(Cl. 223-90) This invention relates to garment hangers, and more particularly to hangers for a plurality of garments such as coats, pants, skirts and the like, and has for its principal object to provide a novel garment hanger for supporting portions of items of apparel in substantially the shape when on a wearer.

.Other objects of the present invention are to provide a garment hanger having a coat supporting portion. with an upstanding neck portion to support the collar of the coat in normal position; to provide a garment hanger that is adjustable for diiferent size garments; to provide such a garment hanger with a trouser hanger so arranged as to support a pair of trousers by the cuffs thereof and not produce undesirable fold marks or wrinkles in same; to provide such a garment hanger with an adjustable clamping means for supporting a shirt at the waistband; to provide such a hanger wherein the trouser hangers are on the skirt hangers and adjustable in relative spacing; and to provide a garment hanger that is economical to manufacture and efiicient in use in supporting garments in such a manner as to maintain the. shape thereof with no undesirable fold marks or wrinkles therein.

In accomplishing these and other objectsof the present invention, 1 have provided improved details of structure, the preferred form of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Referring more in detail to the drawings:

The garment hanger 1 shown in the accompanying drawings embodies generally a coat hanger 2 and a trouser or skirt support assernbly 3.

The coat hanger 2 is preferably formed or molded of suitable material such as metal, synthetic resin, paper and the like, and consists of a main body part 4 having a central portion 5 from which projects laterally extending arms 6 and 7. The central body portion consists of an upper wall member 8 with an outer or upper surface 9 that is curved transversely of the body portion and terminates in a downwardly extending curved forward wall 10 and a downwardly extending rear wall 11. The central body portion 5 has a central upwardly inclined substantially frustoconical portion 12 which simulates the neck of a person and cooperates with the- walls 8, 10 and 11 to provide a shape'substantially similar to the back, chest and neck of a person to support those portions of a coat substantially in the same manner as it would be shaped on a person. frusto-conical portion 12 is connected'with an integral inwardly and downwardly extending wall 14 which terminates in an upstanding projection 15 on which is secured a suitable hook 16 whereby the garment hanger may be hung thereby on a suitable support.

In the illustrated structure, shoulder supports 17 and 18 are adjustably mounted on the arms 6 and 7 for movement laterally of the hanger structure; however, it is to be understood that the shoulder supports 17 and 18 may be made integral with the body portion 4 to form a onepiece coat hanger. The arms 6 and 7 have recesses 19 in the upper portion thereof for receiving the corresponding portions of the shoulder supports, the recess being substantially the samedepth as the thickness of the walls 20 of the shoulder supports whereby the upper surfaces 21 of said shoulder support walls form substantially continuation of the surface 9 of the'body portion. The shoulder supports have shoulder members 22 terminating in downwardly curved ends 23 adapted to extend into the sleeves of a coat to aid in supporting the upper portions of the sleeves so as not to produce any wrinkles or fold lines therein. The shoulder supports 17' and.;18 are curved transversely and have side walls 24 extending inwardly whereby the outer surface of the hanger has a rounded shape to support the upper portion of a coat without forming undesirable fold marks or wrinkles therein. The arms 6 and 7 have slots 25 extending laterally relative to the body member and the shoulder portions 22 have pins 26 extending through the slots 25 and terminating in heads 27 engaging the inner surface of the arms to provide a friction therebetween tending to hold the shoulder supports 17 and 18 in adjusted position.

The trouser and skirt hanging assembly consists of a rod member 28 which, in the illustrated structure, is sectional for telescopic extensible movement. The rod member 28 has one section 29 in the form of a tube having one end suitably secured as at 30 to the sleeve supporting portion 23 of the shoulder support 18. The other section 31 is in the form of a rod having one end slidably mounted in the bore 32 of the tubular member 29 j and the other end suitably secured as at 33 to the sleevesupporting portion 23 of the shoulder support 17. A suitable latch 34 is arranged on the sectional rod member 28 to hold same in selected extended position. Hanger members are positioned on the sectional rod member 28 and, in the illustrated structure, an arcuate band member 39 is fixed to the tubular rod portion 29 and extends outwardly therefrom in a suitable shape to be engaged by one side of the waistband of a skirt. The band members .are each provided adjacent-each end with trouser hangers which consist of arms 53 fixed on the bandmembers adjacent the ends thereof and extending outwardly from vthe sides substantially transversely of the hanger and terminating in upwardly extending fingers 54 forinsertion in interiors of the cufis of pairs of trousers whereby when the member 40 is moved relative to the member 39 to increase the spacing therebetween the :fingers will be moved to the portions'of the cuffs at the .creases thereof and'hold the ends and trousers taut therebetween.

