COMBINED CASING AND NAIL FILE Filed Sept. 4, 1941 IN \"EN TOR.
JACOB M WEISS ATTORNEY.
Patented Sept. 12, 1944- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE COMBINED CASING AND NAIL FILE Jacob M. Weiss, New York, N. Y.
Application September 4, 1941, Serial No. 409,507
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a neck tie holder and has for its object the use of a receptacle for a removable article in addition to its use as a tie h'older.
Another object of my invention is to provide for a combination nail file and easing which may be attached to a shirt or other wearing apparel in order to hold a neck tie in position.
A further object of my invention is to provide for a nail file that may be inserted within a casing which will be ornamental and decorative in character so that the nail file will be at ones convenience and ready for use at the same time be used as a decorative and ornamental article.
More particularly, it is an object of my invention to provide a nail file as a decorative ornament which may be used by both men and women upon an article of clothing, so that the nail file will be ready for instantaneous use.
Although nail files have been used with a sheath, heretofore, this article has not been made with attaching means. It is often misplaced and is seldom at ones convenience when required.
I have therefore combined a nail file and casing so that the file can be held within the easing and a clip or pin attached to the casing for convenient attaching to a garment so that the file will be readily accessible, wheneved required.
It is understood, of course, that instead of a nail file, other insertible articles may be employed, such as a knife blade, thin screw driver, bottle cap remover, pencil, toothpick or similar articles that are not bulky.
' For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of my invention reference is had to the drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front view of my combined nail file and tie clip.
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the combination shown in Fi 1.
Fig. 3 is a front view of the nail file that fits within the casing shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Fig. 4 is a side view of an insertible member and the upper portion of a casing showing a spring member for retaining the file within the casing, the lower portions 'of the insertible member and the casing being partly broken away.
Referring to the drawing, numeral 20 represents a hollow casing to receive nail file 2| which has a handle 22 attached to wide end of the file. The nail file 2| may be made of various shapes for different types of files, the file markings being on either one or both sides of the file 2|. Of course, instead of a file member, it is within the scope of my invention to use a knife blade, bottle cap remover, thin screw driver or other thin articles that may be inserted within a casing 20 or casing of other suitable shape to receive an insertible member. The handle 22 may be of any pleasing design to harmonize with the design of the casing.
The outline of casing 20 is made substantially the outline of the shape of the nail file 2|. At the back of casing 20 there is attached by any suitable means, a spring clip 23 so that casing 20 and the insertible member within the casing may be attached to an article of clothing. When used as a tie clip the spring member and casing will hold a neck tie in position.
Referring to Fig. 4, numeral 32 represents a casing having at the upper portion a projection 33 formed from the same material as casing 32, projection 33 having a slight hollow 34 to coact with a nub 35 at the back of the insertible member 36 for retaining said member in position within casing 32.
Although my article is primarily designed as a tie holder for men, it may also be used by women for attachment to the portion of an article of clothing, such as a pocket for use as an ornament, as ornamental clips at the neckline or upon the lapel or belt of the garment.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications will be made in the various details of construction without departing from the general spirit of the combination of the nail file and the casing in the form of pin or clip, as set forth in the appended claim.
I claim:
In a combined casing and nail file, a tapered hollow member open at the wider end and closed at the opposite end, a tapered nail file member having a handle at its wider end, said nail file member formed to fit within said hollow member with its handle extending beyond the opening of said hollow member, a knub projecting from the back of said handle, a flexible projecting piece extending beyond said hollow member, said projecting piece having a small hollow to receive said projecting knub.
