending rearwardly of the anchorage points.

4. Waistband tightening means as claimed in claim 3 in which the bands are resiliently flexible strips anchored on the waistband towards the rear thereof and are provided with eyes for engagement with the belt halves.
