UNITED STATES PATENT GFFICE.
" CHARLES L; MOSS, OF OARTHAGE, MISSISSIPPI.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,900, dated June 20, 1882.
' Application filed January 21, 1882. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES L. Moss, of Carthage, in the county of Lealre, and in the State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Plows and Attachments for Plows and I do hereby declare that'the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
This invention has for its objects to provide an improved plow and attachments therefor, as
will be more fully hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claim. These objects I attain by the devices illustrated in the acco'rnpanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 indicates a perspective. view of my improved plow; Fig. 2 ,a detached side elevalion of a portion of the plow-standard, showing the landside, point, mold-board, and heelpiece in place. Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal sectional view of the plow.
The letter A indicates the beam cf the plow, which is of the ordinary construction, and B the standard, which is provided with a seat, 0, for the beam, the two being securely fastened together by means of the bolts D. The said standard is curved and extends forwardly at its lower end, the rear being provided with an extension, E, to which the rear of the heelpiece F is secured by means of a screw-bolt, G. The forward extremity of the standard,'on its upper side, is recessed, as indicated by the letter H,its point being beveled, as indicated-by the letter I, so as to form a secure seat for the undercut recessed portion of the point K, as indicated in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
Theletter Lindicates the mold-board, which is curved to correspond with the forward curved edge of the standard. The said board is provided with an upward extension, M, which is held to the standard by means of the forward belt, which secures the standard to the beam. The lower end of the mold-board abuts against a shoulder, N, on the upper surface of the point, as indicated.
The letter P indicates a shoulder against which the shoulder R on the heel-piece abuts,
and S a bolt by means of which the heel-piece, point, and mold-board are secured to the point of the standard. The heel-piece, atits forward end, projects downwardly and forwardly and abuts against the rear of the plow-point, which also extends forwardly and downwardly toward its extremity.
T is the landside, which is attached to the standard by means of bolts U passing through suitable apertures in the standard and said side, theapertures in the side being countersunk, so that the bolt-heads may be flush with the outer face of said landside when in place. All of the bolts are detachable, so that the parts may be removed and replaced by the attachments when desired.
The mold-board of the plow is braced by a bracket, F, as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings in dotted lines.
The letter Gr indicates the handles of the plow, which are pivoted to the beam, and H a spring-bar passing through a slot in the pivoted cross bar I, and adjustably secured therein, by means of which the height of the handles can be conveniently adjusted.
It is evident that attachments of other descriptions and various sizes may be provided and employed in connection with the plow in the same manner as the parts above mentioned.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
In combination with the plow-beam A, the curved standard B, having secured to its low er end a detachable point provided with an abutment, N, the curved mold-board L, resting against the abutment at its lower end, and provided with an extension, M, at its upper end, adapted to be secured to the standard by thebolt D, and the detachable heel-piece secured by the bolts S and G, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature,in
presence of two witnesses, this 5th day of J anuary, 1882.
I O. L. MOSS. Witnesses A. F. HENKEL, E. A. HAMBLEN.
