Description
G. MYSELS PEG GAME BOARD June 7, 1949.
Filed May 4, 1946 INVENTDR (330mm PIysme g. I s" Ji 1w Patented June 7, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFlCE 7 Claims.
This invention relates to games of skill, and more specifically to a peg game board upon which a ring can be flipped in a manner to encircle one of the peg targets thereon.
An object of the invention is to provide a game board with a. runway, an obstacle extending across the end of the runway, and a target area provided with a plurality of peg targets, the board to be used with a ring which can be propelled by flipping it with the tip of the finger in such a Way as to surmount the obstacle and encircle one of the pegs.
Another object is to provide a board which can be folded when not in use to form a closed box adapted to contain the game paraphernalia.
Still another object is to-provide a peg game board with an approach section and a target section, and means to vary adjustably the angle between the sections.
A further object is to provide a peg game board having an approach section hingeably joined to the target-section, a portion of the hinge being adapted to form the obstacle at the end of the runway.
These and other objects are accomplished in one form of the invention by providing a peg game board having an approach section with a runway thereon and side Walls on opposite sides thereof, and a target section having a plurality of upwardly extending pegs, a rotatable yoke member to support said section at an adjusted angle to the runway, two side Walls and a back wall, the hinge between the sections forming an obstacle between the runway and the peg targets.
. For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a peg game board with a ring element ona runway, said board embodying features of the invention herein.
of Fig. 1.
- Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the peg game board in folded or closed position for storing or carrying.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view along the line 2 -2,
2 modification of the invention suitable for using marbles in place of rings.
In the drawings and in the specification, in which like reference numbers designate similar parts, a peg game board Ill shown in Figs. 1
' to 3 inclusive is comprised of an approach section II rotatably joined to a target section l2, the game being played in combination with rings or hoops Is, one of which is shown lying on the approach section.
The target section I2 has a flat base portion H, a rear wall or back stop i8, two Side walls l9 and a plurality of pegs 20. The front of the base portion I! is provided at each of its ends with extensions 2| which are connected with the obstacle or hurdle [6. The obstacle portion thus serves also as a hinge element, since a hinge pin-22 extends through the obstacle portion I 6 of the approach section and the extension 2| to join the two sections together rotatably. The target section I2 is provided with a yoke portion 23 which is rotatably joined thereto by a pin 24. The pegs 2!} can be arranged in any desired pattern, each peg extending from the base portion I! at right angles. Target section 12 is provided near its rear wall l8with a locking means l2 which holds approach section II in closed position when the game board is not in use. Yoke portion 23, in turn,-prevents locking means I! from accidentally opening when in closed posi-. tion. 4 v
The two sections H' and I2 can'be folded is form a closed box as shown in Fig. 3.
The game board can be set up and a game of skill played ther'elonas follows;
The board. Ill. can be openedto fully extende position aslshown in solidlines in Fig. 1, or with the target section I 2 in a sloping position supported by the yoke portion 23 as shown in phantom.
A ring is can then be propelled forward by a fiip of the finger. When the ring strikes the obstacle l6,- itis hurled aloft. The object of the game is to cause the ring to encircle one of the pegs 20 when it descendsto the target section. If itisdesi-red, the pegs can be given different score ratings-depending onthe relative difficulty of reaching and. encircling them,
While. the obstacle l6 hasbeen shown and described as being a part of the approach section, it can also be madepartof the target section and can also be removed from the hingeing means, if so desired...
In the form of the invention shown in Fig.v 5 target section iZ'is provided; with a plurality 3 of various size rings 20' which are placed one within the other to form grooves or openings 2|. These rings 20' may be substituted for pegs 20 when it is desired to use marbles in place of hoops when playing the game.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructionsrhereimdisclosecb:andethearight-a hinge pin to superposed relation, thereby forming a box, targets supported on said target section for receiving an object propelled thereto along said runway and over said obstacle.
4. A game comprising an approach section having a flat runway, two side walls, the front of said runway being open, and a rear bulbous hinge element extending completely between said side wailsfand' rising above said runway substantially is reservedltdallachangesmnd mndifiations com-":40 the height SaidiSide-WWHS; a target ing within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I: claim as new, and desire to secure by "Uriitedfi States Letters Patent is:
