:IIE-Ei E Paienied Nev. 23, 1943 ,i Qassam r ,r l Y, 'SHEETPAPERDISENSER- i vpensing desired lengths-.1, of` sheet paper-.from a roll, and in"V its present embodimentis designed."
for dispensing lengthsof waxed sheet-paper Vfrom a roll such as vmarketed for ,householdguse An object of the invention lis. to `provide Vadis#` penser `oi thecharacter described which willkeep the paperf fullyvprotected from exposure before being withdrawn;fromV the device, and will pereh mit the user-to sever the'sheetinaready manner tcperrnitA insertion of aroll of waxed paper or and grip andwithdrawthe sheet from the device,.
notwithstanding the fact ,that the leading edge, of the sheet maybe-inaccessible after severance of the` preceding portion.
i Another bjecplof theinvention is tdprovide adispenser having allzof the parts" mounted on two distinct units which are arranged to` be separated from each lother to pe'rnni',v refilling. the dispenser and which are so designed Y and Yhave the Vparts arranged vthereon in suchfmannerthat,v ther reassembly :of the units jon Athe refilling operation will serve tofautomatically position'and` threadA the paper through the cooperating parts.
` A furtherobject of lthe.invention `is to provide2 a dispenser'of the character described; which will be gattractivelin appearance; inexpensive to manufacture, easv' to operataand not apt to become out of j order when subjected ,to' Vcareless usage.
[The invention -possesses,other `*objects Vand A features 'of advantage, sorneofV which withthe foregoing, will'sbe'set forthjin the following description of .thepreferre'd form of the invention Vwhichfis illustrated'in ythe drawing accompany-H ingand forming partjofthe specification. It isV `l'figiireZL-is a ktransverse sectional View ofthe,

-Figure 4"is a longitudinal sectionalfview ofiV the i dispenseron a reduced scale.
ew of a dispenser the; like such asnavailabl onthemarkeL-and is: provided with abottomlwall llLxend wallsl and front and-i rear walls Hand iwhichareof such. lsiz'e as,to i supportiand accommodate thegroll` therebetween. t The cover Iisy provided: with an open bottom sothat-theireceptacle may be; inserted within theicover, and is formed withfa top wall l5, front varid-rear walls 2| and 22 and endv walls A23 vcorrespondinginjgeneral to the similar wallstof the receptacle,` theendewalls of the cover being, however, ,appreciablv wider than the end' walls ofzthe receptacleY so that-ar space 2li-may be left `between thev front walls l1 and 2| when ther units are in assembled relation., i
Inthe present embodiment of the invention `'the dispenser is. arranged for, support on a wall or the like and the attachment of the device inv-pos-Y-iV Y tionxi's arranged tobe effectedthrough means of the cover. 1;' Forthis reason there-is provided in the rear; wall 22 suitable slots26 `through which may be :inserted suitable Ascrews 21 for `fasteningthe cover to theFwall. A'lloreleasably hold the receptacle in the cover with the space 24 defined as aforesaidfthere is provided oneach of: the end p r 1 walls of the,` cover a pivoted spring `pressedhook 28which is designed to engagea pin 29 project,
inglfrom, the end wallslofthe receptacle, a slot 3libeing providedy in` the end walls of the cover so as to accommodate "and guidelithepin.
As will be clear fromV Figure 2, the front Vwall IT of the receptacle is foreshortened at the top so as to providean outlet opening for thesheet from, the; receptacle `and preferably the` upper edge 32 of such wall is rolled so as to provide al smooth ,guide for thesheet overvsuch wall. rThe sheet, as will also bel clear from said guregis Figure 5 is a transverse `sectional view sirrii'larfV y to Figure j2 `but` showing a modified construction'.
Figure 6 isa fragmentary sectional vview taken' on the line 6-.6 ofFgure 5; t
AS illustrated 'in the drawinggtneidispenser arranged-tobedrawn from` over the upperedge 32'. down through-,the Vspacey2ll.and through a 'discharge opening 33 fdened betweenthe vlowerl edge'of the wall IT andthe wall-21. 'Ihe lower edge 34 of wall2i is preferably serrated or otheriv wise t formed; to permit Vthe il ready t. severance `of the sheet whenzthelportion vextending from the opening 33 is pulled against and'across suchiedg'e.
