UNITARY CHALK AND ERASER HOLDER Filed Dec. 16, 1948 v INVENTOR.
I I BY a a {MM .Pearl Rtftgzoad findborsf Patented May 3, 1949 UNITARY CHALK AND ERASER HOLDER Pearl Raymond Windhorst, Oakland, Calif., as-
signor to American Seating Company, Grand Rapids, Mich., a corporation of New Jersey Application December 16, 1948, Serial No. 65,641
3 Claims.
The present invention relates to chalkboards and tackboards for use primarily in classrooms, and the primary objects of the invention are to provide a unitary chalk and eraser holder having separate trays for the reception of chalk and erasers, to provide such a unitary chalk and eraser holder which comprises a continuous metal extrusion and which is strong, attractive in appearance and reasonably economical in manufacture.
These and any other and more specific objects hereinafter appearing are attained by, and the invention finds preferable embodiment in, the structure or device hereinafter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a chalkboard or the like having my new unitary chalk and eraser holder applied thereto;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary front elevational view of the unitary chalk and eraser holder per se;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of the same taken on line 3--3 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary top plan view of the holder, per se.
Referring now in detail to these drawings, the chalk and eraser holder is shown in Figure 1 applied to a chalkboard 5 mounted flush against a vertical wall 6. The holder is generally designated I, and as shown in Figures 2-4 comprises a vertical base 8 having apertures 9 therethrough, through which apertures may be passed screws ID for securing the holder to the chalkboard 5 or to any other suitable vertical or near-vertical support therefor.
Formed integrally with the base 8 is an eraser tray I I which extends horizontally from the lower portion of the base 8 and which is provided with a lip I2 on its outer edge for retaining erasers I3 thereon and with a plurality of beads I4 on its upper surface for supporting said erasers above the floor proper of the tray and thus out of contact with any chalk dust (indicated at I5 in Figure 3) which may collect in the eraser tray.
A concave chalk tray I6 extends laterally and upwardly from the base 8 of the holder above the innermost portion of the eraser tray II, and is adapted to contain pieces of chalk H.
The base 8, eraser tray II and chalk tray I6 are integrally formed, being preferably in the form of a metal extrusion, as of aluminum. After extruding, the metal is cut into desired lengths 2 thereof and applied to the chalkboard or tackboard in the manner described above. If desired the corners of each length of the extrusion may be bandsawed or otherwise rounded as indicated at I 8 in Figure 1.
It will thus be seen that the invention provides a strong, attractive and effective unitary chalk and eraser holder and while but one specific embodiment of the invention has been herein shown and described it will be understood that numerous details may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of the invention as the same is defined by the following claims.
I claim:
1. A unitary chalk and eraser holder comprising a vertical base adapted to be secured to a vertical surface, an eraser tray extending horizontally from the lower portion of the base, and a chalk tray extending laterally and upwardly from the base above the innermost portion of the eraser tray.
2. A unitary chalk and eraser holder comprising a continuous metal extrusion having a vertical base adapted to be secured to a vertical surface, an eraser tray extending horizontally from the lower portion of the base, and a chalk tray extending laterally and upwardly from the base above the innermost portion of the eraser tray.
3. A unitary chalk and eraser holder comprising a continuous metal extrusion having a vertical base adapted to be secured to a vertical surface, an eraser tray extending horizontally from the lower portion of the base and having a retaining lip on its outer edge and a plurality of beads on its upper surface, and a concave chalk tray extending laterally and upwardly from the base above the innermost portion of the eraser tray.
