Each corner of the inner door panel Ii is also provided with a centrally apertured bracket 20 of generally triangular outline (Figureil) secured to adjacent corner marginal portions I4of the panel I i by spot welding, as at 2I. The inner panel II is also provided with spaced inwardly dished portions 22 which are apertured for registry with the apertures in the brackets I8 and 20 to receive a screw 23 therethrough. The screw 23 is threadedly reand I3. This marginal spacing 24, by preventing surface contact between the panels, materially aids in reducing heat transfer between the same.
An interiordoorstifener plate 25 is positioned between the panels II and I2 and is secured to the inner surface of the inner panel II by suitable means, as by spot welding, as at 29a. (Figure 1). The stiffener plate 25 is generally diamondshaped in outline and is secured to opposing mar- The stifener plate is provided with an inner, generally cylindrical flange 2,6 extending into closelyr spaced relation to panel I2, the flange 26 being .substantially larger in diameter than the anges I and I1 of the members Il and I2, respectively.
An insulation batt 2'I is disposed in the interior of the door I0, the batt being partially confined between the stiffener plate 25 and the outer wall I2iand partially confined between the inner and outer panels I I and I2 at the corners of the door where the stifiener plate 25 is cut away.
An insulatedwindow construction 28 of generally circular contour is provided in the door ID to permit observation therethrough, the window construction 28 comprising essentially a pair of circular, convex plates 29 and 30 joined at their peripheral margins to denne a hollow evacuated interior 3I. The window construction 28, as best shown in Figure 2, is confined within the door I0 'by peripheral' contact with the ilange 26 of the stifener plate25, preventing verticalmovement of the window 28, and the cooperating opposed Iange edges I5a andY IIa of the panels II and I2,
which contact the plates 29 and 30, respectively,
adjacent their marginal edges, to prevent longitudinal movement'of the window 28.
VThe outer doorpanel I2 carries a handle 32 secured thereto by suitable 'means as by screws 33 threadedly retained by the handle and extendingthrough the outer panel I2. The stiflener plate 25 carries in each lower corner portion a door mounting bracket 34 secured thereto by suitable means, as by spot welding.
The advantages residing in the improved insulated door construction of the present invention will be evident to those skilled in the art. The positioning of the observation port or win- Ldow 28 within the door construction by the cooperation of the inner 'and outer panels II and I2, respectively, and the stiffener plate 25 prevents both the lateral and vertical movements of the window. Also, the marginal air gap 24 betweeny the inner and outer panels eiectively reducesheat transfer Vthrough the door Yconstruction.
It will, of course, be understood that various details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and it is, therefore, not the purpose to limit the patent granted hereon otherwise than necessitated by the scope of the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
l. An insulating door construction comprising a pair of cooperating door panels secured together to define an air space therebetween, said panels having outer marginal flanges spaced to provide an outer marginal air gap therebetween and inner marginal flanges inturned toward each other dening aligned window openings, said inner anges having spaced terminal edges, an additional plate secured to one of said panels and having an inturned ange spaced outwardly from the spaced inner flangef'edges of said panels, and a unitary window between said panels rigidly secured in position by contact of its outer edge portions about the complete periphery of said window with the flange of said additional plate and by contact of marginal window portionsadjacent to and eoextensive with said window edge portions with the opposed flange edges of said panels.

An insulated door comprising an inner door panel having an inwardly extending bracket, an outer door panel also having an inwardly extending bracket for abutment with said first-mentioned bracket, means carried by one of said door panels and extending through said brackets to maintain the same inY abutment to retain said panels in spaced apart relation, facing outer marginal flanges on said panels with the ange-of said outer door panel overlying the outer flange of the inner door panel vin spaced relationthereto to provide an insulating air gap, said panels having circular openings defined by facing inner marginal annular flanges having spaced apart terminal annular edges, an interior stiiening plate secured to one of said panels and having an inner annular flange concentric with and spaced radially outward from the inner vflanges of said panels, and a circular insulating window construction having its outer periphery abutting the ange of said stifener plate and having exterior marginal portions radially inward from saidl outer periphery in contact with said facing terminal annular edges of said inner marginal annular flanges, whereby the cooperating flanges of said panels and said stiffener plate prevent both lateral and vertical movement of said window.

An insulated door comprising an inner door panel having an inwardly extending bracket, an outer door panel also having an inwardly extending bracket'for abutment with said first-mentioned bracket, means carried by one of said door panels and extending through said brackets to maintain the same in abutment to retain said panels in spaced apart relation, said panels hav.- ing aligned openings defined by facing inner marginal ilanges having spaced apart terminal edges, an interior s tifening plate secured to one of said panels and having an inner flange generally parallel with and spaced outwardly from the inner flanges of said panels, and a unitary insulating window construction having its outer periphery abutting the flange of said stiffener plate and having exterior marginal portions inwardly from said outer periphery in contact with said facing terminal edges of said inner mar- 4. An insulated door construction comprising a. generally rectangular outer door panel and a generally rectangular inner door panel, overlapping marginal flanges' on said door panels, a stiffener plate interposed between said panels and rigidly secured to one of said panels closely'adjacent to the central portion of the marginal flange of said one panel, an inwardly extending bracket secured at each corner of said inner door panel, an inwardly extending bracket at each corner of said outer door panel for abutment with vsaid rst-mentioned bracket, means carried by one of said door panels and extending through said brackets to maintain the same in abutment to retain said panels in spaced apart relation without interference of said stiffener plate, said panels having inner marginal flanges inturned toward each other defining aligned window openings, saidfinner iianges having spaced aligned terminal edges, an additional plate secured to one of said panels and having an inturned flange spaced outwardly from the spaced ange edges of said` panels, and a unitary window between said panels rigidly secured in position by contact of its outer edge portions about the complete periphery of said Window with the flange of said additional plate and by contact of marginal window portions adjacent to and coextensive with said window edge portions'with the opposed flange edges of said panels.
