SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 232,412, dated September 21, 1880.

Application filed May 6,1880. (Model) To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDMUND A. PARKER, of West Meriden, inthe county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjust able Lam pBrackets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in adjustable lamp-brackets for regulating the altitude and horizontal position of lampsin such manner that the full light emanating therefrom may beadjusted in such manner as to be shed upon or caused to illuminate such objects as may be most desirable and it consists in the horizontal supports A A, vertical rod B, sleeve B, clasp C, with bracket 0, cylinder D, with shoulder a and disk 01, and in the combination, construction, and arrange ment of the parts, as hereinafter more fully specified.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof, taken on line 00 a. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detached sectional view of the disk, showing the right and left hand screw-threads as therein located. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detached sectional view of the right andleft hand screws; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detached sectional view of the prongs of the bifurcated lever, showing the square orifice therein for reception of the square heads of the screws.

A Arepresent horizontal supports, having the metallic disks 1), to which they are rigidly secured, the disks being perforated for reception of screws or nails as a means of attaching the device in position. The vertical rod B is rigidly secured at thelower end thereof to the lower horizontal support, A, and is removably fitted at the top into a recess provided in the upper horizontal support, which construction renders the rod removable as a means of economizing space in packing the device for transportation.

The bracket 0 is rigidly attached to the clasp C, and the clasp is rigidly attached to the sleeve B, which loosely fits the rod B and between the latters prongs is located the 4 disk 6?, through which said screws project.

The apertures in the bifurcated lever are square, for reception of the square-headed screws,and afew lines larger than said. screwheads, as a means of permitting a slight rotation of the bifurcated lever and an inward movement of the screws, as otherwise the prongs of the lever must needs be drawn together by the rotation of the screws. These screws are loosely secured to the bifurcated lever b, and between its prongs is located the disk 61, through which said screws project.

The weighted bifurcated lever 12, when lifted, causes the right and left hand screws to recede from contact with the rod B, which releases the cylinder D, that indirectly supports the bracket- C, and when released it falls by its own weight into a horizontal position and projects the screws against the sides of the vertical rod, which supports the bracket at any desired elevation. The sleeve B admits the bracket being swung to the right or left, as may be desirable.

What I claim is-- 1. The vertical rod B, having supports A A, lamp-bracket C, having sleeve B, cylinder D, and bifurcated lever b, having right and left hand screws, operating through disk d upon rod B, substantially as shown, and for the purpose described.

2. The bifurcated lever I), right and left hand screws (1 and d, disk cl, and cylinder D, substantially as shown and set forth.
