Description

Oct. 14, 1952 A. PANSEGRAU GREASE DISPENSER Filed March 22, 1949 In z'enlor Arthur Pansegrau Patented Oct. 14, 1952 GREASE DISPENSER H V I I H Arthur Pans'egrau, Marshalltown, Iowa- 1 Application March 22, 1949, Serial No. 82,7 16
The present invention relates tonew and use ful improvements in grease. dispensers and more particularly to a novel pressure means for forcing greaseuto a grease fitting.
An important object of the invention is toprovide a portable dispensing apparatus including a grease chamber having a piston working therein to discharge the grease, and providing a jack under the piston as a removable unit to place the grease in the chamber under a desired pressure.
A further object is toprovide spring means between the piston and jack placed under-tension by the'jack toholdv the grease under pressure while being dispensed and without necessitating constant operation of the jack.
A stillfurtherobject is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is efficient and reliable in operation, relatively inexpensiveto manufacture and otherwise well adapted forg the purposesfor which the same is intended.
Other'o'bjects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference "beinghad to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals referto like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view;
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on a line 33 of Figure 2, and
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on a line 44 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of my invention, the number 5 designates a cylindrically shaped tank which is positioned upright and closed at its bottom. The top of the tank is closed 'by a removable cover 6 secured in position by a bayonet slot connection I tightened by a partial turning movement of the cover in the usual manner. A gasket 8 is placed between cover 6 and the top of the tank.
A piston 9 provided with piston rings III has a working fit in tank 5 to form a grease chamber H in the upper portion of the tank which is filled with grease by removing cover 6.
The cover is provided with handles [2 to facilitate removing and replacing of the cover as well as for carrying the tank, and the cover is also provided with a dispensing hose 13; a pressure gauge l4; and a pressure relief valve I5.
A plurality of rods it are threaded in the un- 3 Claims. (Cl. 222-340) I derside of piston 9 and "extend downwardly therefrom and on which a bottom plate' l'l is slidable. The plate. isv retained on the "rods by nuts I8 threaded, onthe rods under, the plate.
A' coil spring I9 is positioned between piston 9 andplate l'l, and,compressed by an upward movement of the" plate tosubject grease in cham ber II to pressure due to compression of the spring I .w.
- A conventional type of manually operated "jack is positioned under plate l1 and is operated by a handle 2| projecting outwardly at'jone' side I of tank 'th b i p ning-22":ihremw-An annular flange 23 is secured to the iinnerfw'all of the tank 5 above the opening 22 'tolimit downward movement of they p'latejll thereby pefrmidis-g the "'3' ask 2 p to o inserted and removed 9 v V on top of tanki to close the'c'hamb er,"and"'ack wardlyltlci compress the gre'aseiinitliec spring 19 under compression whereupon .may then be dispensed through'h' I 9- -will continueto force'thepist from the tank.
In thebperation of the device; the fehamber H is filled with grease; cover fifsec'ured tightly 2B operated to force plate vI! 'andipis'to The upward movement of. plate ll a ls grease fitting J in the usual manner During the dispensing operatidn retain the grease under g I period after the operation '0 jack"! llfha'scea'sed.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. cordingly deemed unnecessary.
It-is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended'by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, claimed as new is:
1. A grease dispenser comprising a cylindrical tank having a cover on one end thereof, 'a grease what is dispensing conduit attached to said cover and communicating with said tank, a piston slidably received in said tank and forming a grease chamber therein between said piston and said cover, a plate slidably received in said tankbelow said piston, a coil spring disposed between said piston and said plate, a plurality of circumferentially A more detailed description is ac- 3 spaced guiding rods attached to the under surface of said piston equidistant from the center thereof, said rods extending longitudinally of said tank and embracing the convolutions of said coil spring internally thereof to guide said spring between said wall and said rods during the expansion and contraction of said spring, said plate having bores therein slidably receiving said rods, lockingrm-eans-von' the lower end -ofsaid rods underlying-said: plate to limit displacement of said plate relative to said piston, elevating means underlying said plate selectively urging said plate upwardly to compress said spring, sliding of said plate toward said piston being unobstructed=ex- 3.
