Application February 26,1948, 'ScrialNo. 11,3379
4 Claims. 1
This invention relates to improvements in spectacle cases. Pursuant to the instant invention; the spectacle case is made of a single blank of material, so formed as to enable the same to be assembled into a spectacle case having closed end Without necessitating the use of stitching.
A further object of the invention is to provide a spectacle case as described above which may be made of a relatively flexible material, the structural features of which are such that means are provided for securing the front and rear walls together in spaced parallel relation and for reinforcing the rear wall of the spectacle case by elongated tabs secured to the front wall portion of the case and folded over the rear wall portion of the case to close the ends of the case.
A further object of the invention is to provide a spectacle case of the features above noted which may be readily manufactured in quantities in an inexpensive and accurate manner and which will be emcient and durable in use.
These and other advantageous objects, which will appear from the drawings, and from the description hereinafter, are accomplished by the structure of my invention, of which an embodiment is illustrated in the drawings. It will be apparent, from a consideration of said drawings, and the following description, that the invention may be embodied in other forms suggested thereby, and such other forms as come within the scope of the appended claims are to be considered within the scope and purview of the instant invention.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a spectacle case made pursuant to my invention;
Fig. 2 is a vertical, transverse, sectional view, taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevational view thereof, and
Fig. 4 is a front elevational view thereof.
As shown in the drawings, the spectacle case [0, embodying my invention, comprises a blank of relatively flexible material cut to define a front wall portion II and a rear wall portion l2, secured together along one longitudinal edge to define a bottom portion 20. Elongated tabs l3, [4 are secured to the ends of said front wall and are adapted to be folded on the rear wall portion (see Fig. 1) with their ends in overlapping relation to thereby close the ends I 5, l 6 of the spectacle case. A spectacle positioning block I! is medially disposed in said case between the front and rear wall portions thereof. Securing means l8 are passed through the front wall, block, rear wall and overlapped ends of said tabs to secure said parts together in assembled relation. A latch element I9 is secured to or formed integral with the forward end of said securing means and is exposed on the front wall portion of the spectacle case. The rear wall portion is provided with an extended portion 2| defining a flap, said fiap being provided adjacent its free end 23 with a latch element 22 complementary to latch element [9.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that the front and rear walls I I and I2 of the spectacle case are secured together in parallel spaced relation (see Fig. 2), and that the front wall I I, being defined by a single thickness of material, retains all of the inherent flexibility of the blank of material of which the spectacle case is made, enabling the free flexing of the front wall to facilitate insertion and removal of spectacles. The rear wall portion I2 is reinforced by the elongated tabs l3, M which further reinforce the spectacle case medially at the point at which the block I1 is positioned therein. Thus, the rear wall portion of the spectacle case is reinforced and relatively rigid except where the same merges with the extended portion 2| which defines the flap, that portion being comparatively flexible to facilitate manipulation of the fiap to close and open the spectacle case.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that the structure provides highly desirable features from the users standpoint, in addition to being highly practical from a manufacturing standpoint.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A spectacle case comprising a blank of flexible material cut to define front wall and rear wall portions, elongated tabs secured to the ends of the front wall portion and adapted to be folded with their ends in overlapping relation on the rear wall portion, to thereby close the ends of the front and rear wall portions, a spectacle positioning block medially disposed in said case between the front and rear wall portions, and means passing through the front wall, block, rear wall and ends of said tabs, to secure said parts together in assembled relation.
2. A spectacle case comprising a blank of fiexible material cut to define front wall and rear wall portions secured together along one longitudinal edge to define a bottom portion, elongated tabs secured to the ends of the front wall portion and adapted to be folded with their ends in overlapping relation on the rear wall portion, to thereby close the ends of the ends of the front and rear wall portions, a spectacle positioning block 3 medially disposed in said case between the front and rear wall portions, and means passing through the front wall, block, rear wall and ends of said tabs, to secure said parts together in assembled relation.
3. A spectacle case comprising a blank of flexible material cut to define front wall and rear wall portions, elongated tabs secured to the ends of the front wall portion and adapted to be folded with their ends in overlapping relation on the rear wall portion, to thereby close the ends 01' the ends of the front and rear wall portions, an extended portion on the rear wall defining a flap adapted to overlie the front wall, to close the spectacle case, and complementary means on said flap and front wall, to latch the flap to said front wall.
4. A spectacle case comprising a blank of flexible material cut to define front wall and rear wall portions secured together along one longitudinal edge to define a bottom portion, elongated tabs secured to the ends of the front wall portion and adapted to be foldedwith their ends in overlapping relation on the rear wall portion, to thereby close the ends of the ends of the front and rear wall portions, an extended portion on the rear wall defining a flap adapted to overlie the front wall, to close the spectacle case, a spectacle positioning block medially disposed in said case between the front and rear wall portions, securing means passing through the front wall, block, rear wall and ends of said tabs, to secure said parts together in assembled positions, a latch element on said securing means exposed on said front wall, and a complementary latch element on said flap and adapted to engage the latch element on the front wall to latch the flap to said front wall.
EMANUEL NATHAN.
