CLOTHES-CLAMP.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 25,695, dated October 4, 1859.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHAPMAN WARNER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Clothes- Clamp, and do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof.

The accompanying drawings make a part of said description.

The nature of my invention consists in forming a clothes clamp by means of two buttons a pin with a head and a spiral spring.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.

Figure l, is a perspective view, in which A, represents a circular button permanently attached to a pin B.

C, represents a button of similar form to A with a hole in it sufficiently large to allow it to move freely on pin B which should be made as much longer than the thickness of button C as is necessary to allow it to open sufliciently wide to admit whatever is to be clamped between the two buttons, and also a space occupied by a spiral spring D, which in constructing is first put on the pin, then the button C and lastlypthe button A. The button C should be slightly larger than A for the purpose of enabling the person who uses it to hold the button C between the thumb and second linger in such a manner that the first linger being pressed upon the head of the pin B it can be opened as far as to encompass or clamp the garment or whatever else is to be held thereby.

Fig. l represents a button of a circular form with a hole in the center, but I contemplate varying the'form as in Fig. 2. Some may be oblong with a hole in the center or with a hole near one end. In either case the effect will be the same in `the operation-to wit-the pin passing through the button C, and the garment or whatever else is to be secured thereby being placed or put between the two buttons A and C at the point of the greatest distance from the pin produces the effect of wedging the pin fast in the hole with greater or less power in proportion to the pressure upon the buttons. The object of the spiral spring D, it will be clearly seen, will be to assist in holding the button C, secure in its proper place.

I-Iaving thus described my improved clothes clamp what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure Letters Patent is- The mode of securing between the buttons A and C, the garment, or whatever else may be placed between them, by means of the binding or wedging effect of the pin B in the hole of button C, with the spiral spring D as and for the purpose specified.
