Description
North Muskegon, in the county of Muskegon UNTTEE STATES PATENT OFFICE- HORSE-CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 297,365, dated April 22, 1884.
Application and October 23,1883. x0 model.)
To alZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE M. FARR, of
and State of Michigan. have invented a new and Improved Horse-Gleaner, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved machine or brush for cleaning horses.
The invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination oi'parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a plan view of the under side of my improved horse-cleaner. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation ofthe same.
A sheet-mctal or other suitable box, A. is provided with a cover, A, having a handle, B, and with a transverse slot, 0, in the bottom. The edges of the metal along the slot 0 are turned upward, as shown. In the slot 0 a cylindrical brush, D, is held, which is mounted on a shaft, D. On each end oi the shaft Dv a small friction-wheel; E, is rigidly mounted, against each of which the wheels F rest, which are mounted on shafts F, journaled in the sides of the box, the wheels F being held in suitable recesses in the bottom of the box, at each side of the same. Links or bars G are loosely mounted onthe shafts F at each end of the 1 brush, at the middle of which bars or links G the shalt D of the brush is jonrnaled. The wheels E and F are to be made of rubber, or to have their rims made of rubber. The cleaner is held in the same manner as the usual horsebrush, and is rubbed over the animals skin, whereby the wheels F will be revolved by friction, as they project slightly from the bottom of the casing, and will revolve the small wheels E very rapidly, thus also revolving the brush very rapidly. The revolving brush sweeps the dust, 830., into the box A, from which it can easily be removed after taking 011' the cover.
I am aware that carpet-sweepers have been provided with a revolving brush driven by toothed floor-wheels meshing with the pinions on the brush-shaft; also, that these brushes have been driven by the floor-wheels below the brush-shaft in frictional Contact therewith,
and I do not claim such construction as of my invention.
Having thus described my invention. what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is-
In a horse-cleaner, the combination, with a box, A, having a slot, 0, of the brush D. the links or bars G, and the frictiorrwheels Eand F, substantially as herein shown and described.
