This invention relates to receptacles or trays for holding manicure supplies such as nail polish and nail polish remover, and holding the same in a variety of containers so as to make available to the manicurist a complete assortment of shades of nail polish, making available to the customer a comparatively convenient method of selection of the respective shade required.

An important object of my invention is to provide an article of the aforementioned character which is adapted to accommodate a multiple number of nail polish containers filled with different shades of nail polish, as well as a tray which is provided with display means adjacent to each of said nail polish containers, indicating the appearance of a coating of a polish on the finger nails of a human hand.

Another object of my invention is to provide a tray which will accommodate a number of containers of varied shades of nail polish, and also an enlarged container of nail polish remover, the said tray also being provided with display nail means to indicate, for selective purposes, the shade of nail polish, and to indicate its appearance on the finger nails when applied during manicure operation; the container adjacent to the nail display means representing the appearance of the nail when coated with the nail polish taken from said container.

Another object of my invention is to provide a tray which will hold a multiple number of nail polish containers, each container having adjacent thereto the simulation of a nail adapted to be coated with the shade of nail polish in the container adjacent thereto so as to indicate the appearance of that shade on a persons finger nails prior to application of the said shade, and also card holding means indicating the name of the shade adjacent to the said nail polish containers.

Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the aforementioned character, which is neat in appearance, practical in construction, useful and convenient for making shade selection, facilitating selection of nail polish therefrom, and of such simple construction as to permit manufacture on an economical basis in quantity production.

Other features, objects, and advantages may become readily apparent from a study of the accompanying drawing and the ensuing description wherein like numerals are used to designate like parts and in which:

Referring to Figure 1 and Figure 5, the invention is indicated as being one which in Figure 1 contains two rows of nail polish containers, whereas in Figure 5, there is only one row of nail polish containers, otherwise the structure is practically the same.

In Figure 1, the invention is generally designated I l and is comprised of a tray portion I2 having the arcuate handle portions M, whereby it can be grasped in handling the same. The cavity I3 is provided to accommodate two rows of containers which contain nail polish material and are designated ll. The main tray portion, as seen in Figure 2, is provided with the recessed section it so as to provide a convenient finger grip for the handle portion M.

As seen in Figure 3, the tray portion is provided with two inclined surfaces It! upon which are positioned the raised sections l5, provided with the arcuately shaped ledge portion is. The portions l5 are shaped, substantially, in the form of the nail portion of the finger of a persons hand.

It is to be noted, that for each of the many containers shown in the illustration in each row, nail sections [5 are adjacently positioned. The purpose of the nail section is to provide a surface upon which may be coated the nail polish contained in the container located directly adjoining the nail section [5 so as to indicate to a prospective customer how that particular nail polish would appear on the persons nails if and when such nail polish were to be applied.

The multiple number of shades comprise an entire selection or group for the purpose of viewing at a glance the respective shades of nail polish so that the customer may quickly select the shade of nail polish and know just how that particular shade will look when applied to that persons finger nails. At the present time this selec tion is usually made by taking a sample of the nail polish, placing it on the finger nail to see if it is suitable; this of course is a long and tedious task and makes for considerable waste of time.

Even tho the containers are made of glass, the apparent color of the polish is deceptive owing to the refraction of light thru the glass walls of the containers. My invention should aid materially in promoting the sale of such material assuring a greater degree of satisfaction on the part of the purchaser.

In Figure 6, I show a different container unit, however, embodying the same motif which characterizes my invention, namely, of providing a tray for holding nail polish containers and indicating alongside each container by means of a nail section the appearance of the application of the particular nail polish to the surface of a persons nails. In this particular view, the structure is, generally, indicated by the numeral 25.! and is provided with four openings 2| which merge with an enlarged central opening 23. The

individual compartments 2| are adapted for holding the nail polish containers 22 in adjoining relationship by virtue of the cutout portion 25 which provides an enlarged opening for container 23 which contains nail polish remover. This combined form is an individualized unit which will give a person a selection of several shades of nail polish and also the nail polish remover all in a most convenient and compact form.

In this structure the nail portions are adjacent to each nail polish container, and are designated 26 having the ridge 2? which simulates the shape of the bottom edge of the nail so as to provide an outline or configuration which will give a clear indication when nail polish is applied thereto.

The ribs 25 are furnished for reinforcement purposes so as to make the unit strong and durable. Figure '7 in cross-sectional View indicates the appearance of the structure shown in Figure 6. Figures 8 and 9 indicate a slightly modified form of Figures 1 or in which is shown a slotted portion 28 in order to receive a card 29 which has on it the name or designation 38 of the particular shade of nail polish in the container directly behind the card.

The nail simulations 15 on the tray may be cleaned with a suitable solution which acts as a solvent for the nail coloring material coated thereon, and containers of different colors may be interchangeably placed in the tray. The coloring matter in the containers thus being replaced may be removed from the nail simulations, the said simulations being subsequently coated with the coloring material from the containers replacing the ones removed from the tray.

In like manner a new card carrying the indicia or nomenclature of the respective shades of the new containers may be inserted to replace the card representing the shades or colors of the containers being replaced.

The particular forms indicated may be made of a plastic substance, however, I realize that my invention is susceptible of many modifications, alterations, and improvements, and, hence, I reserve the right to all such modifications, alterations, and improvements, which come within the scope and spirit of my invention, and within the purview of the foregoing description; my invention to be limited by the appended claims.

Having thus described and revealed my inven tion what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A tray comprising, a body portion, said body portion having a cavity adapted to hold nail coloring container means, moon shaped finger nail display means positioned adjacent the said cavity, and a slotted portion interposed between the said cavity and the said nail display means, adapted to hold removably a card designating the hue of nail coloring material coated on the said finger nail display means.

2. In combination, a number of containers for holding nail coloring material, and a tray comprising, a body portion, said body portion having a cavity adapted to hold said nail coloring containers, moon shaped finger nail display simulations located adjacent the said cavity, a slotted portion interposed between the said nail display simulations and the said cavity, and a card removably retained in the said slotted portion, the said card bearing on its exposed surface indicia designating the shades of nail coloring material contained in adjacent containers.

3. In combination, a number of containers for holding nail coloring material, and a tray comprising, a body portion, said body portion having a cavity adapted to hold said nail coloring container means, moon-shaped finger nail display simulations located adjacent the said cavity, one of said display simulations being provided for each of said containers, a slotted portion interposed between the said nail display simulations and the said cavity, and a card designating the hue of said nail coloring material coated on the said nail display simulations in the respective containers adjacent thereto, the said card removably retained in the said slotted portion.

l. A tray comprising, a body portion, said body portion having a cavity adapted to hold containers, display means positioned adjacent the said cavity, and a slotted portion interposed between the said cavity and the said display means adapted to hold removably a card designating the contents within the said containers.
