pplication January 11, 1945, swarm-1573.190 a Claims. (01. sis- 11) This invention relates to a novel combined protective enclosure and support for an infants feeding bottle.
The invention has for an object to provide an enveloping covering for an infants feeding bottle in which the bottle with its food content may be carried about, and by which the bottle is protected against accidental breakage, while at the same time being substantially insulated against the effects of heat and cold, so that a proper temperature and condition of the food content may be assured over a reasonable period Of time; said covering being also constructed in such novel manner that, When opened to give access to the bottle carried therein for administration to the infant to be fed therefrom, parts of the covering may be positioned and adjusted to support the bottle in an inclined position, so as to assure flow of the food content thereof to the feeding nipple with which the bottle is equipped.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combined enclosure and support for an infants feeding bottle which assures sanitary protection thereof when carried about, and which includes a detachable supplementary protective cap for the nipple of the bottle, whereby to assure cleanliness of the same until use thereof is desired.
Other objects of the invention, not at this time more particularly enumerated, will be understood from the following detailed description of the same. i
An illustrated embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. l is a front elevational view of the novel combined enclosure and support for an infants feeding bottle as arranged to completely enclose and protect the same when not in use for feeding; and Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view, taken on line 2-2 in Fig. 1, with the enclosed bottle and its nipple shown in elevation.
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view, on e, somewhat reduced scale, showing the enclosure as preliminarily opened to give access to the nipple end or the bottle carried thereingFig. 4 is a similar view with open portions of the enclosure parts folded upon themselves and disposed to support the bottle in an inclined feeding position; Fig. 5 is a side elevational view with th enclosure parts disposed as arranged in Fig. 4; and Fig. 6 is a similar side elevational view with opened enclosure parts arranged to support the bottle in a more steeply inclined feeding position.
Similar characters of reference are employed in the above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawingsthe referencecharacter lo indicates-ta bottom member made of a rigid or substantially rigid -material; such e. g, as a circular wooden disc oi suitable thickness and diameter, and preferably of a. diameter somewhatin excess of the diameter pi a-feeding bottle B to be enveloped Icy-the enclosure. i
Suitably secured by itsbottom marginal per tions H to the periphery of said bottom member W is a lower cover section C. I Said cover section C comprises. superposed inner and outer plies l2 and H of flexible and preferably moisture-proof or. moisture resistant sheet material, such-e. g. as a rubberized textile rfabric. Between the. plies l2 and I3 is inserted; an inner filling of'padding and insulating material 14, such ;e. -g.-as sheet asbestos or equivalent material. The cover body structure elements'thus provided and related are suitably secured together, as by stitching, or b any other suitable joining means.
Thecover section 0, as thus securedto the bottom member I0, extends upwardly therefrom; and is of upwardly open cylindrical form," with-the respective vertical marginal portions ['5 and 16 thereof lapped one over the other. The extreme height of said lower cover section C is so dimensioned as to terminate somewhat short of the nipple end of a 'bottle B, when the latter is-deposited within said cover section. Preferably the top marginal edges of said 'cover section C are inclined or diagonally extended from the medial portion of the body thereof downwardly to the edges of the opposite vertical marginal portions I5 and I6 respectively, whereby to accessibly ex pose the nipple end of a bottle .3 deposited Within thecover section. The upper parts 'of said lapped vertical marginal portions l5 and [6 are releasably secured in'closed together relation b3 661)- arable snap fastener means IT, or other suitable fastener means, which, when separated, permits parting of said upper portions of the cover section 0, whereby to facilitate. insertion of a bottle B therein, or its removal therefrom;
Secured by stitching l8, or by any other suitable attaching or anchoring means, to the lower cover section C, at a point spaced substantially upward from the bottom and of'the latter and diametricallyopposite its lapped verticalmarginal portions l5-|6,- is the lower" end :portion of an upper cover section C. Said upper-cover section C, like the lower cover section C, icomprises superposed inner and outer plies l9 .and 20 of flexible and preferably moisture-proctor moisture resistant sheet material, such e. g. as. a rubberized textile fabric. Between said plies l9 lindrical form, when disposed inenclosingrelation to a bottle B deposited in the enclosure. Except at the limited point of attachment to the cover section C, provided by theanchoring stitching l8, the bottom margins of said'coversection C are free, and consequentl bpposite laterally extending wings w of the cover section C' may clean and sanitary condition of the nipple member N, a supplementary nipple enveloping cap 28 is provided (see Fig. 1). This cap may be made of glass or any other suitable and easily cleansible material, and is of cup-like form, preferably tapering somewhat toward its closedend, so that when its open end is telescoped over the nipple member N, "its walls will fricti'onally'engage the base of the latter, so that the cap is firmly but 'removably retained in sealed enclosing relation to said nipple member, thus protecting the latter from soiling or' other contamination.