As willrr begevid'entwhen the sheet `is severed at theedge 34 theleading `portion of the sheet-remaining attached to the roll iis left hiddenl and relatively inaccessible-in the. space 24. In order; t therefore-to advance the sheet through the opening'33 so. as to-permit gripping by --the user `for withdrawal andv severance ofanotherlength of my invention is made upoftwo distinct unitsl i2 Y and I3 respectively' comprising a receptacle and cover." VThe receptacle is formed open at the top the sheet,` I. provide-cooperating means' on the receptacle and cover, which may bei actuated jfrom 'the' exterior of the cover to initially advance the sheet when it is desiredy to withdraw and remove a length after the previous severing operation. In accordance with the above I provide a pair of friction rollers 36 and 31 respectively carried by the receptacle and cover. The rollers which are preferablyformed of rubber and arranged in parallel relation, are designed to project into the space 24 so as to resiliently grip between them the portion of the sheet extending through the space. Oneof the rollers has 4a fixed mounting', while the other is mounted to permit it toV be yieldingly urged toward the other. As
here shown, the roller 36 is mounted-for rotation i about a fixed axis and' accordingly is provided with a shaft 38 mounted in xed bearingsV 3i!` attached to the front wall of thenrecveptacle. As Y will be clear from Figure 3, such wallv is provided with a slot 4| and the roller ispositioned so as to lextend through the slot 'and into thespace 24.' The front Wall 2| is slotted at 42 similar to" the wall Il so as to accommodate the' roller 3T, part of which is'k arranged to extend intothe space 24 and outside the wall 2| sol as 'to be accessible* toi the 'userefo'r gripping and rotation. Roller 3l is provided withfa shaft 43 which is mounted in bearings 44 which permit :mrnement of the shaft' transversely of theaxis or in other words, to and from the roller SSL order toy urge the roller 31 towardthe'roller 36 #and thereby insure the gripping of theI sheet `b'etvveen'the rollers, a springk 46 is inserted in the bearings to engage and press the shaft 4.3 toward the-bearings 44 for the roller 36. A modied'iorm'of mounting forthe roller V31 is shownin Figures 5 and 6. In thisembodiment the roller shaft43 is provided'on an arm 41 'pivotallyv connected to' the front'walll IV above the s`101:1"42, thearmbeingiorcedby` a spring 48' to urgethe roller 3T rearwardly towards the roller 3B.k The-arm 4-1' as well as the' bearings 44"'may bel positioned inwardly or outwardly of the wall 2l.V However, 'it is preferable t'ov position' the same on theV inner-side-ofv the'wall', as here illus-A tratd; so asto concealsuch vparts. Preferably the wall 2|' iis-'bowedoutwardlyso as' to permit" th mountini'g` forf the'r'roller' 31 to be more: con-V veniently carried and arranged on the inner side of the wall.`v "It will now be clear that with the sheet positienedbetweenthe rollers the operator may readily!advanc'ze thesame so that theA leading edgewill-extend' through` `the 'passage 33 by simply moving in the proper direction the portion of the roller' 3l protruding outwardly ,from .the wall 21;/ 1
It is important to note that the design` and arrangement of the rollers 36 and`3'l are sucht-hat.
the receptaclemay be disengaged from the cover and replaced positionv withoutVV requiring manipulation of thefroller' mountings yor related parts.l VInother?words,y not only may the units be'- rea'dily separated for' refilling the' vreceptacle' without requiring manipulation of the rollers and associated! parts, but the units may be corre:- spondingly re-as'sernbled to automatically posi?-` tion and thread' the sheetl in' andv through the rollersfor Withdrawal inl the r'equired manner.
that it is practically impossible to reinsert the receptacle without positioning the sheet andV a cover for said receptacle provided with a front Y' wall positioned opposite said receptacle wall and having a lower serrated edge and a slot in registration with said roller, and a roller` carried by said cover` Wallpositioned with a portionv prov trudingfrom the outer-side and a portion pro-. trudingefrom theinner side to press said' sheet vpor-tion.against the first roller;
'2. In a sheet paper dispenser of the'character described, ari-open topA receptacle.designedv to ,supportarolly of sheet paper and having a front e Wall' ,overfand down acros'sl the' outer side ofI which'the sheet is yarranged tobe' drawn', a cover for saidrec'eptacle mounted to overlie=said're cept'acle-frnt Wallin spaced relation and having a front wa1l para1lel1to andspaced from` said receptacle front wall wherebythesl'ieet may be extended* downwardly therebetween and having a paperv severing edge atthe bottom thereof, a roller'carried by said receptacle fronti wall inposition to'eng'age the sheet, anda roller carried by said cover frontr wall positionedA to engage Thus,- to permitfthel separationof the'units, itis lmerely necessary to' release the hooks 28,-so that the receptaclemaylbe lowered' through the opening 'in the bottom of the cover. Y When a new roll is' then inserted inthe receptacle-with a portion folded overthe guide 32-'andwith sidcientlength e depending from, the: lower edge; off the wall l1, the receptacle is reinserted into Ythe cover so that i the sheet'ispositionedin the space 24V and-gripped between. the two' rollers. yIt .will thus. be seen said sheetvopposite said first roller and having' a portion of its periphery exposed at the Vouter side ofsaid cover front vwall for manualiengagement and rotation;
