5 Claims. '(Cl. 2-158) This invention .relates .to improvements in gloves and/ or mittens and particularly to "such articles of wearing apparel as aredesigned forwork use and are of a reversible character.

An object is to provide a reversible glove and/or mitten wherein the .two outer side walls are complementary and .are .50 .secured together that either side wall may serve the purpose of the working or palm surface, and which glove or mitten is provided with an intermediate inner partition wall complementary to each outer side wall and so disposed between the two outer side walls as to provide, on either side thereof, a thumb receiving and a finger receiving compartment.

An object is to provide such a glove and/or mitten wherein, in addition to each outer side wall being adaptable to serve as a work surface or palm surface, the partition Wall may also serve as a work or palm surface to reinforce or substitute for either outer side wall. The partition is further adapted to serve as a back surface for either outer side wall.

A meritorious feature is that the two outer walls and the inner intermediate wall are each formed of a single sheet of material and the thumb portion of each wall is disposed within the same plane as the finger portion of the wall and the three walls are secured together along their margins so as to define between each outer wall and the inner partition. wall a thumb receiving portion and a finger receiving portion. The thumb and finger receiving portions on one side of the partition wall are of substantially the same size as the thumb and finger receiving portion on the opposite side thereto.

Another meritorious feature is that the partition wall is so arranged between the two outer side walls as to exhibit a fulness such that the partition wall may lie substantially flat against either outer side wall.

Other objects, advantages, and meritorious features wiil more fully appear from the following specification, claims, and accompanying drawing, wherein:

Fig. 6 is an elevation of the invention embodied in a glove as distinguished from a mitten;

Fig. 8 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 8-8 of Fig. 6.

The invention is shown in the first five figures of the drawing as embodied in a mitten. In Figs. 6, 7, and 8, the invention is shown as embodied in a glove. In each embodiment the glove and/or mitten comprises opposed'outer'side'walls Hand 12 and'an intermediate inner partition wall'14. 'One outer side wall would'normally constitute the work surface or-palm surface and the opposite outer side Wall wouldnormally constitute the back surface of the glove and/or-mitten.

Due to 'this'character of construction, either outer side wallis adaptedto serve as a palm area or work area. They serve equivalent purposes. The inner'partition wall 14 is disposedfbetween the outer side walls, -and *the three walls ltl, '-1 2, and 14 are secured together bystitching 'or the like along their opposed margins as at '16, or the like, all as shown' in 'Figs.2-'-5.

Securement of this *parti'tion wall between the two outer side walls 1 in the manner shown provides a thumb receiving compartment or portion and a finger receiving compartment or portion between each outer sidewall and the partition wall. The thumb receiving portion and the finger receivingcompartment on oneside'ofthe partition wall are substantially equal in size to the thumb receiving compartment and the finger receiving compartment on the opposite side of the partition wall. There is a fulness in the partition wall as shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 8 which permits the partition wall to lie substantially flat against either outer side Wall.

Considering the mitten structure shown in the first five figures of the drawing and hereinabove described, it will be seen that the hand of the user may be inserted thereinto on either side of the partition wall 14. In other words, either the outer side wall 10 or the outer side wall 12 may be employed as a work or palm surface. The partition wall may serve as a back wall and cooperate with either outer side wall. On the other hand, if either outer side wall is worn out, the partition wall may serve as a front wall or work surface wall and as a substitute for the worn-out side wall. The mitten shown has therefore three work surface or palm surface areas, each one of which may be subjected to wear.

Figs. 6, 7, and 8 illustrate the invention as embodied in a glove having a thumb receiving compartment and four separate finger receiving compartments. One outer side wall is indicated by the numeral 10, the other outer side wall by the numeral 12, and the intermediate inner partition wall by the numeral 14. Again, as in the case of the mitten, the two outer side walls are complementary and the inner partition wall is complementary to each outer side wall. The three walls are secured to each outer side wall. The three walls are secured together about their margins so as to define thumb and finger receiving compartments disposed on opposite sides of the partition wall. Each thumb receiving compartment is disposed within the same plane as its finger receiving compartments on the same side of the partition wall. Because of this arrangement, either outer side wall may be used as the palm surface or work surface of the glove, all as described in connection with the mitten shown in the first five figures of the drawing.

The glove and/ or mitten may be made -of any suitable type of sheet material. Fabric may be used such as is common in the fabrication of fabric or cloth gloves. On the other hand, leather or any other suitable material may be employed. Throughout the claims the word mitten is used to identify either a mitten which embodies a separate compartment for the thumb only or a glove type of mitten which embodies a separate compartment for each fingenexcept where specifically designated.

What I claim is:

1. A reversible mitten having two complementary outer side walls and an intermediate inner partition wall complementary to each outer side wall and disposed between the outer side walls, said three walls being secured together along their margins defining two complementary hand-receiving compartments on opposite sides of the partition wall between the partition wall and an outer side wall.

2. A reversible mitten as defined in claim 1, characterized in that the partition wall is disposed midway between said two side walls and possesses sufiicient fulness so that it can lie fiat against each outer side wall and the complementary compartments on opposite sides of the partition wall are of substantially the same size.

3. A reversible mitten as defined in claim 1 characterized in that each wall is formed of a single sheet of material and the thumb portion thereof is disposed within the same plane as the finger portion thereof whereby either outer sidewall may serve as a palm surface.

4. A reversible mitten having two complementary outer side walls and an intermediate inner partition wall complementary to each outer side wall and disposed midway between the two outer side walls, said three walls being secured together along their complementary outer margins defining on either side of the partition wall a thumb receiving portion adapted to receive the thumb of the hand of a user and defining a finger receiving portion adapted to receive the several fingers of the hand of the user, said inner partition wall possessing a suflicient fullness that it can lie flat against either outer side wall throughout substantially the entire inner surface thereof.

A reversible glove having two complementary outer side walls and an intermediate inner partition wall complementary to each outer side wall and disposed midway between the two outer side walls, said three walls being secured together along their complementary outer margins defining on either side of the partition wall a thumb receiving portion adapted to receive the thumb of a hand of a user and defining a plurality of finger receiving portions each adapted to receive a finger of the hand of the user, said inner partition Wall possessing a sufficient fullness that it can lie flat against either outer side wall throughout substantially the entire inner surface thereof.
