This invention relates to improvements in chalk holders.
An object of the invention is to provide an imf 'proved chalk holder which will comprise-concentrically disposed inner and outer barrels, said inner barrel being adapted to support a piece of 'chalk, and said outer barrel providing a-handle whereby rotation of the inner barrel within the outer barrel in opposite directions will advance or retract the chalk.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved chalk holder comprising an internally threaded tapered barrel forming a handle, and an inner barrel forming a chalk holder rotatably received in said handle, together with a U-shape screw follower disposed in said chalk supporting barrel having threads engageable with the threads in said handle, whereby relative rotation between said barrels in one direction will advance the chalk for writing, and rotation in the opposite direction will retract the chalk within the handle.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved chalk holder comprisin an internally threaded outer barrel or handle, and an inner chalk holding barrel disposed within said handle for rotation, and having oppositely disposed longitudinally extending guide slots formed through its body, and resilient chalk holding means supported in its outer end, together with a, threaded follower nut disposed transversely of said chalk holder having opposite threaded portions extending through said slots and being operatively engageable with the internal threads in the outer barrel or handle.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved construction of chalk holder which will be highl efficient in operation, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as th description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the improved chalk holder;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the improved chalk holder;
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the improved chalk holder;
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view through the improved chalk holder;
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line I--5 of Figure 4;
Figure 6 is an exploded view of th improved .chalk holder, and

Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate correspondin parts. l a
In carrying out the invention, there is provided the and an improved chalk holder including a hollow threaded plastic barrel I forming a handle, the same being internally threaded as at 2, and
formed with an enlarged annular recess 3 in its lower end.
An inner hollow plastic barrel 4 is externally threaded on its lower end as at 5, and is formed with the oppositely disposed, longitudinal guide slots 6 and I through its wall for purposes hereinafter described.
An enlarged hollow operating head 8 is integrally formed upon the upper end of the inner barrel 4, and is formed with a laterally extending recess directly above the guide slot I in which the resilient chalk engaging and holding arm 9 is disposed. The upper end of the arm 9 is formed with a flat chalk engaging surface In extending into the bore through the head 8, while the lower end of said arm 9 is embedded in the inner end of the plastic head 8.
A U-shape nut follower l I is formed with laterally extending oppositely disposed ofiset thread engaging teeth l2, and the parallel arms of said nut follower l I are adapted to extend through the slots 6 and I in the inner barrel 4 for advancing and retracting the nut follower I I as the barrels I and 2 are rotated relative to each other.
An internally threaded metal locking washer I3 is threaded upon the screw threads 5 on the lower end of the inner barrel 4 after a piece of chalk (not shown) is inserted in the inner barrel 4 from its lower end, to be engaged by the U-shape nut follower II which will be slid into position through the slots 6 and 1 to lie below the chalk, said washer holding the parts and the chalk in their proper assembled position.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that there has been devised and provided a highly eflicient form of chalk holder which will be made preferably from plastic, the same being highly eflicient and ornamental, and so arranged that after a piece of chalk has been inserted within the holder, the hands of the user need not touch the chalk again until it has been completely used up.
While the preferred embodiment of the instant invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resortedto'without departure from the spirit of the V invention.
Having thus described my invention 'what I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
