WENSAN WANG DISPOSABLE SHAVING KIT Filed Oct. 19, 1956 IN VEN TOR.
\NENSAN WAN 6- AT PORN 5Y3 United States Patent Ofi ice 2,818,872 Patented Jan. 7, 1958 DISPOSABLE SHAVING KIT Wensan Wang, Tokyo, Japan Application October 19, 1956, Serial No. 617,160
3 Claims. (Cl. 132-80) The present invention relates to a disposable shaving kit.
An object of the present invention is to provide a shaving kit which houses all of the appurtenances for shaving, and which enables such appurtenances to be readily and easily withdrawn therefrom by a user.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a shaving kit which is of a size which may be conveniently carried in the coat pocket of a user.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a shaving kit which is fabricated of disposable material, is simple of structure, and is highly effective in action.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be fully apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the annexed drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the components of the shaving kit of the present invention, in disassembled condition,
Figure 2 is a perspective view with a portion of the receptacle broken away, showing the components of the present invention in assembled condition,
Figure 3 is an end view on an enlarged scale of the assembly of Figure 2 with the cover removed,
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the razor of the kit of the present invention,
Figure 5 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4, and
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the hand of a user, showing how the contents of one of the containers of cream or shaving lotion is discharged therefrom.
Referring in greater detail to the drawing, in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views, the shaving kit of the present invention comprises a receptacle 10 having an open end 11 closable by means of a cap 12.
The invention includes a razor 13 embodying a backing member 14 arranged in an upwardly extending direction relative to a hollow handle 15. The backing member 14 has a plurality of spaced teeth 16 forming a serrated edge along the lower end of the backing member 14. The razor 13 includes a guard 17 positioned forwardly of the backing member 14 with the lower end adjacent to and spaced above the serrated edge formed by the teeth 16 of the backing member 14.
A fiat blade 18 having a cutting edge 19 is interposed between and is frictionally engaged by the backing member 14 and by the guard 17, as shown most clearly in Figure 5. The cutting edge 19 of the blade 18 is positioned in the space between the teeth 16 of the backing member 14 and the lower end of the guard 17.
Referring to Figure l, the hollow handle of the razor 13 is positioned rearwardly of and in spaced par allel relation with respect to the backing member 14 and, when in this position, is insertable into and withdrawable from the receptacle 10 through the open end 11. A rivet 21 extending through an aperture formed in an car 24 provided on one end of the handle 15 connects the one end of the handle 15 to the backing member 14 for swinging movement from the parallel position (Figure 1), to a position perpendicular to the backing member 14, as shown in Figures 4 and 5.
The razor 13 is provided with cooperating releasable latching means on the handle 15 and on the backing member 14 for holding the handle 15 in its perpendicular posi tion.
Such means embodies an upwardly struck nub 22 proiecting from a tongue 23 dependingly carried by the upper end of the backing member 14, the nub 22 being frictionally engaged by an indentation 24 formed on the car 24 of the handle 15 when the handle has been swung to its perpendicular position.
A second indentation 25 on the ear 24 of the handle 15 is frictionally engaged by the nub 22 when the handle 15 is in the parallel position, shown in Figure 1.
A container 26 filled with talcum powder is held within the hollow handle 15 and is withdrawable from the other end opposite to the backing member 14. The container 26 has a drawstring 27 attached to it, remaining exteriorly of the hollow handle 15, for withdrawing the container 26 from the hollow handle 15.
The shaving kit of the present invention includes another container 29 filled with shaving cream, and a third container 28 filled with an after-shaving lotion. The containers 28 and 29 are each insertable into and withdrawable from the receptacle 10 through the open end 11 and when inserted within the container 10, as shown in Figure 3, nest snugly within the container 10 without room for appreciable movement therein.
In Figure 6 the container 29 is shown in the hand 31 of a user, and one end of the container 29 has been torn away, so that a quantity of shaving cream, as indicated by the reference numeral 32, may be squeezed therefrom.
Referring specifically to Figure 5, it will be seen that the blade holding portion of the razor 13 is formed from a single strip of rigid metal which has been bent to form the shank 23, the backing member 14, folded back upon itself, and the guard 17, also folded back upon the backing member 14, to provide a slotted space for the blade 18. The hollow handle 15 is fabricated from a rigid material, such as plastic, metal, or the like, and may be formed from a flat sheet rolled upon itself for a portion of its length and leaving a part fiat and extending from one end for the reception of the rivet 21.
Preferably, the receptacle 10, razor 13, containers 26, 28 and 29, and the cap 12 are all fabricated of a disposable material, such as metal, polyethylene, or any of the plastics suitable for such use.
In using the shaving kit of the present invention, the components thereof may be assembled as shown in Figure 1, with the razor 13 folded so that the backing member 14 and the handle 15 are in the parallel position. The razor 13 may be first inserted in the receptacle 10 and the containers 28 and 29 may next be inserted and the cap 12 put into place closing the open end 11 of the receptacle 10.
When it is desired to use the shaving kit of the present invention, the cap 12 is first removed, opening the receptacle 10. The containers 28 and 29 may be next withdrawn from the receptacle 10, the container 29 may be broken and its contents squeezed therefrom and applied to the users face. The razor 13 may be then withdrawn and its handle 15 swung from the parallel position to the perpendicular position and used in the conventional manner. The contents of the container 28 may be next used by breaking one end of the container 28, and lastly, powder may be released from the container 26, first having pulled the drawstring 27 to pull the container 26 from the hollow handle 15. After use, all of the aforesaid components of the present invention may be discarded.
The receptable 10 may be manufactured of such size as to be readily and easily carried in any pocket of the users wearing apparel.
What is claimed is:
l. A disposable shaving kit comprising a receptacle having an open end, a razor including a backing member, and a hollow handle positioned rearwardly of and in spaced parallel relation with respect to said backing member insertable into and withdrawable from said receptacle through the open end thereof, said handle having one end connected to said backing member for swinging movement from the parallel position to a position perpendicular to said backing member, a first container filled with talcum powder housed within said handle and withdrawable through the other end thereof, a second container filled with shaving cream, a third container filled with after-shave lotion, said second and third containers being each insertable into and \vithdrawnblc from said rcccptaele through the open end thereof, and a removable cap closing the open end of said receptacle.
2. The kit according to claim 1 which includes in addition cooperating releasable latching means on said handle and on said backing member for holding the handle in its perpendicular position.
3. The kit according to claim I which includes in addition a drawstring attached to said first container and having an end exteriorly of the other end of said handle for withdrawing said first container from said handle.
