and also as a source of supply for the shaving cream to the massage surface of the applicator.

An object of the invention is to provide an improved structure which will massage the surface to which the applicator is applied and at the same. time work up the soap cream into a lather.

A further object of the invention is to provide a port in the applicator for the shaving cream which. is self-sealing so that when not in use the contents of the collapsible tube are not exposed to the atmosphere.

A further object of the invention is to provide an applicator constructed from a material such as soft rubber with undulations therein so that it may also function as a brush without any of the disadvantages from the sanitary viewpoint of the usual bristle brush.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a construction which is very economical in that there is no waste of the shaving cream since only the exact quantities used are dispensed.

A still further object is to eliminate the usual waste incident when shaving cream is applied by hand and also avoids the messiness due to such method of applying shaving cream.

With the above and other objects in view which will become apparent from the detailed description below the new and improved massage applicator is shown in the drawings in which:

Fig. l is a side elevational view showing the applicator attached to a collapsible tube.

Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the applicator with a partial showing of the collapsible tube.

Fig. 3 is a sectional View taken on section line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the massage applicator.

In the drawings similar reference characters apply to like parts in the various views.

A collapsible tube 5 of the usual type containing a source of supply such as shaving cream has a threaded nipple 6 from which the usual cap has been removed and replaced by the massage applicator indicated generally at 1.

The applicator I is preferably constructed of soft rubber and is moulded in the shape shown in the drawings with a downwardly extending 4 Claims. (01. 128-65) projection 8 which contains a threaded socket 9 designed to be screwed upon the nipple 6 so as to make a tight fit therewith. Extending upwardly fora short distance from the socket 9 is a slot H) which is relatively wide' and the slot H1 in turn communicates with a narrower slot H. The slot Ii as shown in Fig. 5 extends throughout the greater portion of the massage surface i2 of the applicator at substantially the longitudinal center thereof.

The-massage surface i 2 of the applicator extends at a slight angle approximately 20 to 35 to the longitudinal axis of the collapsible tube and the socket 9 of the applicator. The surface 12 is also formed with a plurality of undulations or ribs l3 as is clearly apparent from Fig. 2; In thedrawings the ribs l3 are spaced from one another by the grooves I4 and the edges are all shown as being right angular. However it is obvious that the configuration of the ribs I3 and the grooves it may be modified in various ways in order to accomplish the functions desired. If desired all the edges may be rounded and the depth of the grooves and the length of the ribs may be smaller or greater than that shown provided the desired massaging action is obtained.

Also the projection 8 which does not enter into the massaging action may be constructed of somewhat harder rubber or other material thereby securing a better closure between the applicator and the collapsible tube.

In use the user grasps the collapsible tube 5 as shown in Fig. 6 with the massaging surface I2 in alignment with the surface to which the applicator is applied and by slightly compressing the tube 5 shaving cream is extruded through the nipple 6 into the recess i0 and then spreads out in the slot l i throughout substantially the entire length of the applicator. From such point the shaving cream is applied to the surface to be lathered and at the same time such surface is massaged by the ribs l2 and the shaving cream worked into a lather. The entire operation is carried out without wasting any of the shaving cream or having the cream applied to surfaces where it is not desired. Upon release of pressure feed of the shaving cream is stopped and then the side walls of the slot ii collapse and seal the contents of the tube 5 from the atmosphere.

I claim:

1. A massage and cream applicator adapted to be secured to the discharge nozzle of a collapsible tube containing a supply of shaving cream comprising a substantially rectangular head portion of soft rubber capable of maintaining substantially its shape during use having undulations extending transversely of the major axis of said head portion, said undulations being flexible to secure a massaging action, said head portion having a feed slot extending along said axis communicating with said undulations, said head portion having a harder portion thereon and means in said harder portion for securing said head firmly to said tube with said feed slot in communication with said nozzle,

A massage and cream applicator adapted to be secured to the discharge nozzle of a collapsible tube containing a supply of shaving cream comprising a substantially rectangular head portion of soft rubber capable of maintaining substantially its shape during use having a series of flexible ribs forming grooves extending transversely of the major axis of said head portion, said head portion having a slot therein extending parallel to said axis in communication with said grooves, a projection upon said head portion of harder material, means upon said projection for securing said head portion to said discharge nozzle and said head portion having a second slot therein of less width than said first mentioned slot interconnecting said first mentioned slot and said nozzle.

A massage and cream applicator adapted to be secured to the discharge nozzle of a collapsible tube containing a supply of shaving cream comprising a substantially rectangular head portion of soft rubber capable of maintaining substantially its shape during use having a series of flexible ribs forming grooves extending transversely of the major axis of said head portion, said head portion having a slot therein extending parallel to said axis in communication with said grooves,

a projection upon said head portion of harder material, a threaded socket in said projection for securing said head portion to said discharge nozzle and said head portion having a second slot therein interconnecting said first mentioned slot and said nozzle.

A massage and cream applicator adapted to be secured to the discharge nozzle of a collapsible tube containing a supply of shaving cream comprising a substantially rectangular head portion of soft rubber capable of maintaining substantially its shape during use having a series of flexible ribs forming grooves extending transversely of the major axis of said head portion and at an angle to the longitudinal axis of said collapsible tube, said head portion having a slot therein extending parallel to said axis in communication with said grooves, a projection upon said head portion of harder material, means upon said projection for securing said head portion to said discharge nozzle and said head portion having a second slot therein of less Width than said first mentioned slot interconnecting said first mentioned slot and said nozzle.
