3 BY Mpmqfim Patented Sept. 25, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a novel basic dress pattern sheet from which a large number of different styles of dresses may be quickly made with a minimum waste of material and without requiring a high order of dressmaking skill.
The exact nature of the invention will be apparent from the following description when considered with the accompanying drawing, in
which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a dress pattern sheet embodying the present invention;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the pattern for the back of a dress which has been cut from the pat tern sheet of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the pattern for the front of a dress which has been cut from the pattern sheet of Figure 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 indicates a suitable rectangular sheet of material having two substantially similar patterns F, and B, respectively for the front and for the back of a dress, marked thereon.
Each pattern includes a bodice portion 6 and a rectangular skirt portion 1 adapted to be left integrally joined at 8 along the central portions of their contiguous lower and upper edges, respectively. Each pattern also has straight transverse cutting lines 9 along which the remaining portions of the upper edge of the skirt portion are adapted to be cut or severed, as at l0, from the remaining end portions of the lower edge of the bodice portion and from the portions ll of the sheet at the sides of said bodice portion. Each pattern further has a plurality of spaced bottom sleeve and side bodice seam lines H for different sizes. Neck contour lines l3 or I3, and shoulder and top sleeve seam lines M are provided for the bodice portion, and these lines of the two patterns are adjacent so that, when the two patterns are cut apart, portions l5 of the sheet between the lines [4 are provided which may be used, along with the portions II, for collars, cuffs, facings and pockets made according to separate patterns. Perforations or like marks [6 to 24 and [6 to 24' are provided along the lines 9 which serve as guides for forming pleats in the skirt portion of the dress. Other lines 25 and 26 are provided to serve as guides for forming darts in the adjacent edges of the skirt and bodice portions of the dress.
2 as required in making certain styles of dress skirts.
The patterns may be provided on a paper or like sheet, or they may be provided directly on the 'fabric from which the dress is made. Directions for making different styles of dress by use of the patterns will accompany the pattern sheet. and advantages of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art without reciting such directions herein.
What is claimed as new is:
A dress pattern sheet comprising a rectangular sheet having two substantially similar patterns respectively for the front and for the back of a dress marked thereon, each pattern including a bodice portion and a rectangular skirt portion adapted to be left integrally joined along the central portions of their contiguous lower and upper edges, respectively, each pattern having straight transverse cutting lines along which the remaining portions of the upper edge of the skirt portion are adapted to be severed from the remaining end portions of the lower edge of the bodice portion and from portions of the sheet at the sides of said bodice portion, each pattern further having a plurality of spaced bottom sleeve and side bodice seam lines for diiierent sizes, and neck contour and shoulder and top sleeve seam lines for the bodice portion, the last named lines of the two patterns being adjacent and there being marks along the transverse cutting lines of each pattern serving as guides for forming pleats in the skirt portion, and lines serving as guides for forming darts in the adjacent edges of the skirt and bodice portions, each dress portion having longitudinal and transverse cutting lines for use in partially and wholly reducing the width of said portion and for use in dividing the same horizontally into equal sections.
