18 therein These runners have reduced end portions 2| engaging the supports. The runners are arranged below the horizontal legs of the angled horizontal side members and secured thereto as by the fasteners 22.
The side and end rim members 23 and 24 are arranged on the outer sides of the wall panels and secured thereto as by the rivets indicated at 25; The ends of these rim members overlap the corner uprights.
The pintle bearings 29 are arranged through openings 38 formed in the arms of the corner irons, there being outward offsets 3i surrounding the openings to receive the retaining flanges 32 or the bearing members.
The stacking bails or irons 33are provided with arms 34 having inturned bearing engaging pintles 35 at the ends thereof so that the stacking irons or bails are pivotally supported to swing across the top of the box as shown in Fig. 1 or to depend at the end of the box. When in erected position they engage the top flanges of the corner irons. This distributes the load on the stacking irons to the side and end rim members and the supporting walls and the corner irons also serve as wear members protecting the walls and rim members. By arranging the corner uprights through the horizontal connecting and reinforcing members the load and stresses are well distributed and also projecting vertical edges at the corner eliminated at the point where they would be likely to engage in handling and dragging the box on its runners.
Structures embodying the invention are very strong and rigid in proportion to the weight of the stock employed and are capable of carrying heavy loads. The invention has been illustrated and described in a highly practical embodiment thereof Certain other embodiments and adaptations have not been illustrated or described which are contemplated as it is believed that this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt the invention as may be desired.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
