My invention relates to improvements in garment hangers, the primary object in view being to provide a hanger of simple form and inexensive construction adapted to clamp several garments therein in suspended position to hang straight, each without interference with the other, and in unwrinkled condition, and which is especially designed for hanging on the usual rod and to facilitate removal of any selected garment therefrom Without disturbing the other garments, or removing the hanger from the rod,

Other and subordinate objects are also comprehended by my invention, all of which, toather with the precise nature of my improvements, and the advantages thereof, will be readily understood when the succeeding description and claims are read with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification. a

Reference being had to the drawings by numerals, according to my invention, in the illustrated embodiment thereof, a garment hanger is provided comprising a pair of outer clamping bars I, 2, and a pair of inner clamping bars 3, 4 intermediate the outer bars, all of said bars being pivotally connected together at rear ends thereof for lateral swinging movement relatively about a hinge pintle 5 into and from side-byside clamping relation. A pair of substantially circular, flat hinge ears are provided on the rear end of each clamping bar I, 2, 3, 4 and through which the pintle '5 extends axially, the ears of each bar extending crosswise of the bar and being constructed and arranged for assembly in interlapping relation as follows: The pair of ears 1 on the outer bar I are spaced apart, in. the plane of the bar, to fit between the pair of cars S on the other outer bar 2. The pair of ears 9 on the inner bar 3, and the pair ID on the other inner bar 4 are spaced apart in each pair to interfit in interlocked relation with the outer most ear of each pair fitting between the pair of ears I of the outer bar I. As shown, the pair of ears I, 8, 9, I9 are offset,in different degree, to one side of the bars for assembly concentrically and so that the bars I, 2, 3, 4 may be swung into side-by-side relation. The pintle 5 is preferably formed with upset ends II countersunk in the ears 8 of the outer bar I.

The inner bars 3, 4, are provided with front end, lateral bosses I2 on the outer sides of said bars rounded, as at I3, to reduce the number of sharp corners and formed in the inner sides thereof with semi-circular finger grip-forming sockets I4 for use in separating said bars 3, 4, the bosses I2 forming oblique stop shoulders I5. The outer bars I, 2 are formed with front, oblique end edges I6 fitting against said shoulders I5 to space the outer bars I, 2 from the inner bars 3, 4 parallel in the clamping position of said bars. The inner bars 3, 4 when swung into parallel clamping relation to each other are also slightly spaced apart, as will be clear. The described spacing of the bars I, 2, 3, 4 into clamping relation thereof provides for clamping garments therebetween with uniform pressure throughout the clamped area of the garments.

A round-headed fastener pin I! with a T-head free end I8 is rotatably extended, transversely, through one boss I2 for extension of the end I8 thereof through a longitudinal slot I9 in the other boss I2 and turning of said end I8 crosswise of the slot I9 to fasten the inner bars 3, 4, together in clamping relation. A lock washer 20 on thepin I8, and the head of said pin, coact are pivoted in longitudinal, upper edge slots 21, 28*

in the inner bars 3, 4 each one central transverse pin 29, 30 in said bars and whereby said hooks are swingable out of said slots over the usual rod 3| upon which such garment hangers are commonly hung. The slots 21, 28 are sufficiently deep to house the hooks 25, 26 when the latter are not in use, so that said hooks will not project from the bars when the hanger is packed or stored.

The manner in which the described garment hanger is operated and used will be readily understood. A garment may be clamped between the inner clamping bars 3, 4 and one between each of the outer clamping bars I, 2 and the adjacent inner bar 3, 4 as the case may be. By unfastening the fastener pin H, the inner clamping bars 3, 4 may be swung out of clamping relation for re moval of a garment from between the same and while garments are still clamped between the outer clamping bars I, 2 and said inner bars 3, 4. Likewise, either outer clamping bar I, 2 may be swung out of clamping relation to the inner clamping bar complementing th same for removal of garments and while a garment is still clamped between the inner clamping bars 3, 4. The sockets l4 form convenient means for insertion of the finger therein to swing the inner clamping bars ,3, 4 out of clamping relation. Obviously, by virtue of the pivotal mounting'of the hanger hooks25, v26, the same may be slid along the rod 3| when the inner clamping bars 3, 4 are moved out of clamping relation so that said hanger hooks will not interfere with free use of the inner clamping bars 3, 4. 1

The foregoing will, it is believed, sufiice to impart a clear understanding of my invention without further explanation.

Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible of modification Without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall Within the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. In a'garment hanger, a pair of inner and a pair of outer clamping bars pivoted together at corresponding ends thereof for swinging into ,and out of parallel relation, the inner clamping bars complementing each other to clamp a garment therebetween, and the outer clamping bars each complementing one of said inner bars to clamp a garment therebetween, and means to fas-,

ten each outer clamping bar to its complementary inner clamping bar in clamping relation thereto, said inner bars having free ends with lateral reinforcement forming bosses thereon provided with finger grip forming sockets therein for use in swinging said inner bars.

2. In a garment hanger, a pair of inner and a pair of outer. clamping bars pivoted together at corresponding ends thereof for swinging into and out of parallel relation, th inner clamping bars complementing each other to clamp a garment therebetween, and the outer clamping bars each complementing one of said inner bars to clamp a garment therebetween, means to fasten each outer clamping bar to its complementary inner clamping bar in clamping relation thereto, and means to fasten the inner clamping bars together in clamping relation, said inner bars having free,

ends with lateral reinforcement forming bosses thereon provided with finger grip forming sockets therein for use in swinging said inner bars, said bosses having oblique stop shoulders thereon, said outer bars having oblique free end edges for fitting against said shoulders to space said outer bars from the inner bars.
