CURTAIN STRETCHER Filed Feb. 18, 1948 Mary He lu INVENTOR.
Patented May 1, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 6 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in curtain stretchers, and more particularly to the provision of a collapsible curtain stretching frame together with meansfor adjustably holding a pair of curtain stretching bars at the sides thereof and connecting the upper and lower ends of a curtain to the bars whereby the curtain may be stretched in the frame without the use of pins or similar fastening devices usually provided on a curtain stretching frame for hooking the curtains thereon.
.An important object of the the invention is to -provide a horizontally extensible curtain stretch- :ing frame in which a curtain may be stretched .in a horizontal position in accordance with the length of the curtain and in which the curtain may be adjusted vertically in the frame and turned on a horizontal axis to more effectively expose the curtain to the drying action of the A further object of the invention is to provide supported for simultaneously drying a large number of curtains therein.
Another object is to provide an apparatus of this character of simple and practical construction, which is strong and durable, eflicient and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational View;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numerals 5 and 6 designate a pair of posts, preferably of square-shape in cross section, and supported in an upright position by a suitable base structure I.
Upper and lower extensible horizontal bars 8 and 9' are connected at their ends to the respective posts, each bar being composed of a pair of extensible sections If! and H, the section I!) having a collar l2 suitably secured thereto and I h providedwith a pin'l3 for selective engagement in openings I 4 in the section II of the bar. The collar I2 embraces the overlapping ends of both the section [0 and H of the bar.
Each post 5 and 6 is provided with vertically spaced apart openings IS in which bolts and wing nuts 16 are selectively received. A bar I! is rotatably carried at the inner end of the bolt It at the central portion of the bar and at each end of the bar is an eye bolt l8 with theeye 19' thereof extending inwardly from the bar and in which a curtain'rod 20 is received.
The bar I'I and curtain rod 20 provide a curtain holder at the inner side of each of the posts 5 and 6 whereby to support a curtain 2| in a horizontal position by inserting the curtain rod 20 through the casing 22 at the ends of the curtain.
In the use of the invention, the posts 5 and 6 may be adjusted relative to each other to an approximate size of a curtain to be stretched therein and the curtain rods 20 are inserted in the casings at the ends of a curtain and rods 20 then placed in eyes l9 of bars I! and the wing nails on bolts l6 tightened to pull the curtain taut. The curtain holding rod I! may be turned on bolts IE to swing the curtain vertically to effectively expose the same to the drying action of the sun.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain ,changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A curtain stretcher comprising a pair of posts, upper and lower bars connected to said posts, and a curtain holder carried by each post for engaging the ends of a curtain to hold the curtain in a horizontal position between the posts, said curtain holder comprising a bar secured to the post, and a curtain rod supported by the bar in spaced parallel relation thereto and positioned in a casing at one edge of a curtain supported between the holders.
2. A curtain stretcher comprising a pair of posts, upper and lower bars connected to said posts, and a curtain holder carried by each post for engaging the ends of a curtain to hold the curtain in a horizontal position between the posts, said curtain holder comprising inner and outer spaced parallel bars, said inner bar being engaged in a casing at one edge of a curtain, means connecting the inner and outer bars to each other, and adjustable means connecting the outer bar to an adjacent post for stretching the curtain between the posts.
3. A curtain stretcher comprising a pair of posts upper and lower bars connected to said posts, and a curtain holder carried by each post for engagin the ends of a curtain to hold the curtain in a horizontal position between the posts, said curtain holder comprising inner and outer spaced parallel bars, means carried by the outer bar connecting the same to one of the posts for vertical swinging movement on the post, and a pair of screw eyes carried by said outer bar and supporting the inner bar, the curtain having a casing at its edge receiving said inner bar.
4. A curtain stretcher comprising a pair of posts, upper and lower bars connected to said posts, and a curtain holder carried by each post for engaging the ends of 'a' curtain to hold the curtain in a horizontal position between the posts, said curtain holder comprising inner and outer spaced parallel bars, said "inner bar being received in a casing at the adjacent end of the curtain, and means connecting the outer bar to a post for vertical swinging movement as well as for adjustment toward and away from the post to stretch the curtain.
5. A curtain stretcher comprising a pair of posts, horizontal bars connecting the posts to each other, and a curtain holder carried by each post and comprising a pair of spaced parallel bars vertically swingable on the posts and horizontally adjustable as a unit relative to the posts.
6. A curtain stretcher comprising a pair of posts, horizontal bars connecting the posts to each other, and a curtain holder carried by each post and comprising a pair of spaced parallel bars, a bolt and wing nut connecting the central portion elf one of said parallel bars to an adjacent post for vertical swinging movement of the bar, and means deta-chably connecting the pair of parallel bars to each other.
