CASE FOR SPECTACLES OR EYEGLASSES Filed Dec. 4, 1940 o, z w QZjiSyenae M: *M W i ally/ an Patented Sept. 21, 1943 UNITED/STATES 1 Claim. (01.40510) This invention relate to 'a spectacles or eye- -glassescase. 9 I
An object of this invention is to prOVlde an identifying means 'for mounting ina pocket provided in a spectacle; case which is simple in its construction and arrangement, and which will provide a means for retaining-the prescription of the lense so that the lenses may readily be duplicated.
Another object of this invention is to provide an improved record bearing construction in the formof a foldable record sheet and a tab structure fixed to one side of the sheet and including a pull tab which is adapted to project from the folded edges of the sheet so that the entire folded sheet may be disposed in a pocket for protection thereby and the pull tab left projecting from the pocket.
Embodying the aims aforesaid and others which may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more specifically latter is constructed of any suitable material and preferably it will be 1 ale'ngth of paper. The member II may, if desired, be provided onitsouter face with the' name of the optometrist furnish mg the eyeglasses or'spectacles. The'mernber II has the portions I2, I3 and inner-faceof lid 9 by any suitable adhesive material. The portion I of the member l l i not secured directly to the inner face of the lid 9, but correlates with such innerface to provide a pocket I6, which is open at its upper end when the lid 9 is in the position shown in Figurel. The outer face of the portion I5 of th member I I has suitably secured thereon a luminous means I1 and such means may consist of radium or' other type paint that glows in the dark. The means I1 may be arranged in an indented part i of the portion I5 of. the member II and secured referred to and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein are shown embodiments of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes,
variations and modifications may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a case for storing a pair of spectacles or eyeglasses, the case being partly broken away, shown in open position and constructed in accordance with thi invention,
Figure 2 is a section on line 2--2 Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a front elevation of a luminous wall formin member for correlation, with the inner face of the lid of the case to provide a pocket,
Figure 4 is an elevation looking towards the front of the combined identifying and instructing element when the latter is extended, and
Figure 5 is an elevation looking towards the rear face of the element shown in Figure 4.
With reference to Figures 1 to 5 of the drawing, a protecting case for a pair of spectacles or eyeglasses is generally indicated at I, and it consists of an open top body portion 8 for receiving the pair of spectacles or eyeglasses and a snap lid or cover 9 for closing the body portion 8. The lid 9 is connected at one side to one side of the body portion 8 by a snap spring hinge II) which couples the body portion 8 and lid 9 together.
Arranged against the inner face of lid 9,1engthwise thereof is a wall forming member II. The
to the member I I, but it is to be understood that the means I! is to be secured and arranged relative to the portion I! of the member II in any suitable manner. luminosity, enables one to readily ascertain where the case I is in the dark when the case is open.
There is carried by the lid 9 a combined identifying and instructing element generally indicated at I8. in and has a part "thereof extended from the mouth of the pocket IS. The element I8 com-.
prises carrier I9 in the form of a foldable and extendible sheet of rectangular. form andxsaid carrier in its folded position is shown in Figure 2. The rear face of the sheet I9 is provided with a designated line 20 on which is to be arranged the name of the owner of the pair of spectacles or eyeglasses protected by the case I, a designated line 2i for receiving the address of the owner, a
designated line 22 for inserting the name of the city in which the owner resides, a designated line 23 for receiving the date the eyeglasses or spectacles were furnished to the owner, conventional means as indicated at 24 to constitute instructions for the owner by the optometrist furnishing the glasses, and at the lower portion of the sheet,
. furnishing the glasses.
as indicated at 25, the name of the optometrist The element I8 further include a pull tab 26 for the-carrier I9. The pull tab 25 is secured to the lower portion of the front face of the carrier I9. The tab 26 is of less length than the length of the carrier and has its side edges positionedequidistant from the side edges of the carrier I9. The pull tab 26 consists of a rectangular portion 21 and a substantially semicircular portion 28 extended upwardly from. the upper end of the portion 21. The portion 21 I4 secured to' the The means I1, owing to its The said element i removably mounted of the tab 26 has the major part thereof secured to a fold of the carrier I9 in a manner as indicated by the dotted line showing 29, Figure 4. That fold of the carrier [9, which is secured to the inner face of the portion 21 of the tab 28, is of less width than the width of said portion 27 and such fold has its sides spaced equidistant from the side edges of portion 21 of tab 25. The portion 28 of tab 26 is free of direct connection against the inner face or a fold of the carrier 1 9. When the sheet or element I8 is folded, it is initially folded longitudinally along the dotted lines 29 and 29 and then folded transversely along the lines 29 and 29 so that it will assume a rectangular configuration as shown by the dotted lines 29 wherein the folded sheet is disposed withment of the folded carrier with respect to the tab 26, when removing it or replacing it in pocket l6 said carrier will not be damaged or torn. The portion 28 extends the necessary distance from the folded carrier so that when the element I8 is being removed from pocket [6 one cannot engage the folded carrier I9 and damage the same.
What I claim is:
A combined identifying and instructing element for engagement in an inner pocket of a spectacle or eyeglasses case, comprising a rectangular foldable and extendible sheet, and a pull tab secured to the lower portion of one face of said sheet,
said tab having a size substantially smaller than the size of said sheet and including a body portion fixed to one face of said sheet with one edge in the confines of the carrier 26. The portion 28 of the tab 26 expedites the removal of the carrier 9 from the pocket l6 when occasion requires. The carrier l9, when folded, forms a body, which is of less length than the length or tab 26 and of less Width than the width of the portion 2'! of tab 26. The folded carrier H) has its lower end flush with the lower end of the tab 26. The latter has suitable means on its outer face at its upper end which is indicated at 30, to designate that the tab is to be pulled out from pocket [6 with the folded carrier I 9. Owing to the arrangethereof flush with an adjacent edge of said sheet and having opposed longitudinal edges inwardly of the adjacent longitudinal edges of the sheet, said sheet being normally folded to conform to the size of the body portion and disposed within the confines of said body portion, said bodyhaving a'dimension to fit inside of the pocket, and a pull member integral with and extending from said body, said pull member being free of said sheet and extending beyond the adjacent folded edges of said sheet. l l ZENO B.