After the bottle B has been entered in the lower cover section C, the upper cover section C is be folded around a bottle deposited within the lower cover section 0, so that the free verticalmarginal portions 22 and 23 thereof meet in lapped relation one to the other, when closing said lower cover section C These la ped marginal portions 22 and 23 canybe releasably se-' cured-in closed together relation by separable snap ffastener means 24, which, when separated, permits the wings a; to be parted and outfolded to an extended position (see Fig; 3). The extreme height of'the medial vertical portion of the upper covers'ection C isso dimensioned as to terminate somewhat above or beyond'the nipple'end of a'deposited bottleiB. Preferably the top marginal edges of the upper cover section C arelikewise inclined or diagonally extended from closed around the projecting nipple end of said bottle and the .cap 28 applied to the latter. Said cover section C is secured in such closed condition by the fastener means 24. After the upper theriiedial portion of the body thereof downwardly to the edges of the opposite vertical marginal portions 22 and 23 respectively,
Suitably secured'to the upperextremity of the medial'vertical portion ofis'aid uppercover section 0 to extend longitudinally outwardjtheree from, and so as tobe foldably related thereto, is an'articulated pad sectionfi Preferably this pad section comprises an inner pad P. of v suitable length andwidth, and an outer'pad P. which preferably taperssomewhat in width and thickness toward its free extremity: Said pads P and P are formed by external-walls 25 of flexible and preferably moisture-proof sheet material, such efg." as a rubberized textilefabric. Opposed wall portions intermediate the pads P and P are brought'together and secured; as by stitching or i "play be opened out, with the pad section connectedtherewith also opened out'in extension there- 'fronrisee Fig.3); The fastener means I1 may alsobe released, if desired, to loosen the lower cover section 0, whereupon the bottle B, containing its supply of fluid food, is inserted, bottom enddownward, into theinteriorcf the lower cover section'C, to rest on the bottom member I0,
and then said lower cover section C is secured andclosed by the fastener means H; .The nipple end of the inserted bottle projects from the open upper end of the cover section C. To assure a The external walls 25 cover section C is thus closed, the pad section is swung over the open upper end thereof, and the outer, pad P is tucked thereinto, thus together with the inner pad P serving to close the upper open end of the enclosure (see Figs. 1 and 2).
-When the feeding bottle is enveloped by the enclosureas above described, said enclosure. by reason ofits padded and heat and cold insulating characteristics, will not only protect, the bottle against, accidental breakage, when the same is carried about, but will also maintain, for a reasonable period of time, the food content of the bottle at a desired temperature. It will be obvious that the enclosure; and the supplemental nipple member; protecting cap also serves to keel the bottleandnipple member in cleaniand sanie tary condition until use therecfior infant-feed ingisdesiredi When itis desired'to use the bottle for infant feeding, the pad section 1PP; is opened out, and then the-upper cover section G"is released and also opened outlseeFig. '3), thus exposing the nipple end of the bottle B. Aftertheupper-cover section: C is opened out 'to the position shown in Fig.3, the freeend-portion thereof is down-folded behind the lower. cover section C and contained body of the bottle B enclosed withinthe latter (see Fig. 4). The pad section P-P' is then folded back beneath the back-folded portions of the cover section C, sothat, when e. g. the'bottle-is deposited upon a pillowadjacent to the head of an infant to'be fed, the bottle will be supported by the pad section and spread cover section C in a position downwardly inclined toward its nipple end. -By such disposition, when the nipple-member N is entered. in the infant's mouth, the inclined bottle B will assure constant fiow of the food content-thereof to the nipple member N (see .Fig. 5). Should it be desiredto incline the bottle at a steeper angle, such effect may be obtained by doubling back the outer pad Pf beneath the inner pad P, as shown in Fig. 6. i From the abovedescription ofour invention, it will be understood that a very'convenient enclosure for an infant's feeding bottle isafforded thereby, which not only protects the bottle and its content-when carried about prior to ieeding We are aware that variouschanges could be 'made in the above described constructions, and
