Application August 12, 1955, Serial No. 528,072 3 Claims. 01. 41-11 The present invention relates to an ornament or dis play device for use with a globular ornament of the type hung on Christmas trees.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an ornament having the shape of a flower with petals and one which is attractive in appearance for attachment to a silvered or colored Christmas tree hall ornament so as to enhance the appearance of the Christmas tree ball ornament.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a decorative device in the form of a rosette or flower which can be used to decorate packages, for display upon a table, or to hang, in combination with a Christmas tree ornament, from a Christmas tree.
A further object of the present invention is to provide an ornament or display device of simple structure, one easily and economically manufactured and assembled, and one which is highly attractive in appearance when assembled.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be fully apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of an ornament constructed according to the present invention shown in assembled position surrounding a globular ornament such as is used on a Christmas tree.

Referring in greater detail to the drawings in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views, the ornament of the present invention is shown in a first form in Figures 1 to 3, inclusive, and is indicated by the reference numeral 10. The ornament 10 is made from at least two foldable blanks 11 and 12 shown in undeveloped form in Figures 4 and 5, respectively,
view of the ornament of each blank 11 and 12 being fabricated of a flexible material such as sheet metallic polystyrene, or the like. Referring to Figure 4, the blank 11 is seen in undeveloped form and is in the form of a fiat sheet having a full line 13 extending along the longitudinal center line of the blank 11 with a slot 14 on one side of and spaced from the longitudinal center line of the blank .11 and with another slot 15 on the other side of and spaced from the longitudinal center line of the blank 11. The slots 14 and 15 lie along the transverse center line of the blank 11 with each slot 14 and 15 having an open end facing away from the longitudinal center line.
The other blank 12 is also in the form of a flat sheet and has a fold line 16 extending along the longitudinal center line of the blank 12 with a slot 17 on one side of the longitudinal center line and another slot 18 on the other side of the longitudinal center line. The two slots 17 and 18 lie along the transverse center line of the blank 12 with each slot having an open end facing toward the longitudinal center line of the blank 12.
Referring again to the Figures 2 and 3, it will be seen that the ornament 10 is assembled from four blanks, two of the blanks 11 assembled with two of the blanks 12. Each of the blanks 11 is bent upon itself along its. fold line 13 to an upright position with the other blank 11 next to it in side by side relation. The slots 14 and 15 of each of the blanks 11 are in registry with each other and with the slots of the other blank 11 and have their open ends facing upwardly.
Each of the blanks 12 also is bent upon itself along its fold line 16 to an upright position with its slots 17 and 18 in registry with each other and with the slots 1.7 and 18 of the other blank 12 with the open ends of the slots 17 and 18 of each of the blanks 12 facing downwardly.
The blanks 12 are arranged in crisscross relation with respect to the blanks 11 and have their downwardly-facing slots 17 and 18 insertable in the upwardly-facing slots 14 and 15 of the blanks 11 with the downwardly-facing slots 17 and 18 of the blanks 12 engaging the portions of the blanks 11 intermediate the longitudinal fold line of each of the blanks 11 and its upwardly-facing slots 14 and 15.
Each blank 11 has an arcuately-shaped cut-out 19 on each side of its longitudinal center line extending inwardly from the adjacent side edge of the blank 11 and along the transverse center line of the blank 11. Each blank 12 is similarly provided with asimilarly-shaped cut-out 20 extending inwardly along its side edge and along the transverse center line of the blank 12. The cut-outs 19 and 26 of the blanks 11 and 12, respectively, when the blanks 11 and 12 are in the assemble position shown in Figure 3, form a socket adapted to embracingly receive a Christmas tree ball ornament or other blobular element indicated by the reference numeral 21 in Figures 1 and 3.
In the structure of the ornament indicated by the reference numeral 22 shown in assembled condition in Figures 6 to 8, inclusive, the blanks which form the ornament 22 are indicated by the reference numerals 23, 24, and 25, and are shown in undeveloped form in Figures 9 and 10, the blanks 23 and 24 of Figure 10 being the longer of the petal structures of the ornament while the blanks 25 are the shorter of the petal structures of the ornament 22. The blank 23 is in the form of a flat sheet and has a fold line 26 extending along the longitudinal center line with a slot 27 on one side of the longitudinal center line and another slot 28 on the other side of the longitudinal center line, the slots 27 and 28 lying along the transverse center line of the blank 23 with each slot 27 and 23 having an open end facing away from the longitudinal center line of the blank 23.
The blank 24 is also in the form of a flat sheet and has a fold line 29 extending along the longitudinal center line with a slot 30 on one side of the longitudinal center line and spaced therefrom and another slot 31 on the other side of the longitudinal center line and spaced therefrom, the slots 30 and 31 lying along the transverse center line of the blank 24 each having its open end facing toward the longitudinal center line.
Each of the blanks 25 is provided with a fold line 32 and with a slot 33 on one side of the fold line 32 and with a slot 34 on the other side of the fold line 32, the slots 33 and 34 being disposed along the transverse center line of each of the blanks 25.
Each of the blanks 23 and 24 has a cut-out 35 and 36, respectively, centrally thereof extending on each side of the respective fold lines and extending along the transverse center line of the respective blank. Each of the blanks 25 has a similar cut-out 37 extending on each side of the fold line 32 along the transverse center line of the blank 25.
