This invention relates to devices for making rosette-like articles, of the class disclosed in my co-pending application,-Ser. No. 509,938.

As will be noted by reference to said application, the device therein and herein disclosed is used for the formation of articles -(by use of thread) such as simulated flowers and the like, and is intended as an educational and utilitarian article. These and other advantageous objects, which will later appear, are accomplished by the simple and practical construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

The device of the invention comprises essentially a plate l6 provided with marginal recesses H for the reception of the strand 1? of wool or other material to be used in the formation of the rosette-like article it. The plate IE3 is provided with a medial vertical aperture !3 adapted to removably receive the pin i l or the like, which, when the device is used, serves at the top and bottom of the device as a guide in the winding of the strand i2 through the respective recesses H and over the top and bottom portions of the device. Those portions of the strand which are wound round the pin 14 at the top of the plate it, form the center of the article 56, while those portions of the strand which encircle the lower end of the pin M at the bottom of the device constitute the outer loops of the article it formed thereby, as shown in Fig. 3. After the loops are finished, the two ends of the strand and the central part of the crossed strands are gathered by stitching H to form a rosette.

When the article it has been completed, by simply withdrawing the pin [4 through the aperture l3 and completely out of the device, the loop ends of the article i! may be spread outwardly and the article lifted from the device to present,

The plate I 9 ispreferablyrif relatively flat cross section, andmay he formed as shown in Fig.2 of generally circular outline or,as shown inFig. 4, may be: of the outline of a square or any other polygonal figure.

As shown in 6, the marginal edges of the plate 24 may be of compound'curve structure in theform, forexample, of a triangle having margins is of generally concave outline.

The plate Hiis preferably provided with'a disc 20 secured to theunderside thereof in any desired or convenient manner, said disc serving to increase the length of the loops l5 as will be apparent from an inspection of Fig. 1 and having a medial aperture to receive pin M. To enlarge the loops it further, a second disc may be positioned on the disc which is fixed to they plate as shown in Fig. 5.

The outline of the article will generally conform to that of the plate and the length of the loops to the width of the disc or discs fixed to the plate. The article formed on the device shown in Fig. 4, wherein the plate 23 is of square outline will accordingly be of generally square outline.

It will be apparent from an inspection of the drawing that the devices shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6, like the device shown in Fig. 1, are provided with pins 21 (Fig. 5) and 28 (Fig. 6) passing through medial apertures for the purpose described in connection with the pin I4 of Fig. 1. The plate 26 of Fig. 4 may have a disc 22 and a second disc fixed thereto; likewise the plate 24 of Fig. 6 may have disc 25, and, if desired, a second disc fixed thereto. The discs in all cases receive the pin, as shown in the drawing.

If desired, the device may be provided with two or more plates 30 and 3|, with spacing means 32 interposed therebetween, and with medial apertures 33 for the reception of the pin 34 a in Fig. 7. It will be understood in connection with the structure shown in Fig. '7, that the marginal edges thereof may assume a form other than circular in the same manner as described in connection with other plates shown in the drawing. The spacing means 32 used in connection with this form of device may correspond to the disc 23 of Fig. 1, fixed to the plates thereof.

The various forms shown in the drawing may be provided with additional discs corresponding with additional disc 2| of Fig. 5, and may have discs fixed to the upper faces of the respective plate members, if desired.

The plate members of my device and the discs may be formed as a single unit made of any suitable material, molded of plastics, or fabricated of any other desired or convenient material.

The plates [0, 26, 24, 30 and 3| are provided with the thread-receiving marginal recesses shown in the drawing, corresponding to the recesses I l of the plate H1 in Fig. 1.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A device for forming rosette-like articles comprising a plate member provided with recesses at the marginal edges thereof to receive a strand to be wound on said device, one or more disc members rigidly fixed to said plate in contiguous abutment therewith to increase the length of loops wound thereon, said disc members being of substantially uniform width throughout, and forming with said plate to which they are fixed a substantially unitary article of the combined thickness of the plate and disc members, said plate and disc members being provided with aligned contiguous medial apertures to define a central orifice of uniform cross section throughout its length, and a pin of substantially identical cross section with that of the central orifice, adapted to be frictionally and removably inserted therein to project at the opposite ends beyond the plate and disc to serve as a guide in winding said strand.

2. A device for forming rosette-like articles 4 comprising a pair of plate members of substantially identical outline and cross section, each plate member being provided with recesses at the marginal edges thereof to receive a strand to be wound on said device, a disc member interposed between said plate members and rigidly fixed thereto to maintain said plate members in parallel, spaced relation, said plates and disc member being provided with aligned contiguous medial apertures of uniform cross section to define a central orifice, and a pin of substantially identical cross section with that of said central orifice adapted to be irictionally and removably received therein and to project at the opposite ends beyond the plates, to serve as a guide in winding said strand.

3. A device for forming rosette-like articles comprising a plate member provided with recesses at the marginal edges thereof to receive a strand to be wound on said device, a disc member rigidly fixed to said plate in contiguous abutment therewith to increase the length of loops wound thereon, and forming with said plate a substantially unitary article of the combined thickness of the plate and disc members, said plate and disc members being provided with medial apertures to define a central orifice and a in adapted to be frictionally and removably inserted in said orifice to project at the opposite ends beyond the plate and disc to serve as a guide in winding said strand.
