This invention relates to babies garments and particularly to adjustable diapers having provisions to extend the life and utility of the diapers.

Most conventional diapers are so manufactured that their utility is shortened by the deterioration of only a portion of the garment, usually resulting in the discarding of unworn material. Further, the usefulness of the garment is more or less controlled by the increase in size of the child.

It is an object of my invention to increase the use of diapers by arranging for the elimination of the portion first worn but still retaining sufficient material to permit of continued use.

Another object is to provide a garment which is adjustable and Which will accommodate the continued increase in the sizey of the infant.

A further object is to provide a diaper which may be readily attached and removed from the infant, Vwithout the use of safety pins and other conventional securing means, and still `allow comparative freedom of the hands of the mother or nurse. Y

An additional object is to provide fasteners that may be quickly secured and arranged so that none will touch the body of the infant.

These and other objects will be apparent from the following description of the drawings which illustrate a preferred embodiment thereof andi a modification, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the diaper secured in its maximum size;

Figure 2 is a top plan view with the front and back portions slightly extended;

Figure 3 is an end elevation;

Figure 4 is a top plan View of the diaper in reverse unfolded position; and

Figure 5 is a fragmentary plan view of a modic'ation.

Referring more particularly to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the different views, the numeral l0 indicates the diaper,

-preferably made of a light weight cotton cloth generally used in the manufacture of such garments. The diaper is preferably cut from a continuous web of material as indicated in Fig. 4.

The garment is composed of three sections with the front and rear faces indicated at l2, I4, I6, I8, 20, and 22. Although not specifically shown in the drawings, the edges are bound or hemmed. The central portion l2 is provided with straight edges 24, i26, 28 and 30, and vcutout leg portions are shown at 32 and 34;

'In Figure 4 particularly, the two sections |l'2`f and `t6 are strengthened by a tape 3-6 sewed orl stitched at they fold. A plurality of snap fasteners 38 are secured on this tape which will serve as securingv andadj ustment means.

Similarly, the portion I6 is pro-vided with straight edges lill, 42, 44 and 46 with central cut-out vportions 48' and 5U. The third section Eil, lof a width less than the other two portions, is 4provided with straightv side edges 52 and 5W. The central portion l2- has short tapes `5`6 vand 58 secured at the top thereof and vcompanionsnap fastening elements '60, 62, 64 and 66' Yare secured thereon.

It is to be noticed that the fastening elements are arranged to prevent contact with the body of the infant.

I claim:

1. A new article of manufacture, an infants diaper comprising a body portion of web material and extensions on both ends thereof, the body portion having cut-out leg portions at the sides thereof, strengthening means at the junction of the body portion and an extension, cooperating cut-out leg portions on said lastnamed extension, and snap fastening elements on said strengthening means, snap fastening elements positioned at the junction of said body portion and the other extension adapted to have cooperative engagement with the snap fastening elements on said strengthening means.

A new article of manufacture, an infants diaper comprising a body portion of web material and extensions on both ends thereof, the body portion having cut-out leg portions at the sides thereof, strengthening means at the junction of the body portion and an extension, cooperating cut-out leg portions on said lastnamed extension, and snap fastening elements on said strengthening means, snap fastening elements positioned at the junction of said body portion and the other extension adapted to have selective cooperative engagement with two or more of said snap fastening elements on said strengthening means whereby adjustment is accomplished.

A new article of manufacture, an infants diaper comprising a body portion of web material and extensions on both ends thereof, the body portion having cut-out leg portions at the sides thereof, strengthening means at the junction of the body portion and an extension, cooperating cut-out leg portions on said lastnamed extension, and snap fastening elements on said strengthening means, strengthening means positioned across the end opposite from the other strengthening means, the outer fasteners adapted to have cooperative engagement with the snap fastening elements on said firstnamed strengthening means, and said secondnamed extension adapted to be separably attached to said body portion by said snap fastening elements on the lbody portion and said second-named extension.

A new article of manufacture, an infants diaper comprising a body portion of web Inaterial and extensions on both ends thereof, the body portion having cut-out leg portions at the sides thereof, strengthening means at the junction of the body portion and an extension, cooperating cut-cut leg portions on said lastnamed extension, and snap fastening elements on said strengthening means, strengthening means positioned across the end opposite from the other strengthening means, the outer fasteners adapted to have selective cooperative engagement with two or more of said snap fastening elements on said first-named strengthening means whereby adjustment is accomplished, and said second-named extension adapted to be separably attached to said body portion by said snap fastening on the body portion and said second-named extension.

A diaper construction comprising an elongated sheet having a, body portion and two eX- tensions, one of said extensions being additionally connected to said body portion by a 4 strengthening tape secured across said body portion and said first extension, cooperative cutout leg portions formed in said body portion and said first extension, fastening elements secured to said strengthening tape, fastening elements secured at the top and ends of said body portion adjacent the second extension and adapted to have cooperative engagement with said firstnamed fastening elements to firmly secure the diaper on the body of an infant.

A diaper construction comprising an elongated sheet having a body portion and two extensions, one of said extensions being additionally connected to said body portion by a strengthening tape secured across said body portion and said first extension, cooperative Cutout leg portions formed in said body portion and said first extension, fastening elements secured to said strengthening tape, fastening elements secured at the top and ends of said body portion adjacent the second extension and adapted to have selective cooperative engagement with two or more of said first-named fastening elements to adjustably secure the diaper on the body of an infant.

A diaper construction comprising an elongated sheet having a body portion and two extensions, one of said extensions being additionally connected to said body portion by a strengthening tape secured across said body portion and said first extension, cooperative cut-out leg portions formed in said body portion and said rst extension, fastening elements secured to said strengthening tape, fastening elements secured at the top and ends of said body portion adjacent the second extension and adapted to have selective cooperative engagement with two or more of said rst-named fastening elements to adjustably secure the diaper on the body of an infant, and said second extension adapted to lbe removably attached to said body portion.

A diaper comprising an elongated sheet having a body portion and two extensions, one of said extensions being additionally connected to said body portion by a strengthening tape secured across said body portion and said firstnamed extension, cooperative cut-out leg portions formed from said body portion and said rst extension, fastening elements secured to said strengthening tape, fastening elements secured at the top and ends of said body portion adjacent the second extension and adapted to have cooperative engagement with said first-named fastening elements to firmly secure the diaper on the body of an infant, said elongated sheet adapted to be formed into a convenient size diaper by folding said second-named extension over said body portion, superimposing said firstnamed extension over the other two portions, subsequently forming said diaper about the body of an infant and adjustably securing said diaper whereby dislodgernent of the diaper is minimized.
