Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE A. G. MACK, OF ROCHESTER, NEV YORK.
LAST-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 27,229, dated February 21, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, A. G. MACK, of Rochester, in the county 0f Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and-useful Improvement in Last-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, forming part of this specification, in the several figures of which similar characters of reference denote the same part.
Figure l is a side View of my improved last holder. Fig. 2 is vertical longitudinal section of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in a movable standard having attached to it a spring rod, the upper end of which is inserted in the last, and an upright standard with a sliding, rest for the toe of the last, and an eccentric by which the sliding rest is raised or lowered.
In the drawings A is the base on which the last holder rests screwed down to the bench by screw s.
M is the movable standard which can be moved along the slide to suit the size of theplast and fastened in its place by the screw and nut n, 7' is the spring rod, L is the last on the rod, B is the upright standard and D the sliding rest, which is raised or lowered by the eccentric E; so that the last being placed on the rod 7, by turning the eccentric E the sliding rest D is forced up against the toe of the last and its pressure together with that of the spring rod 1 keeps it firmly in its place, and the desired work having been done by reversing the eccentric E the pressure is removed and the sliding rest lowered, so that the last can easily be removed.
I-Iaving thus described my improvement, I claim- The arrangement of the movable standard M and spring rod f1 with the upright standard B. sliding rest D, and eccentric E, as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name before two subscribing wit# nesses.
A. Gr. MACK.
