The object of this invention is to devise a girdle in which the parts thereof may be so cut that, with slight change in the assembly thereof, it may be adapted to be worn with equal efiiciency upon a woman with full hips or upon one with slender hips.

Another object is to devise a girdle that can be manufactured in a comparativley simple manner and yet will provide efiicient means of support for the abdominal geggon as well as in the sacroiliac region of the wearers Other objects will appear from the following description and claims when considered together with the accompanying drawing.

Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my present device in position upon the body of the wearer;

Fig. 3 is a rear elevation thereof; and

Fig. 4 is a view corresponding to Fig. 1 except that it shows another form of this same invention.

It is to be understood that the present form of disclosure is merely for the purpose of illustration and that there might be devised various modifications thereof without departing from the spirit of my invention as herein set forth and claimed.

Referring now to the accompanying drawing, the main body 1 of the girdle may be formed as a one-piece blank of suitable fabric with substantial stretch, that is horizontally when embodied in the present garment or in all directions. This one-piece blank will extend entirely about the buttock and hip region of the body of the wearer and will have its two ends located at the front; the two ends of the blank will be tapered towards a point in each instance so as to have an upper inclined edge and a substantially horizontal lower edge. This particular form of body blank 1 is for the purpose of permitting these front ends to be joined in either of two different manners according to conditions to be mentioned.

Referring to Fig. 1 of the present drawing, the front insert blank 2 of fabric, with one-way stretch horizontally, is of upright trapezoidal form and has its inclined ends sewed to the lower edges of the blank 1, the front end portions of the blank 1 being turned upwardly so as to give the eifect of pulling the body part 1 about the body of the wearer when in position upon her body; with the result that there is precluded the necessity of darts at the side of the blank 1 in order to obtain a snug fit. However, in the form illustrated in Fig. 4 of the present drawing, the front insert blank 3 of the same size and shape as in the form of device illustrated in Fig. 1 hereof, is in inverted position and has its ends sewed to the upper inclined edges of the blank 1. This form of garment may be for those who have fuller hips Whereas the form of garment illustrated in Fig. 1 hereof may be worn by those who have less fully developed hips.

In each of the two forms above referred to, a longitudinally elastic fabric strip 5 is sewed about the upper edge of the body part 1 and has its ends, spaced, from each other at the rear where there is. provided, the reinforcing member 6 of upright trapezoidal form upon the inside of the body part 1 and across the ends of the strip 5. The member 6 is sewed along its end edges to the body part 1, as indicated at 7, and also across the ends of the strip 5, as indicated byreference numeral 8. The member 6 extends above the upper; edge of? the, blank 1 to the extent of the strip 5 and is sewed across the top of the body part 1, as indiacted at 9.

In either form of the device, as herein referred to, there is provided the longitudinally elastic strip 10 entirely about the lower edge of the girdle; and detachable garters may be attached to the loops 11 at the bottom thereof.

It will be observed that the single elastic strip 5 forms part of the abdominal support and also part of the supporting means for the sacroiliac region; while the strip 10 forms part of the abdominal support and also extends beneath the buttock of the wearer. Thus this girdle is amply provided with means to prevent it from riding up upon the wearers body even when stockings are not being worn; and this garment ensures ample feeling of security and comfort in the abdominal and sacroiliac regions of the body of the wearer as well as in the intermediate hip regions.

From the above it will be seen that I have provided a girdle of comparatively simple construction that affords ample and effective and dependable means of supporting engagement in the several regions of the wearers body, as above mentioned. The present form of garment is comparatively inexpensive because of the standardized form of blanks that may be adapted for use in the manufacture of girdles for differently developed hips of the prospective wearers; with the result that there is ensured the same snugness of fit and the same degree of comfort in all cases. At the same time there is permitted all necessary freedom of movement in this region of the body of the wearer without disturbing the position of the garment.

What I claim is:

1. A girdle comprising a single body of material of legless form with a front portion of reduced height adapted for supporting engagement beneath the abdomen of the body of the wearer and having a rear portion of greater height adapted for engagement over the sacroiliac region of her body and over her buttock and having its intermediate side portions of graduated height adapted for engagement about the hips of the body of the wearer, said body of material having stretch horizontally about the body of the wearer when in position of use thereupon, the side portions of said body of material having upper and lower edges diverging rearwardly from each other from the front towards the rear thereof, a longitudinally elastic strip attached about the top edge portion of said single body and adapted to extend transversely and in an uninterrupted manner beneath the abdominal region of the wearers body, and a longitudinally elastic strip attached to and extending in an uninterrupted manner about the lower edge of said single body in the region immediately below the wearers abdomen so as to form part of the supporting means therefor and being adapted for engagement beneath the buttock of the wearers body when in position of use.