The latch 34 is then released to-engage the pin 37 in the nearest recess 38 to hold the structure in laterally adjusted position. Then, if trousers are to be supported on the hanger, the cuffs are arranged whereby the fingers 54 are inserted into the cuffs and the latch 42 released to move the member 40 until the cuif portion of the trousers are drawn taut. There are four .fingers on each of the skirt hanger members whereby two member 40 is moved to increase the spacing between same and the member 39 until the waistband of the skirt is relatively snug on the members. A coat is then placed over 'the hanger portion whereby the collar of the coat engages the back of the member 12 and the sleeve members 23 extend into the sleeves of the coat. The coat is then buttoned and the hanger will support the coat and other garments substantially in the shape they would take when on the wearer.

It is to be understood that while I have illustrated and "described one form of my invention, it is not to be limited to the specific form or arrangement of parts herein described and shownexcept insofar as such limitations are included in the claims.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: 1. A garment hanger comprising, a substantially thin main body part having a curved wall with depending front and rear walls, an upstanding substantiallyfrusto-conical portion on the main body part, a hook in said upstanding portion extending upwardly therefrom, said main body part having side portions of inverted U-shaped cross section extending therefrom, shoulder members having portions slidably embracing the side portions and extending on opposite sides of the body part whereby said shoulder members are movable on said side portions to increase the width of the hanger, said shoulder members terminating in rounded downwardly extending sleeve ends which are adapted to extend into the sleeves of a coat to cooperate shoulder versely, co-acting means on said side portions and shoulder members retaining said side portions and shoulder mem- "bers in slidable engagemenha sectional rod having ends secured to the respective sleeve ends below the body part,

said sectional rod being extendable whereby the sectional rod'is extended when the shoulder members are adjusted outwardly of the body part, and latch means on the rod sections .to; sec,ure saidlrod sections and shoulder members in selected extended position.

2. A garment hanger comprising, a substantially thin main body part having a curved wall with depending front and rear walls, an upstanding substantially frustoconical portion on the main body part, a hook in said upstanding portion extending upwardly therefrom, said main body part having side portions extending therefrom, shoulder portionsladjustably. mounted on the side portions and extending on opposite sides of the body part whereby said shoulder portions may be extended to increase the width of the hanger, said shoulder portions terminating in rounded downwardly extending sleeve ends which are adapted to extend into the sleeves of a'coat to cooperate with the body part and upstanding portion and shoulder portions to maintain the shape of a coat supported on the hanger, said shoulder portions being curved transversely, a sectional'rod having ends secured to the respective sleevev ends-below the body part, said sectional rod being extendable whereby the sectional rod is extended when the shoulder portions are adjusted outwardly of the body part, latch means on'the rod sections to secure same in selected extended position, a hanger member fixed on one rod section, a second hanger member movably mounted .on the other red section to vary the spacing between said main body part having a curved wall with depending from and rearwalls, an upstanding substantially frustoconical-portion on the main body part, a hook in said upstanding portion extending upwardly therefrom, said main body part having side portions extending therefrom, shoulder portions adjustably mounted on the side portions and extending on opposite sides of the body part whereby said shoulder portions may be extended to increase the width ofthe hanger, said shoulder portions terminating in rounded downwardly extending sleeve ends which are adapted to extend into the sleeves of a coat to cooperate with the body part and upstanding portion and shoulder portions to maintain the shape of a coat supported on the hanger, said shoulder portions being curved transversely, a sectional rod having ends secured to the respective sleeve ends below the body part, said sectional rod being extendablewhereby the sectional rod is extended when the shoulder" portions are adjusted outwardly of the body part, latch means on the rod sections to secure same in selected extended position, a hanger member fixed on one rod section, a second hanger member movably mounted on the other rod section to vary the spacing between said hanger members, latchmeans on said second hanger member engageable with said other rod section to secure said cross section extending therefrom, shoulder members having portions slidably embracing the side portions and extending on opposite sides of the body part whereby said shoulder members are movable on said side portions to increase the width of the hanger, said shoulder members terminating in rounded downwardly extending sleeve ends whichareadapted to extend into the sleeves of a coat to cooperatewith-thev body part and. upstanding portion and asaaoos 5 shoulder members to maintain the shape of a coat supported on the hanger, said shoulder members being curved transversely, co-acting means on said side portions and shoulder members retaining said side portions and shoulder members in slidable engagement, a sectional rod having ends secured to the respective sleeve ends below the body part, said sectional rod being extendable whereby the sectional rod is extended When the shoulder members are adjusted outwardly of the body part, latch means on the rod sections to secure said rod sections and shoulder 0 members in selected extended position, a hanger member fixed on one rod section, a second hanger member movably mounted on the other rod section to vary the spacing between said hanger members, and latch means on said second hanger member engageable with said other rod section to secure said second hanger member in selected position.
