cJsep/Z 58 2053 6 By a r a Q TENT Filed May 20, 1949 Oct. 31, 1950 Patented Oct. 31, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TENT Joseph F. Hoff, West Allis, Wis.
Application May 20, 1949, Serial No. 94,386
4 1' Claim.
The present invention relates to a tent and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.
Generally there is provided a tent construction wherein an outer tent cover of fireproof material is provided and an inner tent of lighter material yet of fireproof construction is provided in parallel relation to the outer tent to thereby provide an insulating space of dead air between the outer and inner tents. In the form of invention illustrated in the drawings, the tent is shown of pyramidal construction and it will be seen that the side walls of the inner tent portion extend downwardly in parallel relation to the side walls of the outer tent portion. Novel means is provided for attaching the outer and inner portions of the tent.
It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a tent of the character set forth which is simple in construction and operation and yet eifective and efficient in use.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a tent construction wherein effective insulation against weather is provided.
A further object of the invention is the provision of novel means for interconnecting the inner and outer portions of a double-walled tent construction.
Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification taken in conjunction with the drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, partly broken away, of an embodiment of the invention,
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view thereof, and
Figures 3 and 4 are fragmentary sectional views, greatly enlarged, illustrating certain details of construction.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, there is shown therein a tent having an outer portion i of conventional fireproof material and an inner tent portion ll of lighter material but also treated to cause the same to be fireproof. In the tent shown in the drawing there is provided side walls l2 and it which are extensions of the outer and inner walls in and II, respectively.
At spaced positions upon the inner side of the wall ii) there is afiixed by stitching l4 strips 15 of canvas which extend through aligned openings it in the inner wall ll.
Adjacent the openings it there is affixed to the inner side of the inner wall ll straps l1, likewise formed of canvas and the outer ends of the straps l5 and H are joined together by stitching and an eyelet 18, preferably formed of brass, ex-
tends through the straps l5 and I1 adjacent the outer ends thereof.
It will be seen that a space 19 is provided between the outer and inner walls Ill and H and that the tent is provided with the conventional guys 20 attached to stakes 2| and that the walls I2 are likewise provided with guys 22 attached to stakes 23. A tent pole 24 of conventional character extends upwardly through the conventional squared opening 25 in the upper end of the tent and a metallic top may be provided for the upper end of the tent for the passage therethrough of a chimney, or the like.
In operation, it will be apparent that the inner wall ll may be attached to the outer wall Ill through the medium of the straps l5 and I! which are interconnected by means of the eyelets l8. Tent ropes may be passed through the various eyelets [8 which may also be utilized for the support of clothes lines for the drying of clothes within the tent or for the support of mosquito netting or the like. It will also be apparent that the space I9 constitutes a deadair space which provides insulation whereby heat may be retained within the tent during cold weather and whereby heat may be kept from permeating the tent during hot weather.
While but one form of the invention has been shown and described herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the inventionvor the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A device of the character. described comprising an outer wall of fireproof fabric, an inner wall of fireproof fabric having a plurality of apertures therein, straps affixed to the inner side of the outer wall and extending through the apertures in the inner wall, straps afiixed to the inner side of the inner wall adjacent the apertures and an eyelet connecting the outer ends of each outer wall strap with its adjacent inner wall strap.
