CATCHLESS PULL TOY Filed Oct. 14, 1947 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEYS Patented June 26, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CATCHLESS PULL TOY Jackson Elmer, New Orleans, La.
Application October 14, 1947, Serial No. 779,715
This invention relates to pull toys.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a pull toy which will not catch upon the furniture of a room or upon any other raised article with which the toy may become encountered and wherein the toy will be formed of semi-spherical hollow bodies with the edges being weighted to keep the toy upright.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a pull toy, which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to pull and attractive to a child.
For a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the toy embodying the features of the present invention,
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view,
Fig. 3 is a sectional View, in elevation, taken on line 3-3 of Fig.2,
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4--4 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the figures, my toy comprises semi-spherical hollow bodies l and II arranged so that their edges oppose each other but spaced slightly from one another so as to permit the extensions into the bodies of a pull link l2 which is connected to a transverse axle l3 extending between the bodies and attached to the bodies at its respective outer ends. Washers M are used for retaining the bodies l0 and II against displacement on the ends of the axle and the ends of the axle are upset as indicated at I5 to prevent the outward displacement of the hollow bodies from the axles.
The outer washer l4 and the upset head is contained within a depression I 6 in the center of the hollow bodies.
The edge of each hollow body is rolled over as indicated at I! and may contain weighted material in order that the toy will be held upright when being pulled. By virtue of the bodies being of spherical construction and the ends of the axle being confined within depressions of the hollow bodies, there are no extensions on the toy which will catch upon furniture or other articles within the room of a house or with growth out of doors where the child may be playing with the toy. Connected between the inwardly rolled edges of each hollow body is a transverse member H! for 1 Claim. (Cl. 46-220) supporting the shaft l3, to the axle there is connected the link l2 which has a loop IS on each end of the same. One loop will be extended about the axle l3 and to the other loop a pull chain or string may be connected.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
I claim:
A pull toy comprising two semi-spherical hollow bodies arranged with their edges opposing one another, an axle extending between the bodies to connect them together, the edges of the hollow bodies being weighted whereby to retain the toy upright, and a pull member extending from the axle shaft and through space between the edges of the hollow bodies, said hollow bodies havin depressions at the locations through which the shaft is extended, said shaft being upset on its end and this upset portion lying within the depression so that the shaft ends will not project beyond the exterior surface of the hollow bodies so as to catch upon furniture or the like when the toy is being operated, and said edges of the hollow bodies being rolled inwardly, a transverse member extending between the opposite sides of and connected to and between the rolled edges of each hollow body and said shaft extending through the transverse members whereby said shaft is supported by the same and washers on the ends of said shaft inwardly and outwardly of said depressions.
JACKSON ELMER.
