Description
Patented Apr. 7, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE f I "2,633,635" nn t TRIMMER Samuel N; North, Asheville, 3N. 0. application May 31, 1949, SeriaLNoi 96,223
. 1 c im; (01. 30-4 This invention relates to hair trimmers.
An object of this invention is to provide a hair trimmer embody ng a separable holder and a double edge blade which will permit the trimming ofthe ends v0f the hair in addition tothe close cutting of the hair around the'edges.
Another object pf this invention is to provide a hair trimmer embodying a holder formed of face-abutting flat members having toothed-blade holding membersextending therefrom, with an improved means for locking the members together. v
A further object of this invention is to provide an improved holder for a double edge blade whereby the blade maybe stropped or honed.
"With the aboveand-other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawing and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing,
Figure l is a plan view of a hair trimmer constructed according to an embodiment of this invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2--2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is :a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is a fragmentary plan view of the inner end portion of the handle,
Figure 5 is a fragmentary plan view of an inner end portion of the keeper notch carried by one portion of the handle,
Figure 6 is a plan view of a blade stropping device constructed according to an embodiment of this invention,
Figure 7 is a detail side elevation of the device shown in Figure 6.
Referring to the drawing and first to Figures 1 to 5 inclusive, the numeral ||l designates generally a handle having disposed at the foward end thereof a blade holder generally designated as H. The handle [0 includes a body l2 which is shaped on the marginal edge portions thereof in a manner to conveniently fit into a hand, and the body l2 has extending from the rear thereof a finger |3 formed with a concave edge l4.
The body l2 includes one part I5 of the holder comprising a plate or flat member which is formed with spaced teeth l3 along one edge thereof, and a. second series of spaced teeth |1 along the opposite edge thereof. The handle [0 also includes a second body member l8 shaped similar to the body member l0, and provided at the rear portion thereof with a keeper notch I9 within which a locking lug20icarried by the for.- ward or inner end of the:fingerbisadapteditozrer leasably engage. r
The body I8 is formed at its forward portion with a blade clamping member 2| which provided with an elongated slot 22 extending length wise thereof, within-which an elongated locking member 23 which is fixed to the clamping member I5 is adapted to engage. The locking member 23 includes a lug 24 which engages overthe outer side of the clamping memberr2| atthe forward end of the locking member 23 so as tohold the clamping member ,Zl tightly a ainst the holder or clamping member IS.
The finger I3 is provided with a lockin lug 25 adapted to engage over the outersidegof the handle forming member I8, being positioned above the locking member 20 so as to hold the handle forming member l8 in face abutting relation to the handle forming member l2. The clamping member 2| is formed along one edge thereof with teeth 26 which are complementary to the teeth [6, and additional teeth 21 are disposed along the opposite edge of clamping member 2| and are complementary to the teeth IT.
A double edge razor blade 28 is adapted to engage between the two clamping members I5 and 2|, and one edge 29 of the blade 28 is adapted to project slightly beyond the outer ends of the teeth l826. The opposite edge 30 of the blade 28 is disposed inwardly from the outer ends of teeth |'|--2'|, these teeth being substantially longer than the teeth |6-2 6. The inwardly disposed edge 30 is designed for trimming the hair relatively long, whereas the edge 29 which projects slightly beyond the teeth |626, is designed for giving a relatively close trim.
Referring now to Figures 6 and '7, there is disclosed a holder for use in strapping or honing a razor blade such as a double edge blade. A holder comprising a handle generally designated as 3| is provided, which includes a pair of handle forming members 32 and 33 disposed in face abutting relation. The handle forming member 32 is relatively longer than the handle forming member 33 and an abutment 34 is formed on the handle forming member 32 against which the rear end of the handle forming member 33 is adapted to engage. The handle forming member 32 has a locking lug 42 projecting forwardly from the shoulder 34, and the handle forming member 33 is provided with a keeper notch 36 similar to keeper notch I9, within which the lug 42 is adapted to engage.
The holder 3| also includes a blade clamping member 31 integral with the handle forming member 32, and a blade clamping member 38 integral with the handle forming member 33. The clamping member 38 is provided with an elongated slot 39 through which a locking bar 40 carried by the clamping member 31 is adapted to engage. The locking member 40 projects forwardly beyond the forward end of slot 39, as indicated at H, so that the two clamping members 31 -28 may be firmly locked together.
- What I claim is: A hair trimmer comprising a pair of blade clamping members, each formed with teeth along the opposite longitudinal edges thereof, an elongated bar fixed to the inner face of one of said members and extending parallel with the length thereof, the other of said members having an elongated opening within which said bar engages, a locking lug carried by one end of said bar and engageable over the outer side of said other memher, an elongated handle projecting from each SAMUEL N.
