A do/ph/s E, F recheffe INVENTOR. Q0626 w BY and Patented Aug. 31, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Canad Application April 20, 1953, Serial No. 349,916
1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in sleeping garments, specifically, pajamas, and the principal object of the invention is to prevent the frequently experienced discomfort which arises from the tendency of the leg members of pajamas to be drawn or creep upwardly on the legs while sleeping.
The above object is achieved by providing the leg members of the pajamas with resilient foot receiving loops or stirrups, whereby the leg members are sustained in their proper position.
Some of the advantages of the invention reside in its simplicity of construction, in its eflicient and dependable operation, and its adaptability for use with pajamas of different sizes and types.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevational view partly in section, showing the invention in use;
Figure 2 is a sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line 2-2 in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a cross sectional detail, taken substantially in the plane of the line 3-3 of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view illustrating a modified embodiment of the invention.
Like characters of reference are employed to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, more particularly to Figures 1, 2 and 3, the general reference character l designates the customary leg member of a pair of pajamas, which leg memberis open at the bottom thereof and has secured to the inside thereof at a point spaced above its lower end, a loop l2.
An openable clamp 14, formed from resilient wire, or the like, has one arm Ma thereof extended through the loop l2, while its other arm Mb extends through a loop I6 formed at the free end of a resilient band IS.
The loop IE preferably in the form of a metallic clamp, or the like, is provided with inturned ears 20 which frictionally engage and grip both free end portions of the band B, the free end portions of the band being disposed in superposed relation and anchored to the eye member 16, as is clearly shown in Figure 3.
The band l8 depends from the leg member ID of the pajamas and constitutes a stirrup for receiving the foot 22 of the user as shown in Figure 1, whereby the leg member of the pajamas will be prevented from riding upwardly on the leg.
It is to be noted that the stirrup or band 18 is attached only to one side of the leg member i0 and when the foot 22 is disengaged from the stirrup, the latter, by virtue of its elasticity, is retracted upwardly into the leg member 10 as shown by the dotted lines 24 in Figure 1, so that it is not visible.
When the garment is washed, or the like, the stirrup l8 may be completely removed by simply disengaging the portion lb of the clasp [4 from a hook Hid formed on the portion Ma, as indicated by the dotted lines 26 in Figure 2.
Referring now to the modified embodiment of the invention shown in the accompanying Figure 4, the resilient band or stirrup 30 is of an endless form and is threaded through a loop 32 provided on a clasp 34, the latter having a pair of spring pressed, opposing jaws 36, 38 which may be readily applied to or removed from the lower endportion of the pajama leg member l0.
From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
The combination of a sleeping garment including a leg member having an open lower end, a loop secured to the inner surface at one side of said leg member at a point spaced upwardly from the lower end of the latter, a clasp separably attached to said loop, and a loop-shaped foot-receiving stirrup of resilient material connected to said clasp, said stirrup having an unstretched length that is less than the distance between the point of connection of the clasp and stirrup and the bottom edge of the leg member, said stirrup initially being fully contained in said leg member by the resiliency thereof, but being projectable through the lower end of the leg member by the foot of a user.