Referring to Figure 11 it will be seen that the blank 23 is arranged in criss-cross relation with respect to the blank 24, both of the blanks 23 and 24 being bent along their fold lines to an upright position with the downwardly facing slots 27 and 28 of the blank 23 insertable in the upwardly facing slots 36 and 31 of the blank 24 and with the downwardly facing slots 27 and 2% of the blank 23 engaging the portions of the blank 24 intermediate its longitudinal fold line and its upwardly-facing slots 30 and 31. When the blanks 23 and 24 are in their crisscross position and assembled, their cut- outs 35 and 36, respectively, form an upwardly-opening socket for receiving a Christmas tree ball ornament or other globular element indicated by the reference numeral 38 and embracingly engage the ornament or element 38 so that the assembled blanks may be suspended thereon.
The ornament shown in assembled condition in Figures 1 to 3, inclusive, may be used as a table decoration either singly or in combination with other similar ornaments or display devices or may be used for including in the decorative wrapping of a package. It may also be used with a Christmas tree ball ornament or element such as is illustrated in Figure l] and indicated by the reference numeral 38 for attachment to a Christmas tree in the same way that the ornament shown in assembled condition in Figures 6 to 8 inclusive, is used.
What is claimed is:
1. As a new article of manufacture, an ornament made from at least two foldable blanks each fabricated of a flexible material, one of said blanks being in the form of a fiat sheet and having a fold line extending along the longitudinal center line with a slot on each side of the longitudinal center line, the two slots of said one blank lying along the transverse center line thereof with each slot having an open end facing toward said longitudinal center line, said one blank being bent upon itself along its fold line to an upright position with its slots in registry and having their open ends facing upwardly, the other of said blanks being in the form of a fiat sheet and having a fold line extending along the longitudinal center line with a slot on each side of and spaced from the longi tudinal center line, the two slots of said other blank lying along the transverse center line with each slot having an open end facing away from the longitudinal center line, said other blank being bent upon itself along its fold line to an upright position with its slots in registry and with the open ends of its slots facing downwardly, said other blank being arranged in criss-cross relation with respect to said one blank and having its downwardly-facing slots insertable in the upwardly-facing slots of said one blank with the upwardly-facing slots of said one blank engaging the portions of said other blank intermediate its longitudinal fold line and its downwardly-facing slots.
2. As an article of manufacture, an ornament made from at least two foldable blanks each fabricated of a flexible material, one of said blanks being in the form .4 of a flat sheet and having a fold line extending along the longitudinal center line with a slot on each side of the longitudinal center line, the two slots of said one blank lying along the transverse center line thereof with each slot having an open end facing toward said longitudinal center line, said one blank having an arcuately shaped cut-out on each side of its longitudinal center line extending along the transverse center line of said one blank, said one blank being bent upon itself along its fold line to an upright position with its slots in registry and having their open ends facing upwardly, the other of said blanks being in the form of a flat sheet and having a fold line extending along the longitudinal center line with a slot on each side of and spaced from the longitudinal center line, the two slots of said other blank lying along the transverse center line with each slot having an open end facing away from the longitudinal center line, said other blank having an arcuately shaped cut-out on each side of its longitudinal center line extending along the transverse center line of said other blank, said other blank being bent upon itself along its fold line to an upright position with its slots in registry and with the open ends of its slots facing downwardly, said other blank being arranged in criss-cross relation with respect to said one blank and having its downwardly-facing slots insertable in the upwardly-facing slots of said one blank with the upwardlyfacing slots of said one blank engaging the portions of said other blank intermediate its longitudinal fold line and its downwardly-facing slots, said cut-outs of said blanks when said blanks are in the assembled position forming a socket adapted to embracingly receive a globular element.
3. Asa new article of manufacture, an ornament made from at least two foldable blanks each fabricated of a flexible material, one of said blanks being in the form of a flat sheet and having a fold line extending along its longitudinal center line with a slot on each side of the longitudinal center line, the two slots of said one blank lying along the transverse center line thereof with each slot having an open end facing toward said longitudinal center line, said one blank having an arcuately-shaped cut-out on each side of its longitudinal center line intermediate said longitudinal center line and the adjacent one of said slots and extending along the transverse center line of said one blank, said one blank being bent upon itself along its fold line to an upright position with its slots in registry and having their open ends facing upwardly, the other of said blanks being in the form of a fiat sheet and having a fold line extending along the longitudinal center line with a slot on each side of and spaced from the longitudinal center line, the two slots of said other blank lying along the transverse center line with each slot having an open end facing away from the longi tudinal center line, said other blank having an arcuatelyshaped cut-out on each side of its longitudinal center line intermediate said longitudinal center line and the adjacent one of said slots and extending along the transverse center line of said other blank, said other blank being bent upon itself along its fold line to an upright position with its slots in registry and with the open ends of its slots facing downwardly, said other blank being arranged in criss-cross relation with respect to said one blank and havingits downwardly-facing slots insertable in the upwardly-facing slots of said one blank with the upwardlyfacing slots of said one blank engaging the portions of said other blank intermediate its longitudinal fold line and its downwardly-facing slots, said cut-outs of said blanks when said blanks are in the assemble position forming a socket adapted to embracingly receive a globular element.
