1 Claim.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in seats and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a small and compact portable seat for use in wild game hunting, sports events and the like.

Another important object of the present invention is to provide a seat construction including a vertically adjustable seat panel that is quickly and readily adjusted to accommodate users of various heights in a convenient manner.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a swivel stool including an upright and embodying novel and improved cleat means for engaging the ground to retain the upright in a substantially vertical position.

A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a seat construction that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is an elevational view of the present invention;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of Figure l taken substantially on the plane of section line 2-2 of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is an enlarged detail vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 3--3 of Figure 2; and,

Figure 4 is an enlarged detail vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 4-4 of Figure 2.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral I represents a tubular upright or post whose upper open end is reinforced and strengthened by a continuous flange I2.

A seat panel I4 is associated with the upright l0 and is secured to a base plate I6 by fasteners I8. An arm or tubular member 20 depends from the base plate I6 and enters the upper end of the upright l0.

A collar 22 embraces the arm 20 and includes a threaded opening 24 that receivably engages the threaded end of a substantially L-shaped screw 26. The threaded end of the screw 2B is provided with a conical tip 28 for selectively entering one of a plurality of longitudinally spaced recesses 30 in the arm 20 to retain the seat in an elevated position since the collar 22 is mounted for rotation on the flange l2.

The arm 20 can rotate in the. upright l0, however, in order to hold the arm 20 against rotation in the upright, there is provided a cotter pin 32 having its prongs bowed intermediate their ends. The prongs of the pin 32 are extended through registering openings 34 and 36 provided in the upright Il! and the arm 20. The pin 32 is yieldingly retained in the openings 34, 36 and is quickly and readily removed to permit rotation of the arm 20 within the upright l0.

Means is provided for retaining the upright in a substantially vertical position when the lower end of the upright is forced into the ground. This means comprises a pair of elongated angle iron cleat members 38 and 40 that are Secured together to form a substantially triangular anchor. The joined edges of the members 38, 40 are provided with registering recesses in which there is iixed a sleeve 42 that is slidable on the upright l0.

A transverse opening 44 is provided in the sleeve 42 for selectively registering with one of a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings 46 in the post I0. A cotter pin 48 enters the openings 46 to retain the sleeve 42 longitudinally adjustable on the upright I0.

The members 38, 40 are disposed transversely of the upright I0 and will enter the ground to steady the seat structure and to prevent over tipping thereof.

In View of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described as preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the.invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claim.

Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:

A swivel stool comprising a flat horizontal seat panel, a plate bolted to the undersurface of said seat panel, a vertical tube permanently xed at its upper end to the plate, a hollow upright receiving the lower end of the tube, a collar vertically adjustable on the tube and surrounding the tube, said collar resting against and being freely rotatable on the upper end of the upright,

removable interconnecting means between the upright and the tube for locking the tube against rotation in the upright, a sleeve sldably mounted on and surrounding the upright, said sleeve having a transverse opening, said upright having a plurality of vertically spaced transverse openings for selectively registering with the opening in the sleeve, a fastener extending through the opening in the sleeve and a selected one of the openings in the upright for adjusting the'sleeve vertically upon the upright, and a pair of vertically inclined, elongated plates xed to the upper end 0f the sleeve and having lower horizontal edges for penetrating the ground.
