In referring to the drawing, it will be apparent that I make use of a suitable glass, or other container which may be in the form of a bottle I of desired capacity for holding a suitable liqdid 2.

The cross head suitable distance above the edge l2 of the holder 8. The valve stem l4 passes centrally downwardly through the sponge material I8 and through the valve body 6. The lower extremity of the valve stem 14 passes through the central opening 1 in the inner end wall of the valve body 6 and is soldered, or otherwise secured to the inner end wall of a cylindrical slide valve member l6 which has outer telescopic connection with the valve body 6. There is a suitable shoulder I! secured to the valve stem [4 adjacent the inner end of the sponge material adapted to limit inward movement of the valve stem M by contact with an internal seat I8 at the base of the cup shaped holder '8.

The coiled spring I 9 holds the slide valve member It in its normally closed position to close fluid inlets in the wall of the cylindrical valve body 6 to prevent fluid from entering the valve body and finding its way to the applicator material when the device is in an inverted position unless pressure is applied to the dauber l3 to compress the same sufficiently to move the slide valve l6 past the fluid inlets 20.
In ordinary use as a fluid applicator, the dauber is not compressed sufficiently to actuate the slide valve I6 after it has been once compressed sufficiently to admit fluid from the container to saturate the applicator material. To saturate the applicator material with fluid, the device is inverted when the material is compressed sufficiently to actuate the valve stem M, which in turn moves the slide valve Hi to a position to uncover the fluid inlets 20 and admit fluid to the cylindrical valve body 6 and then to the applicator material.
The cap opening 3' is larger in diameter than the valve body 6 to provide an annular groove 2| between the wall of the opening 3' and the valve body 6 to receive the outer edge portion of the slide valve member l6 and provide thereby a leak proof joint between the cap 3 and valve body 6 adjacent the fluid inlets 20 when the slide valve member [6 is in its closed position.
' In order to protect the applicator material when the device is not in use and to prevent rapid evaporation of the fluid contained by the applicator material and thereby eliminate complete dryness of the material, I employ a closure cap 22 which fits over the applicator material and the holder therefor. The cap 22 is detachably connected at its inner end to the cap 3 by suitable means such, for instance, as screw-threads 23, or their equivalent.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description that I provide a fluid control for applicators that is low in cost of manufacture, highly efficient for the purpose intended, and that the applicator can be used with various classes of fluids used for various purposes.
The many advantages of the herein described invention will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art to which it appertains.
What I claim is:
In combination with a fluid container having a screw-threaded neck, a container cap having internal screw-threads for screw-threaded connection with the screw-threaded neck and having external screw-threads for screw-threaded connection with a removable cap supported by the first mentioned cap, the container cap having a top wall having a central opening, a cylindrical valve body having a closed inner end provided with a central opening supported by the top wall of the container cap and projecting inwardly through the cap opening, the side wall of the valve body having opposed inlet openings adjacent the outer end thereof, a cup-shaped holder diverging outwardly from the outer end of the cylindrical valve body, a compressible fluid absorbing dauber having its inner end portion seated in the holder and secured thereto, a valve stem having a cross-head at its outer end anchored in the dauber beyond the outer edge of the holder, said valve stem projecting inwardly through the valve body and projecting through the central opening in the inner closed end thereof, a cylindrical slide valve member having a closed inner end secured to the inner end of the valve stem, the aforesaid valve member being telescoped with the valve body normally closing the fluid inlets to the valve body, a shoulder on the valve stem normally spaced from the outer end of the valve body and normally engaging the inner end of the dauber and serving to limit inward movement of the sliding valve memher by engaging the outer end of the valve body, a coiled spring encircling the valve stem engaging the shoulder at its outer end and engaging the closed inner end of the valve body at its inner end.
