BOW TIE HOLDERS Filed March 10, 1959 26 Z5 Z5 Z0 Illll IIIIIIII "IIIIIEHIIII' IIIIIII" BY AW/0 E. Maya/211 United States Patent 2,988,228 BOW TIE HOLDERS Mario E. Marchetti, 1951 E. 29th St., Brooklyn 29, N-Y. Filed Mar. 10, 1959, Ser. No. 798,487 1 Claim. (Cl. 211-13) This invention relates to holders or racks and, more particularly, to a holder for ready made bow ties particularly intended for use in the home to hold and store the users supply of how ties.
While various types of racks are available for supporting conventional cravats, they are not adaptable for sup porting ready made bow ties. It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a bow tie holder that is extremely simple in construction, eflicient in operation, and which will conveniently support a plurality of ready made bowties in such a manner that they are all clearly visible and thus the user may in a minimum of time select the tie he wishes to wear.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a bow tie holder which can be readily mounted on any wall or stationary object in the home, and which has individual bow tie support elements for releasably securing a plurality of ready made bow ties in vertically spaced apart aligned position.
Still an additional object of the present invention is to provide a ready made bow tie holder of the type de scribed that can be inexpensively manufactured in large quantities with a minimum amount of special equipment.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a bow tie holder made in accordance with the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a front elevational view of the rack shown in FIGURE 1, with a bow tie shown in phantom lines mounted thereupon;
FIGURE 3 is a side elevational view of the holder shown in FIGURE 2; and
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged transverse cross sectional view taken along line 44 of FIGURE 2.
Referring now to the drawing, and more particularly to FIGURE 1 thereof, a bow tie holder made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a vertical main support plate 12 having a plurality of longitudinally spaced apart and laterally outwardly projecting wings 14. Webs 16 integral with each of the wings 14, extend angularly outwardly from the ends thereof so as to maintain terminal prong portions 18 in spaced apart substantially parallel relationship with the general plane of the main support plate 12. It is to be noted, however, that the integral extension from each wing 14 consisting in the web 16 and the prong 18, is twisted through a slight angle, the right-hand one (FIG. 4) being twisted counter-clockwise and the left-hand one clockwise. This feature is also shown in FIG. 3. It will thus be recognized that each pair of prongs 18 are received within the space between the metallic wing clips 22 and fabric portions 24 of a ready made bow tie 26, such wing clips 22 being received within the space between the prongs 18 and the facing surface of the main support plate 12. A consequence of the oppositely twisted positions of the web and prong portions of the tie holder members is that a point contact, or a vertical linear contact of very short length, is provided between the prongs 18 and the forward tie clips 22, as indicated at 22a in FIG. 4.
2,988,228 Patented June 13, 1961 ice The upper end of the main support plate 12 is also provided with an upwardly and rearwardly inclined web 28 that maintains an upper mounting tab 30 in rearwardly spaced apart parallel relationship with the main support plate 12, such mounting tab 30 having an aperture 32 extending therethrough for receiving any fastener, such as a screw or nail for securing the rack upon a wall or other stationary object. The lower end of the main support plate 12 is also provided with a downwardly and rearwardly inclined web 34 that is integral with a lower mounting tab 36 having a similar aperture 38 extending therethrough.
The operation and use of bow tie holder will now be readily understood. Any screw or nail fasteners may be used to secure the rack upon a wall or stationary object, with the male prongs 18 extending upwardly. Thus, each pair of prongs 18 may be used to support individual ready made bow ties 26 in spaced apart aligned relationship with each other so that all are clearly visible. Also, each bow tie may be individually moved as may be desired, without aifecting the remaining bow ties. The holder may also be conveniently constructed of stamped metal material, or may be of molded plastic material, so that it can be manufactured in large quantities at a relatively low cost.
The bow tie holder disclosed herein is obviously applicable to both clip type and neckband types of how ties. The holder may be made as long as desired and any number of bow tie supporting prongs may be placed thereon in spaced apart parallel relationship to accommodate any desired number of bow ties.
While this invention has been described with particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that such is not to be construed as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best defined by the claim appended hereto.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A bow tie holder comprising an elongated fiat strip consisting of an intermediate body portion and extensions on the ends of the body portion, said extensions including angular portions extending rearward of the body portion and mounting tab portions on the outer extremities of the angular portions lying in a common plane spaced rearward of the body portion, the holder being adapted to be mounted in vertical position with said mounting tab portions secured to a wall whereby said body portion is spaced forward of the wall, the body portion having equidistant vertically spaced pairs of horizontally spaced bow tie holding members of constant width thereon, each of said members comprising wings extending laterally from opposite sides of the body portion in the plane of the body portion, webs extending upward and angularly forward from said wings, and prongs extending vertically upward from said webs, said members being flat and having said webs and said prongs thereof lying at oppositely disposed acute angles with relation to the body portion and said wings with the juxtaposed vertical edges of the prongs being positioned at a greater distance from the plane of the body portion than the outer vertical edges thereof.
