SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 304,183, dated August 26, 1884.
Application filed March 1'1, 1884. (N6 model.)
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER 0. DA- VIs, of Flemingsburg, in the county of Fleming and State of Kentucky, have inventeda.
\ le,ct upon the inside of the glass to pass freely to the outside without coming in contact with the said bottom rail, whereby it is protected I frominjury, and other advantages are gained. To this end my invention consists in a metal strip to be attached upon the upper face of thebottom rail of a sash, the said strip being provided with a ridge to be atthe outer face of: the glass, and with rests or stays for the,
inner face of the same, and also with drainage-grooves, as will be hereinafter more par- :ticularly described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawi ngs','forming part of this specification,
in which similar letters of reference indicate gorrespo ding'parts in both the figures.

A indicates the bottom rail of a sash, which has its upper face-formed with an outwardlyinelining bevel, instead of being rabbeted and bevelediii, the usual manner.
B is a strip or plate of metal, which strip is adapted'to be secured upon the upper face of the bottom rail of the sash by screws or in any suitable manner. Upon the strip B are secured, by soldering, brazing, or otherwise, angle-strips O, forming a shoulder, c, to bear upon the outer face of the glass D, and a bevel, d, extending from the glass outwardly and downwardly, as shown. Grooves or gutters E are formed in the stripB, which grooves inshoulder c of the ridges O and the stays F serving to support the sheet of glass D against any inward or outward pressure upon the same. In use the strip B is put in place upon the lower rail of a sash,with its outer edge slightly.

The stays F may be permanently secured to the strip B, but preferably will be secured in place, after the glass is put into the sash, by screws, and the lip b may be turned when the strip is made.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a strip for windowsashes, provided with grooves E, whereby when said strip is placed between the lower edge of the glass and the sash-rail ventilating and drainage spaces will be formed,
